This post makes a good point. there is an opportunity for the new Nets to capture some attention now, but I think they need to do something quick. They either need to put together a hot streak of wins or have one of their players break out. I'd almost say its a race between them and the Knicks to be the first to do something noteworthy. Knicks is still a strong brand so it'll always be there in the picture, but the Nets have more pressure to do something quicker or fans will still look at them like they were as the NJ Nets, irrelevant. I know one thing if the Nets wanted to capture attention, they should've signed Jeremy Lin!!!

THere is a lot of space for both teams to succeed. Article this morning does tout the Nets a bit being brave to have the knicks open the season. They requested it. It could be a disaster for them and you going to have a lot of Knick fans in the building according to the article (found on the front UK page).
Its releveant to the knicks because its their season opener also. Every team the knicks play is relevant to discuss.
It am very excited to watch this first game. It will be a huge opening nite for both teams! Great way to start the season.

With all the negativity and sadness that some of you have displayed about the Knicks and Dolan on a Knicks Fan Forum it's just too much. Makes me feel very good that my parents have done such a good job of instilling positivity and love in me and taught me not to hate. It's unfortunate that some people do not get to experience that and it's very evident.

It sounds like it. I think it's pitiful to spend your time plotting against a team that you pretend to support for personal reasons or empowerment. I won't say much more about this subject here because you cannot change people's bad habits or feelings. They may have to learn the hard way and maybe pay a price to learn.

The location? The sweet memories of going out with farther or friends? The memorabilia around the house? The class of the organization and people who run it? The greatness of the players and smarts of the coaches?
Probably all of that and some more.
And what makes the team THEIR TEAM? Something that you hate? Same things.
For a lot of people there is too much already to make MY TEAM THEIR TEAM.
Not all people are so masochistic to follow one train wreck for 30 years.
They need to switch to another... maybe train wreck… but with some HOPE.
When Knicks finish at the top of the Division and the Nets finish 3rd behind the Celtics and squeak into the playoffs... we will see then.

Nop. I do not like Nets. Actually I have no feelings about them. Probably this is worth than hate.
If Knicks will stop me watching them this will be the end of watching the NBA for me alltogether.
So far they did a good job putting me close to have no filling about Knicks, and NBA ball.
But I needd a little bit more of push to snap complitely.

Management has never committed to a true rebuild so i don't know how the fan base would react. The first two years of Walsh/dantoni were very hard for me as a fan. True net fans have been through a lot more. My guess is longtime net fans are not entirely thrilled with the nets new found popularity.
