freudian slip?

He didn't sign any original sheet. What are you talking about? You must listen to Stephen A and Mad Dog too much to actual form a real opinion. The Rockets changed the offer after the Knicks kept saying they would watch. They upped the poison pill on purpose and it also meant more guaranteed money for Jeremy. What was he to do? Not sign it? The Knicks didn't even MAKE HIM AN OFFER. They WANTED him to sign an offer sheet. He signed it. Why do people always make excuses for this piss poor organization? Now we're trying to paint Lin as the villain? LOL.

Yeah, If it comes from him, I believe it. Lin played well enough in a bunch of games in february and made enough money off of them to live very well for the rest of his life. Hats off. Looking forward to that first game against the Rockets. Go KNICKS!!

Burnt to a crisp.
Dolan's been burning this team to a crisp for a decade. Dude really sucks at cooking.
They lost my $$$ for sure.
I would have been a fan of Dolan but now it's more of the same.
Jeremy Lin averaged 18.5 points and 7.6 assists as an every-day player for 26 games last season.

Linsanity is just about over in New York.
Off the Dribble
The Knicks plan to cut ties with Jeremy Lin on Tuesday night, according to a person briefed on the decision, ending a brief, spectacular and now bittersweet love affair between the 23-year-old point guard and his adoring fan base. Lin will play next season for the Houston Rockets, who signed him to a three-year, $25.1 million offer sheet that the Knicks have elected not to match.
The Knicks are not expected to announce their decision until this evening, and there is still a chance — albeit incredibly small — that it could be reversed. But as of 4 p.m. the decision had been made and was considered final by those with knowledge of the deliberations. Indeed, the deliberations were said to be over.
The Knicks have first-refusal rights on Lin and by rule have until Tuesday at 11:59 p.m. Eastern time to either match the offer or let him walk.
The decision was ultimately financial, not emotional. The contract with Houston includes a third-year balloon payment of $14.9 million, which would have cost the Knicks another $35 million or more in luxury-tax penalties had they matched the deal. The so-called poison pill was designed to dissuade the Knicks.
The decision ends two weeks of suspense and speculation, which began when Lin became a restricted free agent on July 1. Now will come the inevitable backlash.
Lin saved the Knicks’ season in February and instantly became their most popular player in a decade, as well as a global phenomenon. Fans started at least two online petitions to keep him last weekend when it became apparent the Knicks were leaning toward letting him go. Twitter, blogs and fan forums have been filled with anguished comments for days.
The Knicks wanted to keep Lin, but his situation was complicated. Because he was a restricted free agent, the Knicks had the right to match any offer. Yet under N.B.A. cap rules, they could offer him no more than $16.13 million in a three-year deal, and a maximum of $28.75 million over five years. Only a rival team was allowed to include the third-year balloon payment.
So it was up to Lin to set his own market value, by getting an outside offer. He initially agreed with Houston on a three-year, $19.5 million deal, including a $9.3 million balloon payment in the third year. That deal was agreed to in principle but never signed.
When it became apparent that the Knicks would match, the Rockets increased the third-year salary to $14.9 million, close to the maximum allowed. The Knicks are already expected to be over the luxury-tax threshold, so Lin’s salary would have cost them tens of millions more under the league’s more punitive new system.
In recent days, two people briefed on the Knicks’ deliberations said it was unlikely the team would keep Lin. Yet both cautioned that the decision was not final and would ultimately be made by one person: James L. Dolan, the Madison Square Garden chairman.

Screw you Dolan....I'm going to wait until this becomes official but once it does, this is my last day posting on UltimateKnicks until Dolan is gone.

