Wow, racist much?

way out of line VCoung. Cut it out.

I'm sorry, and maybe I'm missing it, but I don't see what other intent that line could have. If they had picked another former Rocket than it wouldn't make any sense. As I see it, it's a sort of *wink wink* *nudge nudge* comment about their races. But, it's yours and Andrew's board and I won't bring it up again.

Lin and Yao are known to have talks about basketball.

racist, in the way I think you intended, and by strict definition (which I don't think you fully understand in this whole context), generally includes practices of racial discrimination, and ideologies of racial supremacy. None of that is present.

And by the way, MinsHeartsReezy explained why Yao and Lin would be linked - this is pretty common knowledge but perhaps not known by all. Did you also miss that before responding to my post? It was right above mine.

There is no wink wink. HARDCORE only posted a question of whether or not Yao would have passed along any advice.

If you bring calls of racism into a conversation, any conversation, you best tread very carefully and you had better be well informed; I'll not have it any other way in these forums.

Lin considers Yao as his mentor.

I'm surprised Lin's agreed to the offer...but then again it's a business...so I'm not.
The other possibility is maybe he doesn't want us to match...it's not as though he's been vocal about staying in NY. It's all speculation and we'll just have to see how it plays out.

I like Lin but I hope he realizes that once he signed this contract... he's no longer going to get a pass for essentially being a sophomore player and still learning after only playing 25 meaningful games in his career and ending the year with an injury. At least you can say Amare and Melo are proven talents and have earned the rights to their large contracts. Lin going to have to earn his paycheck and live up to the potential he's getting paid for. He better freakin play up to the 25mil + Lux tax + restrictions that may be put on the team. And Lin will hear it big time from the fans if he doesn't live up to it. LOL...I think it's safe to say he's only seen the sunny side of NY so far.

I hope he does live up to his potential, and I hope he's a Knick when he does it.

On another note if Jorts is still available in 90 days and we have an open spot...are we allowed to sign him?

Completely agree. No more sugar coating his situation. We match and he better bring it. You sign such a contract, you better be ready for the heaven and hell it will provide. Linsanity was everybody's darling because of the great and uplifting story. Not anymore. You should deliver now consistently, Lin.

...and what if we match and he doesn't live up to that exorbitant deal?

He will STILL get paid his guaranteed money, and the Knicks will look like the suckers of the century.

Just because Dolan has bilions should not mean hat everyone can play this team for suckers. Players and other teams won't try to play us like that if the Knicks refuse to tolerate such treatment. Once we get shafted by one team, the whole league will believe that they can pull the same wool over our heads for any deal on any player. It'll be reliving the Isiah Thomas regime all over again.

Also, Lin isn't thinking about how all this will affect his reputation here. That is, of course, unless he doesn't want to be here, which has already been suggested. In that case, whoever doesn't want to be here, why the F*ck would the Knicks (or the fans) want him?

The Knicks give this guy a shot at making a name for himself, and this is how he shows his gratitude. The initial offer sheet was too much, yet tolerable. This sounds like the Rockets AND Lin are trying o push the envelope.

If Lin thinks that the 3rd year+ was "too small" then the Linsanity run has obviously gone to his head and for all I care, we should let him suck on that deal in Houston, while dragging out the drama out raising holy hell about it to Stern.

I wonder if Yao Ming is advising Lin on this? Just curious...

Wow, racist much?

????
How is that racist? It's known that Yao Ming and Lin are good friends and that they speak on the phone all the time. Lin even says he asks him for advice often. These are words from Lin's mouth himself. It's a perfectly fair thing to wonder since Yao Ming played for Houston and they are good friends.

That is exactly what I meant. Lin himself admitted to considering his good friend Yao Ming as a mentor. Anyone curious about it can Google it.

Yao Ming wanted Lin to play for his team, the Sharks, in Shahghai if he didn't flourish in the NBA. I wonder if he would he (and his agent) would move in a similar fashion while negotiating with his mentor's team.

Yeah, at this point it may be better to invest in a Stairmaster and dietician and sign Raymond Felton.

I have no problem re-signing Lin. I don't begrudge him trying to get paid.

Melo could have come to the Knicks as a free agent and the Knicks wouldn't have had to give up Gallo, Wilson, Felton, etc.

But Melo wanted the full Max contract that came with re-signing with his home team and then being traded.

Stars want their money. Same as ever.

I don't begrudge Lin, I just have hard time giving him a $14 million balloon payment in his third year. I don't have a problem if these deals are like football, and the cap hit is spread evenly over three years. Anyone ever get an answer to how this deal is calculated against the cap?

For Houston to be able to make the offer it's the average of the salary so $25 / 3yr = 8.33M per year or so.

For the Knicks it's 5M in y1 / 5M in y2 / $14.9M in y3

Don't know why, but that's how it works.

