If we could use 3 years 25 million on another player I would but we cant so sign him.Really wonder if we could of just done a sign and trade and got Camby,Lowry back from Houston.Could of done a trade for Kidd then still had another 3 mil to work with to sign another SG.
yeah, I think either way we would be pretty screwed. Unless we find a player in D League/waivers or get LUCKY again like we did with Lin.
Match and if he doesn't produce GREATLY he his a bad contract, because of that one year.
Would cost Dolan 3x + his 15m salary in year 3.
Although Melo can opt out and take a 1 year deal making less, unlikely, at least not for less.
Don't match and he continues to play great, all of NY would be complaining.
I have concerns that Grunweld might have orders to move Tyson Chandler in his final year for cap relief
Don't forget we have Camby here now, especially if he stays healthy and serviceable, assuming we match Lin's contract.
Unless we win a ring, in these 2 years, its a realistic possibility.
What an Assist...

Agreed. +1
A 5 year, $100 mil Amare-esque contract is a bad deal. 3 year $25 mil just means you're underpaid by Knicks' standards

It nowhere close to the bad deals we gave Melo and Amare.

I know. I'm gonna be so pissed if we can give those guys close to $200 mil but we can't give $25 mil to Lin.
Championship aspirations need to have Lin who has risk but a high talent ceiling. I like Felton but he is not a high enough talent of we do intact aspire to contend.
Is it just me or most of the posters have no sense of money value? I keep reading dumping Jeremy, Jeremy Lin is bad, ungrateful, will not perform, etc, etc. But what did you learn about Asians in Asia spending MILLIONS and MILLIONS of money to watch him, buy Knicks products featuring Lin and don't forget the jerseys he sold MORE THAN KOBE BRYANT?
Yes, there's a very likelihood he won't be a legit starter that demands 25 million dollars in 3 years, but who cares?!?!?! Whichever team acquires him, will make 25 million dollars back within a year! Do the math and see why ANYONE will get rid of him without getting another star that can command more money off the court. Is it because he's Asian? Seriously. I'm not even joking. Are you all that clueless or racists? Owners are here to make money, and Jeremy Lin is practically guaranteed that. Maybe you just think Jimmy Dolan is just that dumb, and in that case, I totally understand and will not argue more. Otherwise please lecture me about how Jeremy Lin will NOT make any money to any team, and please don't say we can get a better player to get championships. Owners like championships, but owners LOOOOOOVE money more, period. If you want to argue with me on that last statement, then I strongly suggest you get a dna test and see if your mom and dad are related.

i think every poster here wants jeremy back.
BUT:
a) it kinda seems like Lin doesn't want to come back. why else would his team work with Morey on a SECOND offer that would be more likely to deter the knicks? word is lin's team leaked the details of the first offer and also that the knicks would match it. so his team used that leverage to get a second offer.
b) in the third season, the Knicks will face the repeater tax, which essentially makes committing to Lin's $15M salary in that year a $57M investment in YEAR THREE ALONE.
We lose our best option at PG and our left with a geriatric Kidd, a fatso Felton and an unproven 35 year old rookie.
1. Most of the posters here are against having Jeremy Lin back, especially now that Houston made that ridiculous offer just to see Knicks matching it.
a) Who cares if Jeremy Lin choose to go to Houston. That's not the issue I'm talking about. I'm talking about why would Jimmy Dolan not sign him? If Jeremy Lin chooses to let Rockets make lots of money this coming season, that's his choice. It has nothing to do with Jimmy Dolan letting him go. Two completely different topics.
b) In the third season... Let's start with first 2 seasons.. 10 million for first 2 seasons. I think Jeremy Lin can triple that alone for the Knicks just on product sales. Plus with all the signed contracts, Knicks are already in the penalties in 3rd year so Lin won't make a huge difference on luxury taxes. At least not huge enough to discount the money he'll be bringing in.

a) if you don't think Dolan or Knicks management paid attention to the fact that Lin went BACK to Houston to get a better offer sheet when it seemed like the Knicks would match...
b) i think the garden front office has a little better understanding what the pros and cons financially of keeping lin are. for one thing, i believe "product sales" like jersey sales are distributed equally to teams around the league. if lin is worth $500 million, the knicks will likely sign him.

This is something I am surprised isn't getting a lot of play. The guy went back to negotiate a better deal. He may have wanted out. He may have wanted to play in Houston because his feeling got hurt. He is a smart guy and knows what that new contract would mean for the Knicks. Who am I kidding Lin is Mr. Humble. He is about the good of the game. HE sacrifices his body for the team and comes back to help the team in the playoffs. He likes to challenge himself by competing against the best on the U.S. Select team.
Let's get real. It ok that he didn't take those risks and went after the high money but I find it interesting how people say Melo held the Knicks hostage but he did not make the deal. On the other hand Lin made this deal and had a choice. Just like JR had a choice to take less money to play for your beloved but he is a knucklehead me first player so that doesn't count. Blame management all you want if they do not match but LIn deserves most of the blame.
If we don't resign Lin, I DEFINITELY won't pay to watch games online. Lin brought excitement and team play back to the Garden. It would be my saddest day as a Knicks fan. Extreme reaction - no, watching Linsanity was my best memory as a sports fan. It was magical.
We have a lot of contracts expiring when Lin's would. To say he is the reason for the tax owed is a misnomer. We could just unload Stat in year 2 or 3, very do-able.
Anyone have Knicks contact information? Seems like our best hope is to bombard the corp, if enough people care.
With Felton, kidd and Pablo.....the knicks could seriously let Lin walk.....never saw that coming....Grunwald is a beast!!!!
I think it's one if those "prove a point" things.....knicks aren't just about making money off some kid. They have money and found a point guard that is proven to play well for the knicks in the past.....
Man Grunwald is a beast
Lin's money is only questionable in year three - but if you amortize the deal over three years, its not that bad.
If he stinks in year three, he either doesn't get renewed, or he's got value as an ending contract that goes to a team with no plans to bring him back.
Fields goes, but we need to match Lin and I will be crushed if we let him walk for nothing.
We fully knew he could end up with this kind of contract, and he may very well be worth every penny.
Maybe with Woodson's system, we don't care about what kind of PG we put out there.
Maybe there is a whole season of 'toss the ball to Melo' and stand back.
That was so efficient for us last year
personally, I think the Knicks will resign Lin... the Knicks were completely effed when Baron Davis went down. They have a lot of PGs now, but two are ancient and one spends too much time at the buffet. I wouldn't be surprised if Kidd, Priwhatever, and Felton miss time next year. Also, the Knicks don't have much of note at SG, so there will likely be a lot of 2 PG rotations. I think Lin is back
A few questions: How do you know Lin went back and renegotiated the deal? Is it because ESPN told you so? Why do you care? Is it wrong every time two parties change the details to an offer?

This is silly. I go back all day if it meant an extra $5m. Why is that anti-Knick move. The kid just wants the best deal he can get.

Really? My employer gave me a 5% raise above the initial offer when they found out I had another offer. I guess we're both assholes.
