If Grunwald can get Nash and Camby then I will give him the ultimate praise.
Aldridge reporting that the Raps would have a position for Nash after his playing career as part of an incentive to sign there.
This is not written on his Twitter and neither is the Iannazone Camby stuff.

Give a multi millionaire a job after retirement as an incentive? What are we in the 1980's again?

Aldridge is on nba tv saying this. Ianzonne's article is on the front page of uk.

Here is the Iannazonne stuff.
Besides meeting with Nash, the Knicks put their contingency plans in place, reaching out to the representatives of other free agents, including Jason Kidd and former Knick Raymond Felton. The Knicks also expressed interest in small forward Rashard Lewis (waived by New Orleans on Saturday), Celtics power forward Brandon Bass and onetime Knick Marcus Camby.

Nash is more of a final piece them main guy to build around now. This wont improve the team on the floor for more then 2 years

If we win a Title what does it matter??? Guys like Nash and Stockton can play forever! They have lean bodies and play under control. As long as we limit Nash's minutes he can play 3 yrs if he wants. We are turning into a half court team anyway so Nash won't have to go as hard as he used to.
Let's just hope he says yes!
Aldridge picking up the Nash stuff with the only reasonable way I can see it happening: if Shumpert is included. In which case I say NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Numerous reports Sunday said the Raptors offered Nash a three-year, $36 million deal, and also indicated they’d be willing to give Nash a front office position with the franchise when he’s done playing. The Knicks can only offer Nash the mini mid-level exception starting at $3.09 million, and could only create additional room if they worked out a sign-and-trade deal with Phoenix for Nash. The one player that would make sense in such a scenario is second-year guard Iman Shumpert, whom Phoenix almost took in the first round of the 2011 Draft before selecting Kansas forward Markieff Morris

Nash is a marketing monster. I'm sure Dolan would do that deal. A back-court of Nash and Lin would probably be the most profitable one in the league. And it definitely makes us better next year since Shumpert's out most of next season, and his performance upon return is uncertain.

I would like to go on record as I like Shumpert a lot. Under any other circumstances I say keep him. But if you can trade him, Lando, Douglas for Nash, then turn around and sign Courtney Lee/OJ Mayo with some other spare parts to strengthen the bench I would look hard at it. Even though I will fully admit I am not sure how to make a Nashlin/LiNash back court work...

I don't think we need more .400 shooters. With Nash and Lin on the team, I'd love to have some efficient scorers who will consistently knock down the shots our PGs create for them. I don't think we'd have room to pay Mayo more than the vet min anyway. If he were willing to come for the vet min, I'd take him.

Agree--- those two might fit our team better than any other two free agents---- although I also love Beasley

How is that legal to offer a front office job after?
And what would stop the Knicks from offering him a job that pays him $40M a year for one year after he retires?

For us it makes sense of course but for Toronto I dont get it. They might make the playoffs I guess

People talk about teams doing this often but I'm not aware of it ever happening. It sounds so simple to us fans but there must be reasons why it doesn't happen.

Have to agree. Shumpert's knee injury is what puts me on board with this kind of a deal. A Nash/Lin back court could be effective if Lin becomes a better shooter, off the dribble in particular. Nash is only averaging under 32 minutes a game so there would be time for Lin to play the point. Not to mention get some pointers from Nash.
The best chance we have of seeing Lin put up the close to the same numbers he had during the streak IMO would be with Nash running the point and setting up Lin and Lin filling in for Nash and dishing out assists in a new and improved offense.
Shumpert was having cramps and soreness in this knee even before the ACL tear, right?
Bonn1997 wrote:Shumpert was having cramps and soreness in this knee even before the ACL tear, right?
Yep. I wonder if he was overtraining before the season started.

I've liked Lee for a while he's a big guard who can defend and is a very good shooter. However I just realized he is restricted. So he moves down to #3. I'd like to see Mayo here for the MLE, I've really like him for a long time. Another option who I feel is a huge sleeper/Bargain is Dantay Jones. Big physical guard who can defend anyone and shoot. Probably a Vet min. candidate. Keep Novak for the LLE and let Smith walk. This leaves us here:
Chandler/Jordan
Amare/Harrelson
Carmelo/Novak
Mayo/Jones
Lin/Nash/Price
5 spots to fill with the Vet min. players. Sign AJ Price or Johnny Flynn as a 3rd PG. Sign Reggie Evans and a guy like Ian Mahinimi (he backed up Chandler in Dallas) for the Min. Use the last 2 spots on Summer league guys.
Chandler
Amare
Carmelo
Mayo
Lin or Nash(I still don't see this working)
Lin or Nash(I still don't see this working), Jones, Novak, Harrelson, Evans, Price, Mahinimi.
While this is a drastic overhaul, if we are trading for Nash, that is what we are doing anyway. Onto something more realistic that I would actually like to see...
Sign Dantay Jones, LLE. Sign Derek Fisher to the Vet Min. Let JR Smith Go. Keep Novak. Keep Jefferies. I do not know the ramifications of the MLE in regards to salary structure, but if the MLE is 5 got hard after Mayo. Sign Ian Mahinimi to the min.
Chandler/Mahinimi/Jordan
Amare/Jefferies/Harrelson
Carmelo/Fields/Novak
Mayo/Jones
Lin/Fisher/Douglas
1 spot for a guy off the summer league.
I hate that Shump is injured. I feel like it's turned him from a stud into a trade chip in a lot of people's minds here.
