Knicks · Loved getting Camby, However 'Youth' players has no chance in hell to remain on NYK here. (page 1)

DJ Loved getting Camby back home as many of the great fans on forum board here,
however you cannot give up all your young players (e.g. Harrelson steal in 2nd round)
then casually turn around & fork over 2 second round draft picks to their team

Youth in this town all of sudden has no chance! in NY big apple knickerbocker land
I don't care much for J.Jordan but Harrelson gone too ?

This is way too much for a experienced veteran/ sub-star Camby 38 yrs young, I am happy he's here.
Like Amare and Melo he wanted NY badly you have to admire that.

But I am now convinced other than G.Grunwalds actions their must be anyone person close to J.Dolan
whom is giving him bad advice on giving up youth all the time. I don't think its Allan Houston and

I am not sure about Grunwald though he may not have all the power last say on pro deals we believe,
same as Mr. Walsh.

Perhaps person in Dolan's ear same one whom wanted to ship Melo Anthony out for any cost
in under just 1 season with Knicks, at time of trade. I certainly pray its not Zeke Isiah 'meddling' Thomas.

Seems like a regular Knickerbocker trend. I'm sad to see Jorts Harrelson go whom is a good developing bkup PF and
Knicks will have scraps left to sign anyone useful for that role.

Furthermore Miami Heat & Nets was gonna offer crap to get Camby & I'm sure we all knew Rockets had no use for Heat offer
and it just left the depleted Nets roster.

Simply if draft picks were going Harrelson should not have been in the deal & for salary needs if he needed to be included we should have least kept at least 1 or both
of 2nd round future picks. Pretty soon we wont have any 2nd rounders like we fork over them 1st rounders.

DJ don't like it ! Its a younger NBA since 2007.

What the devil is going on here ? ? ? trend with Knicks and let other teams dictate they'll get what they want from Knicks (e.g now Rockets, Nuggets).
We are better and 1 of top team in east but we still have NO SG and a speculative bench now (offensively)..
With only JR Smith as legit SG their is trouble brewing. I like Toney D off court but won't miss him & his fresh new start will help him.

Cannot blame this one on Donnie walsh (exiled) or MDA (gone) actions!

Understand the sentiment. Always tough losing guys you drafted, even in the second round. However, looking at the bigger picture, Knicks have a three year window with Tyson, Melo & Amare. Their cap space will be limited during that time. They are bringing in experienced role players/known quantities to fill in the gaps instead of taking a risk on seeing if a young inexpensive role guy can pan out or not. When you have limited salary space, this makes sense.

Not to worry, Shump and Lin are both young and will most likely be back. You may also see some of the remaining roster spots go to young guys at min salaries.

Had to sign Camby.

We'll have to get youthier a few years from now.

The Heat were offering Norris Cole,Joel Anthony and Phillys First Round pick "which has a small chance of being a lottery pick" wasnt really crap and I bet most teams would rather have that deal

I understand the concern as well, but i like the fact that this team isn't afraid to go all-in. This is the 3-year plan, and they are trying to win with this group. Nice thing is we still have young talent in Lin and Shumpert to help ease the transition into life after this 3-year plan. If they draft well next year and add a quality player for the future in the first round, this team will still have a very bright future. 3 years from now, i see Melo and Chandler resigning, the team possibly letting Stoudemire walk, and Lin and Shumpert being the foundation as well, with Lin being an all-star and Shumpert an all-nba defensive player. I think the future is still bright, but at the same time, the commitment to this core group needed to be now.

In my opinion, Youth means nothing if they won't make much of an impact. If we would have traded Shump for Camby then I would have had a big problem. Trading JJ and Jorts for Camby I have no problems with at all. It was obvious JJ would be nothing more than a scrub. Jorts is OK but he is nothing special and Camby can replace what he brings easy.

JR Smith is 26 its not like he is an old man

A lot of 2nd rounders don't hang around the MBA too long. And these are likely late seconds so I don't consider it a loss. Harrelson was young but didn't show much of a ceiling. At best average shooter with no post game, limited athleticism. Plus he missed some easy layups. Nice defender though, but not enough for me to really care that he's gone. Jerome Jordan is a major project that might not be in the league much longer. Camby is still very solid so I consider it a good move.

I seriously can't believe some people are crying over Jorts and some second round picks.

Jorts was never going to amount to anything here and probably will be out of the NBA within the next few years. Out roster can't handle the risk of second rounders at this point, we need talent who can contribute and add depth. For the next 2-3 years we are in win now mode plus we still have whatever first round picks we have not traded.

Get a grip - this was a good move for the franchise.

Jorts was a nice garbage man and fun to cheer for, but let's not discount how good a player Camby is at the center spot. We esstentially got a player that is right on par with chandler and addressed two of our biggest needs: shootblocking/rebounding.

