The Magic, Nets and Cavaliers are near completion on a trade centered around Dwight Howard, according to sources that spoke with RealGM's Jarrod Rudolph.

The currently proposed deal will include 11 players, cash and multiple draft picks.

Orlando plans to talk to other teams before signing off on the trade of Howard to Brooklyn, according to sources.

Cleveland will help facilitate the trade by taking Kris Humphries in a sign-and-trade while receiving additional compensation.

The Magic will receive Brook Lopez via sign-and-trade, along with multiple first round picks.

Wow. I didn't think the Nets could pull this off. The Cavs were a bit of a wild card as well. If this goes through at least the Knicks have a better chance at Marcus.

I thought they could pull it off... this is going to be good

I'm just glad he won't be in a Knicks uniform.

He didn't just have a herniated disc, but also had bone fragments removed from his back as well. For a guy as big as Dwight, whose game is 100% dependent on his athleticism, that's a huge worry, in my opinion. These kinds of back issues tend to be ongoing.

Any east coast team that helps the Nets get Howard, are beyond idiotic- a shame Gilberts so bitter against Lebron, he's willing to cut his nose off to spite his face. If he actually wanted the Kardashian he could sign him out right.

I wonder what the Nets can be offering. Brook Lopez, Kardashian, Gerald Green, Brooks are really their only tradeable players, though early rumors suggested they were trading Gerald Wallace to make the numbers work- but is any team really willing to take on Wallace at $40 million over 4 years to help the Nets get Howard?

The Nets only have Houston's 2013 pick (top 14 protected, so not going to happen) left, plus their own, which after a trade would likely be late, late first rounders. I just don't get how they can sweeten this deal for the Cavs, and the Magic- they don't have anything.

If you're the Magic, Is the best deal you can take for Howard really Brook Lopez signed to a max contract (which he does not deserve) and Marshon Brooks and some late first round picks? Wouldn't you rather go for the Rockets package, which would mean no real salary and lots of young players and picks, maybe even Courtney Lee too? Interesting to see what happens.

I still don't get the math on how The Nets can add Howard

Deron
JJ
Howard

contracts are about 60m right there.
Wallace another 10m.
Their picks they traded for, the Euro 3m stretch 4, Evans, Brooks, and CAP HOLD for roster spots.

I believe they are technically under the cap right now with Wallace, Deron, and JJ combining for about 50 so I'm assuming they are allowed to go over the cap in a s&t. That luxury tax is gonna be a B.... But who cares when you're mikail prokohrov?

The Russian intends to market his team in Europe and that makes the luxury tax all doable. The Yes Network is in place already and ratings will go thru the roof if nets are a top contender in the league and the global exposure is massive. Williams short stint in Turkey did not hurt raise his awareness. He went back after the season and was watching games in person. He is playing the game (off the court).

Here is what the team doc said about Dwight:
The team doctor for the Orlando Magic said he believes Dwight Howard will recover fully after undergoing back surgery on Friday, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

Dr. Craig Mintzer told the newspaper that Howard is doing well after the surgery and should recover in about four months without complications.

"He shouldn't have restrictions whatsoever. He should come back fully. There shouldn't be an issue there. Really, it's just a matter of time," Mintzer told the Sentinel.

"Fully recover" is a little vague I guess and isn't the same as saying Dwight will play at the same level as before. I think it's a risk the Nets have to take though. He has only one year left on his contract anyway.

Just when NYK is coming back to respectability we have to deal with BKN making us look bad(or worse) we make ourselves look bad to begin with..

Amazing how everyone was laughing at the Nets two weeks ago and now they are about to assemble the best team in the entire conference. The Knicks are the #2 in NY if this goes down for years to come and let's not debate it.

Howard is better than Chandler/Amare combined, Deron most would take over Melo and Joe Johnson getting feeds off of screens from DWill and kickouts from Howard will be unstoppable. Throw in the kid from Europe and I think the Heat should be very worried.

Melo better lose 15 more pounds and Amare better drop all the weight he added, because we are going to need Camby, Courtney Lee and whoever else to compete with these guys.

I try not to jump to conclusions based on media reports but I think it's fair to say at this point that Dwight definitely wants to play for the Nets and they want him. I'd assume they'll get it done - most likely as a trade this summer but otherwise when Dwight becomes an FA in a year.

I'm pretty sure that their only hope is for the trade. They'll be capped out and won't be able to add him as a FA.

True, although they could always clear cap space or do an S & T.

He wants to play with Wallace, Johnson, and more importantly, Williams. The Brooklyn Nets just happen to be the team/location these guys are residing in.

You almost have to overlook the team or city, and focus on what stars a FA will be getting to play with.

As some writers/posters have pointed out- star players have basically become their own agents at this point, and they have much more power within the system than owners do; even more so than lower tier players.

At some point, will the league have to examine, monitor, and regulate the way in which players are able to collude and manipulate things? Would we want something like this... and is it even possible/feasible to do?

smackeddog @ 7/9/2012 10:54 AM
With reports saying that maybe Phili would join in as a 4th team, I just don't get why eastern conference teams want any part of building a second super team.

I know that Gilbert is bitter over Lebron, but does he really think the Cavs won't make the playoffs for 4 years? Is getting another draft pick (they already have millions of them) really worth creating a team they can't beat?

Likewise for Phili- they could just sign Humphries outright if they want him- and what the heck is the point of getting him if they are just going to be beaten by Miami or the Nets for the next 4 years.

And Orlando realise that they're going to have to face a bitter DH 4 times a year for the next 5 years. don't they?

Whatever, but next lockout when all the owners are whining about super teams and how they can't compete, someone remind them that the small market teams actively made it possible for a few draft picks.

Dwight will be as good as new! Heck, even better! He won't only be FULLY healthy, but will stop being a douche and become an unstoppable monster!

Just sign the papers, Nets. PLEASE!

Even if he's only 80% of the player he used to be, he'd still be a huge force on defense and a threat on offense.

Is that the same Orlando team doctor who failed to spot the herniated disc and broken back fragments? I still can't believe that the Magic's medical staff missed it, and it was only when he went to LA for a second opinion that it got diagnosed.

So that confirms that the Cavs don't even want Humphries, they just want to help facilitate this trade to get back at Lebron. Pathetic.

franco12 @ 7/9/2012 12:29 PM
maybe these small market teams are trying to screw the Knicks & Dolan, or

maybe they want the Nets well over the cap so that they pay the penalty tax and that goes into the general fund?

Yeah man, Grant Hill was suppose to do big things with Tmac in his prime at Orlando.
But their medical staff is just like ours, things didn't start getting good till he joined The Suns.
Grant Hill is an amazing player that came back and fought hard for the love of the game and $ that he got for free.
It is time for him to chase his ring, so Lakers, Heat, OKC, Bulls, and of course we will get interest even if there is 0, just saying...
