lol orlando really did get fleeced. i know they wanted cap relief but they didn't even get a stud to build around.
yeah but its not about getting a stud..
orlando got what they wanted...the young GM wants young draft picks to build a team...i get it..i dont think they made out that bad (considering their goals to shed money and get younger)
denver got better...basically traded affalo for iggy...yeah hes not a superstar but thats an upgrade
lakers got better...not only did they swap bynum for howard but they get to keep gasol!
philly got scary good...they got the 2nd best center in the leage and a decent scorer in richardson for iggy
overall i think everyone wins
I think Philly is going to get rocked trying to defend teams. I also want to see how Bynum is as a "franchise player".
i love bynum and think he's a wonderful player when he's healthy but it seems like alot of people are forgetting hes only played more than 65 games once in his 7yr career. and now philly is going to use him as their horse and the whole offense is going to go through him. i can't imagine how people would be confident in him playing alot of games given his injury history.
Cool. Everybody improving....
So who is the loser?
Iggy is an instant upgrade in Denver.
The Sixers lost Lou Williams to FA and get Richardon in return. However, I can's see Bynum signing an extension with them plus they lose Iggy and a 1st round pick. If Bynum doesn't reup they traded Iggy and a 1st rounder for Richardson....ouch.
The Magic = mission accomplished. 3 first round picks + Afflalo is still 26 and has gotten better every year. They take on Al Harrington & Nikola Vucevic but Moe Harkless could turn out to be a stud.
I don't think this trade makes the Lakers that much better than they were before. Howard is not much of an upgrade over Bynum. Bynum was willing to sign an extension but looks like Howard still wants to play out the season.
Denver - Winner
Magic - Winner
Sixers - WTF?
Lakers - WTF?
magic should have done the houston or brooklyn trades. rocket trade had a bunch of young players + draft picks which most likely will turn out a bit better placement than the ones they seem to be getting now.
it hits one of the lockout issues owners complained about, super team creation. owners stabbin each other in the throat for talent... what a waste that lockout is proving to be and no one should be shocked by that.
@nykever...great point about bynum but i think he has finally "grown into his body" ...im not sure hes a franchise player but hes PRETTY GOOD...its a great "problem" for philly to have...esp JUST for iggy who was overated (im still mad he made the olympic team over rudy gay)
The Magic were going to get nothing in return for Howard if they didn't deal him and other teams knew it. They get cap relief and Gasol. At least they get an All Star to shore things up while they add more pieces. Considering the alternative they're probably happy that this sorry mess is finally over and they can move on with something in their pocket so to speak.
If the Knicks can't get there, a Lakers/Heat finals would be epic. As a fan of the game. Doug Collins helped take a young Sixers team to within a game of the ECF. Collins has been around long enough to know how to incorporate a dominant center in his prime into his offense. If Bynum can stay healthy and stay on the same page with his teammates the Sixers will be good enough to regularly give elite teams problems.
I think Iggy is going to enjoy playing for Denver.
good analysis of bynum's impact to lakers on espn:
Bynum is an outstanding player, and should have a great career. But Howard is a transcendent talent, and represents and upgrade for a few reasons:
1. Defense. In four of the last five seasons, Howard has led the league in defensive win shares. In the fifth (last year) he was third. He is mobile in the pick-and-roll game, and has the ability to shut down a team's attack at the rim.
2. He fits better with Nash. Simply put, Howard is a devastatingly effective finisher in the pick and roll. Over the last two seasons, Synergy grades him as the most effective player as the roll man in the P-n-R among players with enough possessions to be statistically relevant. He's also great as a cutter, and has the mobility to move in and out of the lane as Nash probes for space. And in those instances the Lakers choose to utilize a Nash-induced fast break, Howard will be awfully handy.
3. Athleticism. Bynum is a rare figure, with perhaps the softest hands of any big in the league. But athletically, he's not Howard and athleticism is an attribute in short supply with these Lakers.

Gasol was not in the trade.
Philly is the winner here IMO. They were talking about moving Iggy a while ago, and already added Dorell Wright. Check out this team now:
1- Holiday/Ivey (Backup is weak)
2- Turner/Nick Young/Richardson
3- Wright/Thaddeus Young
4- Lavoy Allem/Moultrie
5- Bynum/Hawes/Kwame Brown
I don't know, this team is pretty stacked up now. If they learn to play together the rotations can be major trouble. That is a great group of ballers.
Nuggets Win here too
Lawson, Miller, Iggy, Chandler, Gallinari, Faried, C. Brewer, Fournier, McGee, Mozgov, Randolph, Koufos
Pretty deep team. They need a 2 guard though, unless someone is moving over.
Orlando didn't lose long term. Lakers stay the same IMO

Damn, looks like they're really taking the long view. This franchise has reloaded so many times its not funny. Neither is the job they've done in keeping their players happy. Part of it also falls on their star players over the years who with the exception of Grant Hill, have been divas.
Lakers need someone to help space the floor.

Bynum isn't exactly nothing. He's the best center in the league not named Howard. Breakdown...
Lakers: This deal is overrated in that Dwight isn't a huge upgrade from Bynum so it doesn't change the Lakers chances of winning it all next year (still puts them about even with the Thunder and not as good as Miami). It's great for them because they can build around Dwight after Kobe retires, assuming Dwight extends and is healthy.
76ers: This team made out like bandits. You get the second best center in the league and Richardson for Iggy? Can I nominate their GM for executive of the year now please?
Denver: Iggy is better than Al Harrington, so it's a win. Iggy isn't the superstar this team needs, but it's still pretty good for them.
Orlando got fleeced but they were in a no-win situation anyway.

It's a matter of respect. Thats why they get this deal done and the Knicks can't even sign Martin. Poor management on Orlando's part. They didn't want Gasol? What now they get a bunch of late 1st round picks and lottary protected with all of the team? They waited for this? The Magic are crazy if they let this go through.

No, Orlando didn't want a 32 year old PF with a max contract. Their GM knows they're going in the toilet so he dumped salary and picked up three first round picks. Building in the NBA means you go up or you go way down. Value-wise Orlando got robbed, but got what the GM wanted.
The Lakers found a way to give Orlando what they wanted: draft picks, cap relief and no drama. That's why the Lakers got the deal done.
I agree with JohnStarks fan..the winner in all this seems to be the Philadelphia Sixers and although I am surprised that Gasol was NOT part of the deal, dude has been playing like CRAP in these Olympics. A sign of things to come?
Anyway...I know what the main goal for Orlando was but this was terrible deal for them. The New Jersey Nets offer was much better.

But Orlando didn't get any cap relief. The contracts for Harrington and Afflalo are longer and worth more money than Jason Richardson's.