Camby was grabbing 9rbs and blocking 1.4 a game last year
Chandler 9.9 and 1.4blks

This is a big pickup if he stays healthy.

This is not the knicks adding andersoneisleyspoon this is Kidd & Camby we are talking about. They fit like a glove. And we traded nothing but 2nd rounders and undrafted guys. Cant go wrong. If the last 2yrs taught us anything is that you can't rely on young "studs" like TD, Jorts & JJ3 in the playoffs. You need experienced depth to compete in case of injury

Morri is a douch, the GM in Houston.

He gets a thrill out of gaining leverage from the bully team.

I am sure Walsh tried his best to unload JJ's contract another way, but no one bited.

This is what I mean between the Lakers franchise vs others, we are extremely hated.

the youth and future is in the backcourt. Hopefully Lin/Shump becomes a nice duo over the years. They have potential

Hey don't forget about Big Papa is only 21 still!!! He'll probably be a Knick in 2013.

I dont care about youth as much as I care about assets, which we practically lost all in one move. Im into the Camby wagon, so no need to convince me on how nice this deal is. Im excited about having him back and about the defense we can get. I just hope we can keep finding unorthodox ways to get solid talent to the team as we have recently (Lin, Novak, Smith).

Right now all I care for is to sign a decent SG starter so we can keep J.R. where his impact is greater, on the bench. Since we moved from the Foye, Lee range, I wonder who that SG could be.

oh horse shit. this is friggin absurd. Jorts looked decent. Jordan looked like crap. I guess we should held the deal up to keep Toney Douglas.

I liked Jorts but, he's no center and how many minutes was he really going to see at the 4. Jared Jeff would probably get more minutes than he so, not like he'd be developing much here anyway. I did like Jordan's potential but, it was just observed potential and who knows, he could be Randolph 2.0. If you have a chance to land Camby, you willing sacrifice such pawns as Jorts and Jordan. Plus, the huge consolation price of getting ride of DumDum Douglas.

Morey, is a douche, we did over pay, Jorts would have been an ideal 3rd string center.
Not many bigs have a soft touch like him, with good work ethic, and strong body.
He will be missed, but if he stayed, chances are another team under the cap, would give us another poison pill next summer.
Jorts can spread the floor and would have earned Amare some room, not many players that are young, can do the dirty work, and still has much potential to develop.
He is a solid 3rd string Center and would have been nice to keep, hope he does well, doesn't take it personal, and returns one day.

With our core established, we need to find rotation players that are young to compliment our vets.
Our Lebron/Wade stoppers, that would compliment

Kidd
Iman
JR Smith
Camby
Tyson Chandler
Jeffries *I am not sure if I would rather have Tolliver or Jeffries if I had to choose, because Tolliver is younger, runs well for a big, can play SF,PF, and some C* It is a big plus that he can stretch the floor and contribute and has shown he is a great role player when given 20+ minutes. I am pretty sure JJ wants a longer term deal, like 2-3 years that Reggie Evans got from the Nets.

versatile players like Anthony Tolliver, Anthony Randolph, Delonte West, Gaines, younger *Pietrus/Barnes/Bowen/Raja Bell/Tony Allen/Prince* and etc.
We need the YOUNGER versions of those type of players, we have enough vets already, we need young legs and need to find the new models of those type of players.

we have our first round pick next year and the Greeks kids coming over to backfill spots 10-15. What other assets do you need when you have Shump coming back?

This time next year these guys are under contract:

Tyson, Amare, Melo, Shump, Lin. Camby, Kidd, Novak, BirdRights to JR, 1st Round pick. That's 10. $3M cash and mini-MLE will be available 1 year from now.

Thats my main worry and the reason I would've loved to keep a few of the assets we traded for Camby. Considering we are building such a strong team, Im worried about the SG spot with Shump out for long. I think it is for the team's best interest that J.R. stays on the bench and provides the strong energy boost when he comes in.

For that to happen we would need a cappable guy with good shooting tough to start games at SG. Since I wasn't expecting a 5mm per year contract for Camby, I thought a combination of Douglas and Jorts would've gotten Camby and a combination of Gadz and Jordan either Kidd or the SG.

But thats water under the bridge. I think once we sign/acquire a SG to start I will feel better. But This Camby deal did cut us a little flexibility in filling out the team NOW.

This is what seems to be overlooked by many Knick Fans. This team is already pretty much SET. Most of what we'll be doing is tweaking around the margins. We're not looking to redo the core right now. Despite what it looked like last year against the Heat, this team isn't really that far off from contention. We had to upgrade the overall talent, capability and experience of the roster and so far Glen has been doing that. We still have the assets Martin mentioned above so this team will be just fine. PEOPLE STOP THINKING ABOUT REBUILDING WITH YOUTH! That's not where this team is. This is a right now team and the moves make sense in that reality.