Bolded part refers back to the comments made by two people "in recent days." Not on the report that the decision is now made.

yea I hear ya
I'd like to get something too!
but keep in mind the knicks didnt invest anything to get Lin, he was kinda picked up off scrap-heap 2-nba team cuts
and it worked greatly for us
So its not like Knicks got him in 1st rnd draft or traded luxury or signed him for $3mil bucks
nil investment for several months aboard. Fact is Lin could been a knicks if he wanted it.
Sure some of blame msg/grunwald initial $talks at free agent start
rest of blame is Lin & his new Agent, cant escape that fact while he's being glorified as victim
Lin is just as much to blame
He cant say he dont want to leave but created premise for a 'ill' knicks org whom started him PG
to make it impossible to sign him.
Knicks treated him good & above fair and let him know he's wanted back. all for this Jeremy going to a team he doesnt want to go to.
Greed at 23 + 25 games, so so showing vs Miami Heat reg. season

i don't believe any of this until the deadline has passed and Lin has a press conference scheduled. bottomline is Dolan is involved in this decision and he is as impetuous as they come

How do you think those reports about him wanting the Knicks to match and the "I just figured they would match the new one" quotes go over? He should be beloved in the locker room....

A move like that wouldn't be surprising.
I will wait to hear the announcement from the Knicks before I believe any news on whether they matched or not.

ESPN usually likes to make it known or goofs on these matters
& I aint see a thing from them yet even if they arent the 1st to report it
So whom knows ? what Knicks got up their sleeves

Yeah, man. Why should we freak out behind every "report" that gets dropped? There are too many so-called Knicks fans who are WAY too emotional and over the top with this. I haven't seen so many butthurt reactions since the Melo trade. Real talk, some of these so-called "Knicks fans" may want to check their estrogen levels. Sheesh...

You're ignoring the fact he flew secretly to Vegas without even telling the Knicks he was there. Not even the coaching staff. If he was an unwilling participant to the renegotiation, he didn't have to sign. The Knicks could have offered him $24M over 4 years and the renegotiated contract was $25 over 3 years. There were just as many reports that suggested he wanted more money in the third year which is why he renegotiated (not to mention the opportunity for a brand spankin new contract in year 4. I think there's plenty of blame to spread around. If he was in Vegas, why not stop in on the summer league practices? Why not have a conversation with the coach he presumably wanted to play for and see how the workouts were going? That's what I would do if I WANTED to be in NY. And Woody was apparently pissed he didn't even come by. He clearly felt ok being a rocket or a knick. And as I've always maintained, Lin's been mum on whether he wanted to be in NY since before the season ended. It was always "I don't know what will happen." He didn't show the same fealty to the Knick's as the Knicks showed him by allowing him to get a bigger and fair contract offer elsewhere so we could match it. Lin KNEW the implications of the 3rd year poison pill, I doubt the ramifications went unnoticed by Lin's team. He had a choice to sign. Novak wanted to be here and he showed it...so much so he took the time to attend the hearing that decided whether he would be allowed to remain a Knick for fair compensation. That's loyalty.
And for those of you who say Melo wasn't any different loyalty wise. Guess what, Melo was a good example of what loyalty to an organization was. He never publicly acknowledged that he wanted a trade to any particular team. He gave the Nuggets all the negotiating chips and that's loyalty. Our organization gave up a lot, but the Nuggets came out well because Melo was loyal to the team he played for for 6 years before he left to start a new chapter. If the the Knicks do not sign him, it is just as fair to say that Lin and his team outmaneuvered himself out of a contract with NY...and hey, why wouldn't the Rockets oblige?
Lin made a choice to sign that contract. It was a choice he could clearly live with regardless of the outcome. I'm not going to sit here and cry and whine over someone who clearly would be just as happy as a Rocket as he would a Knick. I'm going to look forward to and concern myself with the team we DO have as of now. At 11:59 tonight, that may be a different team. I hope he is very successful wherever he ends up. I'm happy that he was able to cash in on his talent and the amazing run that was Linsanity. I honestly wish him nothing but the best and do not harbor any resentment towards him if he is allowed to remain a Rocket...because that's what he currently is unless we match by 11:59 tonight.
I hope he does stay a knick but life goes on. Lin made a choice he could live with and the Knicks will too. We'll see what the official decision is.
What I do know, I'M SO SICK OF HEARING ABOUT IT!!