And to me that's the ridiculous thing about these poison pill contracts- why is the team offering them suddenly allowed to turn around and spread the payments out more evenly if the other team doesn't match- they don't suffer the consequences of what the other team would have. This really needs to change or we're going to see this kind of cr*p every summer (seems to be Morey's only way of recruiting an actual player). It allows one terrible gm to reek havoc on multiple teams- this summer alone Morey has screwed the cap of the Knicks and the Bulls, Kahn has screwed the Blazers and the Blazers have screwed the Pacers.

Malik Rose has been railing against this on twitter, and makes the great point that the most ridiculous contracts of this offseason have been given out by the most hawkish, pro lockout owners- Blazers (Hibberts max deal), Rockets (Lin and Asik), and Twolves (Batum and Brandon Roye). Absolute jokers.

Also I wish Morey had decided he was going to over pay Lin sooner, then we could have signed and traded him for Dragic, but Morey seemed determined to lose him for nothing.

Again the Melo comparison. So now after 25 good games as a starter, Lin is a star and wants his money? Please, lets not lose sight of the situation here. I loved Linsanity as much as anyone here, but lets not fool ourselves into thinking Lin is the constant and stable star like Melo. I didn't love Melo's deal, but still this isn't exactly a similar situation. Wont go too.much into details butfor starters even if Melo could've done things differently, he was really trying to get to NY, while Lin seems to do the opposit. And please, star? If he was such a sure thing, which he isn't no matter how.much of a.fan you are, it wouldn't be an issue but the guy is getting paid for a good 25 stretch of games. Isola brought the Jerome James comparison and while I don't like Isola's comments most of the time, he has some sort of point here. Jeremy is no Jerome, but will still get a long contract because of a few good games.

"everything"? you mean currently un-signed FA point guard ray felton who was laughed out of portland for being out of shape? you mean enigma mozgov? you mean wilson chandler?

wilson and gallo are nice pieces... melo is starting in the olympics.

Ok, not everything, but damn way too much. The situation might have been different for all these players, but we were under the cap, got many pieces to put together for later for another star trade. Either way, that trade was pure stupidity.

After 25 starts and then a busted knee. Lin better prove himself to us and the rest of the players in the league that he belongs and is not on the list of one trick ponies that turned out to be scrubs. Lin is not in the same class as Melo, Stat, Tyson, Kidd, Camby,Prigioni and JR. All of them have more than 25 professional games. Lin is really a rookie like Shump. Let's see what happens this year. It should interesting.

Really?! The dude hasn't played one minute of NBA ball. Is Lin also not in the class of Adam Morrison? Maciej Lampe? Frederic Weis? Because they all have more than 25 professional games also.

I think its stupid that the CBA allows you to construct a contract that way. This whole situation is getting beyond annoying. Not really sure I'm liking how Lin is handling this, but the pressure is on. Just as great as NY was to Lin, it could be equally horrible for him if he doesn't live up to this deal. I'm not sure he's ready for that.

All of you that don't like how Lin is handling this, exactly what would you have him do diffferently? The Knicks said they would match, and you can't match something that hasn't been signed. what did he do that makes you want to blame him?

All I can say now is that Lin better be the real deal or he will hear it from the fans. And if he ain't the real deal we make him sit the second year until he is so frustrated that he would want a buy out for maybe half of the third year.

OK so then both Melo and amare should sit this year, you cool with that? Right.

Papabear Says

Melo and Amare has proved themselves through out the years. Lin has had only 30 games. How can you compare?? You can't!!

I am not comparing anything. You were talking about being the real deal and no player on our roster outside of Tyson and Shump are even close to playing at a level that justifies what we pay for them.

Papabear Says

When Amare first came to the Knicks he played almost a whole season 25 points a game. Melo single handedly took us to the playoffs. I'll tell you what! When those other players you are talking about can play 7 straight years at a high level like Amare and Melo then come talk to me about Lin Shump, and Chandler. Man Chandler needs to work on scoring and rebounding. Defense I'll give him credit.
Back in the day I had a singer like that no one would give him a break but I did and produced a hit record on him. It went to his head and we split up and I continued to produce and write hit songs and he never got another hit song.
What I am saying is that Lin is putting a strain on the team. But business is business you got to look out for yourself.

25 pts a game justifies a max contract??? What about the 35+ points he gives up on defense every night? David Lee produced 20+ a game AND he grabbed 10+ rebounds.

Melo singlehandedly took us to the playoffs???????? Without Lin and the 9 game streak your precious Melo and Amare wouldn't even have sniffed the playoffs in the weakest conference we have seen in a while. Put the kool-aid down and step away from the keyboard.

Papabear Says

Since you are sold on Lin Let's see what he does this year. I really hope he does well this will help us when we trade him for Chris Paul.

Going back to get the poison pill is a little shady...that might've been the rockets and not him, but its very strange how this went down.

Not sure if the events Berman's portraying are true, but i think Linn needs to show Wooson some respect and courtesy. He will get his payday....he could also start the season as the 3rd PG off the bench until he earns his minutes.
