...The stretch provision would've saved them $20mm on the tax...
Yup, that $45 million figure seems to be wrong. Lin would have counted around $8 a year, right? So, assuming no trades, etc. he _might_ have cost the Knicks another $20 million or so. Let's say the Knicks win 5 more games next year with Lin and they play three extra playoff games--that's probably more than $20 million right there, not to mention the marketing impact Lin might have on the team overall.
I'll watch a few more Houston games this year but...maybe I'll check out the Nets...and, yeah, I'll check out the Knicks but this Lin business was a deal breaker for me.

That said, I think I'll end up missing Gallo/Chandler more than Lin. Always a different story when they choose to leave, and let's not mince words, he chose to leave.
Back to KNICKS news.
Yep! Time for us to put all this in the rear view mirror and keep it movin'.
He definitely chose to leave. There are a lot of heartbroken Lin fanboys who need to follow him outta here, too.
KNICKS for LIFE.

Sorry but I don't wish Lin well in Houston.
Lin didn't wish himself well, either. What kind of team does Houston have? They've stripped that roster down to barebones.
The rest of the NBA already watched the tape on Lin. He's been exposed. The Knicks knew that, which is why they decided that Lin just wasn't worth the money.
If Lin REALLY wanted to be here, then he would have NOT renegotiated and subsequently SIGNED that restructured offer sheet.
This is so nuts. More painful than Starks performance against Lin's new team. That kid gave me the most joy from watching hoops in years. The play was infectious. Now I just feel sick.

Maybe Lin just wanted to be reunited with Tony Douglas.

Oh and i see you joined the forum Feb 2012!Coincidence i think not!
So it's all good and done then. A decision has been made.
Good luck to you Jeremy, it was a great ride while it lasted.
But you know what?...No one died, the world didn't end and tomorrow will be a new day.
Go Knicks!!! But first, Go USA!! Who's excited for the Olympics?!

This is no where close to as painful as Starks' performance against the Rockets. Are you serious with that statement?

There is no coincidence. I have been watching the Knicks probably before you were in diapers. The Knicks have been unwatchable for well over a decade. I joined the forum once a player came around that allowed me to become engaged again. The Knicks were on their way to not even making the playoffs with their high priced out is shape players. Lin saved the season...it is that simple.

Is there a tomorrow?
You mean since hell has frozen over now that Dolan realized that a salary cap was meant to be a limit and not a challenge???
Nothing against Lin, but I hope he turns out to be a bust. Only way I can feel even marginally OK with this decision.

You are right...that took the painful prize.

Yeah - He sure has a perverse sense of timing.

I'm with you. In the meantime, time to start my nets blog. I'm pretty disgusted that we let an asset walk. Feel worst about that. Not even a first round pick back. No nothing.
