Knicks · Hahn saying Knicks should match Lin, acknowledges difficulties (page 2)

He didn't sign the first contract. The terms were leaked, yes? To me the interesting questions are a) who leaked them and b) why?

I still want him here, but the subterfuge is fascinating.

In the video above, Lin is playing with a sleeve on his knee. He was playing hurt already at that time.

Lin is a complete conniver and U guys are eating it up. Do U really believe Lin would of taken the Max Knick offer without testing FA, really. The guy that backstabbed the Knicks to get an extra 5 mil would of taken a lower offer. Give me a fing break. The guy is playing the media to look like a victim. Anyone with common sense can see A. Lin wants out , Which is what I believe. B. Sticking the Knicks for an extra 5 mil. If he wants more money then fine but dont act like the guy is some saint and melo is some greedy pig because they are both the same. This is all Lin

Melo is fat though...

BTW Jmpasq (how do you pronounce that)

Do you think you might taking this personally using words like "backstab"?

I'm not saying this is how it went down because none of us really know BUT it's possible that

1. Lin goes to negotiate deal with Rockets
2. Knicks say they'll match
3. Rockets gamble and dump Lowry, Dragic, Scola to get Howard and WHIFF
4. Morey adjusts contract because he needs Lin

Now let's say Morey calls Lin and says hey we really want you so I know we told you 4 years $28M (which btw comes out to $7 per) but we're offering you $25 M over 3 (which is a little bit over $8M)

If you're Lin what are you supposed to say?

"Oh but I already told James Dolan that it was 4 years and $28 with the 4th year not being guaranteed. I actually want to go back to the Knicks. Could you just offer me $21M guaranteed instead of $25M?"

This kid hasn't gotten one big payday yet and as many on this board speculate if he's not that great this is his ONE chance to get paid. I don't know if that's "backstabbing" on Lin's part or trickery on Morey's part but it makes complete sense to take the contract and think nothing of it. Especially if the Knicks already told you go ahead and get the most you can. We'll match anything.

It's somewhat clear that Dolan is taking this personally. I am a bit perplexed as to why fans are.

"Lin is too expensive" (opinion of some). However, here are some FACTS:

Some recent NY Knick Salaries:
Marbury 2008-9 $20,840,625
Eddy Curry 2008-9 $9,723,983
Tracy McGrady 2009-10 $22,483,124
Zac Randolph 2007-8 $13,333,333
Steve Francis 2006-7 $15,070,000
AND,
Carmelo "the ridiculous" (upcoming season): $20,463,024
Amare "the Toreador" (upcoming season): $19,948,799.

You're right, math geniuses. For some reason the time to draw the line in the sand is now with Jeremy Lin.

You guys kill me when y'all act like uncertainty about his game has nothing to do with deciding whether or not to match his offer.

And yet not one of those players ever had as good a month as Lin had with Linsanity.

Lin will be tradeable - Houston or Golden State would be interested in him for their market among other things.

His sample size is bigger than most players. Plenty of bench guys get big money for starting like 10 games in April. Lin started 25 games and his numbers in those games stack up with the best point guards in the sport. And that includes starts that came after D'Antoni left.

So he put up numbers for two different coaches with a wildly fluctuating cast of injured players.

But you need a bigger sample size?

and again - it's 3yr $25M. You guys are acting like it's a max deal. Michael Beasley just got 3yr $18M

There should be a pretty fair amount of uncertainty about his game. But the Knicks seemed certain enough that they were willing to match anything. You think this is more about the increased luxury tax from this 2nd deal or Dolan being pissed?

I take something different then that from the post. I'll set aside the claim (which I disagree with) that this is a stupid contract. The main issue here is that there are other players on the roster who can be moved and plenty of time to do it if the luxury tax is a huge concern.

I don't think it's a stupid contract. At basically $8M a season he'll be a little bit overpaid or a little bit underpaid over the course of the contract. It seems like that was the logic nehmiah was using.

Although only Steve Francis and McGrady were that ridiculous though McGrady was aquired as an expiring

OK, I misunderstood the part about stupid contract. Nehmiah didn't really give an argument; he just listed contracts. Perhaps I gave the benefit of the doubt.

Not sure how this is relevant here but it is the absolute truth. But, how many would trade away their whole team and trade 50 first rounders for him?

Heck! They traded Felton who WAS great - though now, he stinks.

Right,ot pne team in the ;eague could have traded half their roster for Melo! Sorry to bust your bubble but Melo is overpaid, underacheiving player who puts his own ego ahead of the team needs. Other than that he is probably one of the nost versatile offensive players ever to play. But talent means dick, if you don'y buy into what's best for the team. I was a supporter of the Melo trade, but I will never forgive a paid professional who admits he didnt put in a 100% effort irrespective of cause.
