Anyway, 8.3 mil per year for Lin? I'd call that paying an A- player B money. It's definitely NOT A money. Or if you want to separate it by year, it's C money in year 1, C money in year 2, and A money in year 3.

now you're just bending the truth. sure it averages out to 8.3 a year but that's not what it is. that's what it COULD HAVE BEEN had lin not decided to renegotiate the deal and put the 14.8mm poison pill in, but that poison pill makes it tough to swallow.
out of all the people on this board you are the one who is always arguing semantics. yet now since that doesn't fit your argument, you just let semantics go out the window. convenient.

people are really concerned about the poison pill. houston's gm is smarter than the knicks, i guess. too bad.

Well I edited the post after you quoted to precisely address that issue.

Their owner is smarter. I'm not sure about the GMs.

lin's salary is $5M in years 1 and 2, which helps keep the knicks OUT OF the luxury tax. and which would help them AVOID the repeater tax that everyone is so scared of.
the thing that will put them into the repeater tax is paying old dudes like Camby and Kidd $10M a piece over the next three.
IMHO investing $20M combined on Camby and Kidd over the next 3yrs is WAY MORE RISKY than investing $25M on Lin.
This is one of the stupidest arguments or decisions i have ever seen by a sports franchise. ever. this is horrendously dumb.

Mister .470? So unbecoming of a professor of your stature. very infantile.
What schoold do you teach at? Preschool
That is a lot of Cash Money
CashMoney wrote:I'm sorry but a player getting paid $14 million for even 1 year needs to deserve and have earned that type of money. Lin isn't even close to being worth that price tag.

Amar'e is making $64M over those same three years, by the way. Felton, Kidd and Camby are making $30M combined over those same 3 years by the way.
$25M for Lin is a fine deal. He will be an utter bargain for the first and second year. And he was an utter bargain last year.
Knicks will get Lin for 4yrs $26M. Compare that to 4yr $83M for Amar'e or 4yr $83M for Melo.
Anyone who says Lin is overpaid at 4yrs $26M is INSANE.
Too much flawed logic in your post. Lin is the salary that will put them over the top kill them in luxury tax in year 3. I will cost them 60 million for that year.
Keep mentioning Melo's salary but I guarantee that any/all teams with cap room would take on Melo's contract in a NY second if they had the opportunity
Lin? Not so sure.
There's no logical flaw. Team rosters fluctuate; they are not static. If (a) Melo is as easy to move as you say he is, (b) Lin is the better buy, and (c) it's important to avoid the luxury tax, the obvious conclusion is to bring back Lin and move Melo for a shorter contract.
Also, it should be easy to move players like Camby or Kidd or Felton for a second round pick if they really need to create cap room in Year 3.
Letting Lin go NOW, when he has a VERY FAIR contract for two years is absurd. Worrying about the salary cap THREE YEARS FROM NOW is absurd.
If Lin's offer from Houston were 2yr $10M people would be screaming bloody murder if they didn't re-sign him. The poison pill is ONE YEAR of trying to figure out how to deal with the cap. ONE YEAR.
I don't know if that is accurate. This new cap is very different. I think you are significantly handicapped in the moves you can make based on how far over the cap you Arr. I. Wish coon would write an article providing the exact details to lin's situation and how resigning him effects the Knicks.

Still, Lin had success at the highest level and with a very poor surrounding cast.
Playing even POORER competition
Yeah, the Lakers and the Mavs were horrible. The Pacers suck! Good argument.
Everyone is hanging their hats in this Laker game to say Lin has arrived...The Fakers were in their 5th road game on the 8th night...I remember Kobe being asked if he heard of Linsanity and he said no...They were too busy to even know Linsaity was happening at the time...It might have even been a back to back game after playing Boston...Come on guys..

If Lin is a A player, what is LeBron??

It depends on the Sabermetrics - just ask Mr Morey since he is the GM that buys into that. And, he has done a great job with it - David Berri and Bonn must be proud.

Where is your evidence that he relies on sabermetrics more than most GMs do? You tend to be an evidence-free poster. I would like to see the evidence this time.

it is commonly known - I don't need evidence. Type Daryl Morey into Google and Voila - therein lies your evidence
Some people are hypocritical. I hated the contract we gave amare but I thought it was necessary to sign a star to climb out of the hole we were in and become relevant again. I thought the Melo trade was the "safe" trade that would land us a 2nd round exit every year but if we somehow miraculously got a guy like cp3 we would be contenders. Developing talent is fun, I love Gallo and miss him, but I also wanted to win, and star players, real star players are hard to come by. I think you pull the trigger when you have the chance and deal with the consequences. It's just a matter of determining which players are the true stars, and that's a line everyone draws at different spots. With Lin, there really is no downside for the team, and I'd think Dolan would easily profit from more linsanity, because even if he's just a solid player, he'll be very marketable.
