Knicks · The Steve Nash thread (we probably need one now) Stein: Toronto and New York Nash's top two choices, no order (page 1)

crzymdups @ 7/1/2012 2:47 PM
if glen grunwald is able to freaking add Steve Nash and Tyson Chandler for the corpse of Chauncey Billups and the artist formerly known as Landry Fields, I think they have to name a new wing of the hall of fame after him.

it might hurt Lin... but really, Nash is like the best team dude in sports. If anything, it's the best possible thing that could happen to Lin. They split time at the point and probably share the court at times and Lin gets his phd in point guardology.

i'd be all for Nash for Fields. I just can't fathom why the Suns would do it or it being remotely real. BUT if it is... you have to do it. you give Nash Melo on one wing and Amar'e on the other and he will figure it out. And he'll show Lin how to figure it out to. I'm 189% on board if it can possibly happen. i just don't believe it can...

Marc Stein ‏@ESPNSteinLine

In ESPN sitdown Nash said he's eager to meet Mavs if they miss out on D-Will. But sources say TOR & NYK are his top two (no order) for now

I agree. It's still unlikely (or maybe just hard to believe) but if Grunwald makes this happen he's GM of the year.
CrushAlot @ 7/1/2012 2:53 PM
Grunwald has been brilliant. His draft this year has been so underrated by some. The Knicks had no roster space and did not want to commit money this year to a guy that wouldn't contribute. The guy just finds loopholes and free agents that fit.
IrishKnickFan @ 7/1/2012 3:00 PM
despite what some some we have to go for it now. We dont have a huge window maybe 2-3 years max. Melo is still in his prime but amare and tyson have a few good years barrinf injuries, If we are able to pull off a sign and trade then the money will be hihger to offer nash. Nash knows even though tornto can offer him more they are still a bad team. He obviously likes NYC since he lives here and knows here and the heat are the best places to possibly win. His only fear seem to be that we will use him as a trading chip for a guy like chris paul but at this point we need to stick with what we have and move forward
yellowboy90 @ 7/1/2012 3:04 PM
Wouldn't it be better for the Knicks to find a third team to take TD's contract to help The suns save more money? Theoretically, even if they don't like Landry they could find someone to take him and keep TD for a year then let him go and save even more money.
AnubisADL @ 7/1/2012 3:04 PM
Nash isn't stupid enough to turn down 3 years and 36 million from Toronto.

Yeah I think he has to take that. However, it has been reported that Toronto may not have made that offer.

well if he wnats to win that would be one reason. also if we were able to pull of a sign a trade we can off like 8-9 million maybe plus the endorsements taht he wont get in tornoto

If the difference is 12M/year against 5-6M/year then he has to take the Tor offer. But people are saying Knicks can make Nash's salary 10M/yr with a sign and trade. I think Nash would sign here for that money and a chance to compete for a title in NY.

Is it really a big deal turning down 2 mill to go to a winning team?

Thats what they say even 8 million he would have to think about. I know he is from canada but he lives in new york and toronto will be lucky to sneak into the playoffs the next 3 years

Side note. If the Knicks can do that for Nash couldn't they do the same for Dragic or Lowery? I might would even do that for Ersan if the knicks would still have there mini MLE and go get Felton

AnubisADL @ 7/1/2012 3:18 PM
Knicks would be pretty stupid to sign Nash at this point. The guy cant guard anyone.

If Atlanta can get by with Teague at PG I think we can get by with Lin.

Knicks just need to fill out the SG and bench roles.

Yes. Option will still be available if Nash isn't interested. But I think Nash is their top priority so they're trying to use sign and trade on him.

smackeddog @ 7/1/2012 3:21 PM
Berman said that the $12mil per year Toronto offer is not true. The most we could offer via a s&t that doesn't include shump is $6mil per year (TD, gadzuric and jerome Jordan + $3mil- maybe sweeten it with the overseas draft picks). Guess it comes down to whether suns would do him a favour and whether he's really ready to give up on competing and take the money (maybe there's $2-4 mil per year difference). It's very unlikely we get him, but a s&t means we'd still have the mmle.

I don't know, signing a starting SG makes more sense for us than getting Nash. It would be great to get him but it's not the end of the world- a backcourt of Lin and Nash would be a defensive disaster.

I get that but I'm saying why not focus on getting a younger PG with Potential? I understand that Nash is the proven commodity but...

Because Nash still played at an MVP level last year and we need to win now with this roster. Plus, Lin is easily as good as Dragic. Why not have one of the great PGs tutor an up and coming star on how to be great?

Because Lin is already a young Point Guard with potential?

as long as nash doesnt go a place like miami i will get over it. even though getting nash would make us much better we can still get by getting felton and a decent sg

We don't want to get by. We want to get by Miami and into the finals. If Lin was a lock to be in Linsanity mode for a full season we wouldn't need Nash. But Lin is still a largely unknown commodity.

Lin is our younger pg with potential. If we could aquire Nash this way then we could use the Mle on a starting sg. Then we would have
pg: nash, lin
Sg: insert free agent here, shump jr
sf:melo, novak
Pf: amare, novak, jort
C: tyson
