I'm with you. And, unless this is a sign and trade, we're using the MLE on him.

And 6assists in 20 something minutes!

That is not the important stat. He averaged 5.5 apg last season.
I could care less if averaged 3.2 pts, as long as those assists are 5 or more.

Its terrible JASON KIDD IS 39 let that sink in. We gave him 3 years he will be 42 when his deal ends. Jersey sales will be good though

What does it matter that we gave him a 3-year deal? We are clearly on a 3-year plan with this. Won't be under the cap before 3 years is up so it has no effect on future flexibility. In 3 years this team will likely do a slight rebuild around Melo, Lin, and Shumpert.

He does have an effect on future flexibility. If we go over $74M, and right now before anyone has actually been signed we're only about $14M away from that number, then we only have the $3M mini-MLE to work with. No full MLE and no LLE.

Uptown wrote:Bibby was okay, lets no overstate things. Regardless of the assist dip for Kidd last season(6) he can still run an offense way better than Bibby did or ever could. This signing will increase Chandler and Stat's offensive production regardless of how much work they do in the off season. We complained all last season about not having legit pg's, especially not having a back-up when Lin went down. Now we have 2, and one of the best back-up pg's in the league.
also bibby was never nowhere near the player kidd was. I know kidd is old but he will be a backup which will keep him fresh. Also kidd is a better defender than people give him credit for

So you're saying the knicks shouldn't have used the lle kr mle at all then?

No, I'm saying we need to use them on the right players and I don't think Kidd is the right player.

Felton would cos problems it would be like Sanchez/Tebow. Media would destroy Lin after 1 bad game and write about why Felton should start

Think of it this way holfresh. If Jason Kidd is good for 15-17 quality minutes (formerly owned by Mike Bibby and the earthly remains of Baron Davis) the $3M annually could be well worth it.

Just 15 quality minutes.

im not happy with this signing...hes old and slow even though hes smart as hell...id rather have felton...hopefully this is a sign and TRADE to dallas so we can save money to get other players
crzymdups @ 7/5/2012 5:35 PM
Kidd has value as a ballmover not ballstopper. He's a team guy. I think the biggest impact this will have is on the Lin/Melo relationship. A lot of us saw some tension between Melo and Lin last year. Kidd will defuse that and make Melo put team and winning first and still set him up enough to get his. Kidd is basically a coach on the floor at this point. It's not a sexy move, but I think it is a good move.

Starting line up opening night will be:

Lin
Kidd
Melo
Amar'e
Tyson

bench: JR, Novak, Jorts, Jeffries?, Shawne Williams?, (SHUMP)

It'd be nice if we could convince Dallas to do a sign and trade and still keep the $3M MLE to make a run at Camby.

This is an improvement of the team. Allows the pieces that are already here to mix better and that is huge.

Will feel a lot better once Lin is matched, JR is signed, Novak is signed and we hear Shump is rehabbing and getting better.

I wasn't really on board with Felton either. There has been no mention of OJ Mayo since Memphis declined to give him the qualifying offer; I want to know what's going on with him and if we have a shot.

We are in the mix, along with quite a few other teams.

Correct

I like Baron but JKidd 39 is more durable/healthier and fit than Bibby + baron together Anytime of day

Plus his D' isnt what it once was but he plays D', you're not getting from Count Baron and Bibby

J.Lin/JKidd - (Baron, Bibby) = Improvement /assists

Good short term stop gap

Mavs anouncer on espn radio talking about kidd now. Says he is perfect for 20mins a game. Says he is so smart, great atpassing lane and defending the post. Most important of all the ability to see the whole court is still there. Raymond Felton sees amare & the pick n roll only

Which is why I don't understand why some don't like this signing. It will be a perfect signing if it is in fact a sign and trade.

I love u young guys on this board respectively

But whole NBA is young now, nice.

IT didnt do Durant/Westbrook Thunder any good though they got to finals & will benefit soon from the experiences though Russell isnt a PG.

All in all there aren't too many GREAT PGs in this league.

We got good good players, Point-forwards such as LBJ and Durant.

The old guys such as Nash and T.Parker stay in the mix cause the young PGs hasnt learned it all yet.

So there is a place for the JKidd for the Kidd haters, he's a Knick & be happy all!
S.Nash better ? yep. R.Felton better ? he is nice but isnt better than J.Kidd

It's definitely a move of desperation but I still think he'll help the team next year. Are big 3 are all below average passers. I think we'll see Lin and Kidd on the floor together with them often. Both move the ball well and would help compensate for our big 3's lack of passing.
GustavBahler @ 7/5/2012 5:42 PM
Another thing to factor in is that it was a strike shortened season. This upcoming season Kidd will have more time to recover between games, and I wouldn't be surprised if Kidd has a more productive season overall than last year.

I loved felton when he played here a couple years back but he thrived in MDA system and hasnt really thrived anywhere else also his weight gain concerns me. I know Kidd is older but we are talking about one of the best pg's in the last 20 years or so who can do well as abackup i feel even at his age.
