Knicks · Amar'e and maybe Tyson to work with Hakeem (page 2)
nixluva wrote:gunsnewing wrote:This goes back to Woodson challenging his stars to get better in the offseason which some people scuffed atI don't think anyone scoffed at Woodson wanting to have players get better. Just for your info, just about every coach has exit interviews where they tell players to work on their game over the summer to improve in various ways. The question is will the players actually do it which is up to the player and not the coach.
I do like Woodson's approach this off season. He's following up on his words and is actually engaging the players along with his staff. Everyone on the team seems to have the right spirit and wants to improve individually and as a team. That's a VERY positive development. IMO this team has he most potential to improve of all the teams in the East. If Lin, Melo, STAT and Tyson come back with more game, better fitness and more chemistry, that will go a long way to helping this team make huge improvements.
Let's be honest, the only real issue this team had at the end with Woody was offensive. This team played well on D. The issues they have on Offense are fixable and it appears that Woody is very intent on installing his offensive philosophy and his mental will on the team. That is a winning approach IMO. Woody wants the team to be an extension of his mentality on the court and he's starting early. It will be a MAJOR coup if STAT and Tyson can add a bit more bigman skill to their games. Jorts too! I saw a little something there with Jorts on a few post moves he made. It's the one area that Miami is weak.
MSG media coverage is good. They working the propoganda machine and we eating it.
The TMZ coverage of them leaving the restaurant was priceless. Melo rolling up like a rockstar and Lin shell shocked was great.
Im going to guess with Hakeem coming to NY MSG is paying the man a boat load as he usually does this at home in Houstan. We don't really know how many days he is doing and how effective it is unless its backed up with support. I would imagine the assitant coach's will be involved and they will record in great detail to work with them further. Tyson will be coming off his Olympic experience with Melo but it would be great if he was able to join in the fun.
Amare gets too many shots blocked now and the ball stripped in trafic. His handle for a forward is not that great given his touch's.
The power of fundamentals can prolong a career greatly. Hakeem got some good years after his freak like abilty left him and our very own Patrick Ewing got at least 5 years from effective footwork and technique. Amare still relies too much on his athletic gifts and they will be leaving him very soon.
Hey, don't forget Jerome Jordan!

Because all the greats try to improve their game. Ask MJ, Hakeem, Ewing, Shaq, Barkley, Karl Malone, Kobe, Kidd, Nowitzki, Lebron, etc....

Amare for how many years now relied on athletic ability to score in the post...He excelled in one type of offense, the pick and roll...He can't count on playing with MDA forever...MJ, Magic, Bird, Isiah, were all great offensive players in their own right, but you always heard of how hard they worked to add to their games in the offseason...Magic was a horrible three point shooter early is his career, he became very proficient at it...Oakley was a horrid outside shooter and he too worked at it...If you want to be great and win rings, you work on your game....
I was amazed when I heard Amare said no coach ever asked him to work on his low post game after his exit interview...If you have ability and athletic skill like Amare, you can't really be content just playing one way....

stop it. If he was such a great team guy he'd work on his damn defense, the main criticism against his game for years. How bout he improve that, because thats whats needed on the team for defense to actually work.

I'm sure Stockton and Malone being on the dream team also contributed to their Hall of Fame considerations.

Even Shaq and Dwight Howard worked on their post games in the offseason to improve their overall games.

Malone developed a back to the basket games years after his rookie season. Definitely didn't just pick and roll his way with Stockton to the Hall of Fame.
If Amare is hurt or his back is shot... to bad.
If he's healthy he is the best scorer on this roster and should be the first option.
fishmike wrote:and Im sure Amare's done nothing to work on his game since his rookie year. From the article:
Stoudemire has never been a consistent back-to-the-basket threat -- he has mostly scored off drives, midrange jumpshots and pick-and-rolls -- but if he can combine his intensity and aggressiveness with some new moves from Olajuwon, he could be a more complete threat.
Can't hurt to add new wrinkles right? Might even prolong his career having new moves.
ChuckBuck wrote:Can't hurt to add new wrinkles right? Might even prolong his career having new moves.of course not! Amare is a 25ppg scorer with a 53% FG average. He's coming off a bad year, but he's got the playoff wins and all star games to go with being one of the NBA's best frontcourt scorers for the last 10 years.
Instead of say, dogging it and quiting on the coach and the team because that hasnt been how he's scored in the past he's working to change his game and fit in here.

I hope he can make that psychological leap next year and realize what is needed from him going forward.
Ahhhh maybe .... because before that he was killin it on defense? Talk about quitting!!! Oh so sad - I don't have a PG who can run a pick and roll so now I plain suck - let me punch something - so pathetic. Uh oh what was that? Another turnover? the 8th in the quarter? It's time to let my shot get blocked by the ball boy. Hey look at how fast I can get out of the way of that guard when he drives - see? He can't even catch me because I'm hiding.

Even the great LeBron James added to his game..I'm one of Amare biggest supporters here and want to see him finish his career here...He is no where close to Melo when it comes to scoring ability...Amare is a career 21.6 pts per game scorer...Everyone can improve when they don't have a ring...

This is not 2010, this isn't Phoenix, and Steve Nash isn't walking through that door(probably). Just like D Wade deferred to Lebron in being the Alpha male of his team, Amare has to swallow his pride and do whatever it takes to help the Knicks win. It's Melo's team now better or worse. If that means Amare has to take lessons from one of the great post players in Hakeem Olajuwon so be it. Dwight, Kobe, and Lebron trained under Hakeem and each bettered their games immensely. Lebron just won a chip using this newly found post game. Who wouldn't want to add this weapon to their game?
P.S. - Stop making every thread about Melo, it's about Amare and Tyson learning new post moves from Hakeem Olajuwon. The Melo hate gets tiring for everyone.
