I'm just glad Iggy's out of the division. That dude always seems to have Melo's number. For that reason alone I feel okay.

Andre was kinda disrespected in Philly and help Denv. forget Melo though I am happy Melo is here.
Andre is good for the west and their coach.
Philly's move makes no sense to me other than Bynum guess to clear $$$ and the probable move they got involved with getting Bynum in 1st place
But to lose sweet Lou, I think coach Collins got his work cut out for them in their team's Forwards play.
NY Knicks will jump past sixers again this upcoming yr

Lol. Sixer's have no shooters to space the floor either.
I see them as a lottery team.
can you at least check the stats before you make declarations?
Philly was a half court team last year by all definitions, especially pace.
And they got Nick Young, Holiday and JRich to help space floor ? Not too bad.
Sixer's half court execution sucks. They scored off transition baskets by playing defense and forcing turnovers.
Sixer's just traded their best defender and best player in Igoudala.
Bynum is an upgrade but he isn't Dwight Howard. The guy got destroyed by Javale McGee.
Evans has potential but he currently has Brandon Roy's moves minus the finish. Plus he doesn't have the physical tools to defend like Igoudala.
Sixer's will still make the playoffs because Orlando and Atlanta decided to tank before the season . Plus Chicago is stealth tanking.
Miami, Boston, NY, Brooklyn, Indiana, the rest. Should be a good fight for the 6th through 8th seed.

Bynum should put up good stats though.
jru holiday I would take over felton and Evan turner is finally starting to turn the corner.... also don't forget young..
Jennings > Holiday
Evans needs to become consistent in a hurry. I doubt it though.
Wilson Chandler > Thaddeus Young
Going to be a LONG season for Philly.

and what is our offensive identity? the sixers have an identity and a great coach... we have iso melo... sigh...
At least if he is iso he is the best in the league at it. I don't see Philadelphia being that good either, although i do think they are a playoff team. They still have good depth, especially on the wing, but i don't think they got that much better. They added a top player at a tough position to do so. But they lost probably their 2 best players from last season. I think they improve slightly only because Turner can help fill Igoudalas role to an extent. He isn't nearly as good tho.

Really? The same thing was true last year wasn't it?

The window is closing for the knicks in the next two years. Better move your fingers otherwise they get crushed.
Lets just say the knicks on paper are better. Philly go out of the gate last year really good and they did beat the "roseless" bulls.
They are well coached.
Every team will have a full camp this year.
Im not talking smack about other teams.
Not happy Bynum is in the east but it should make for better games and interest. The division got stronger.
Washington is not going to be a pushover anymore either.

No it wasn't. Different Coach.

The Division definitely got tougher but I'm glad it did- a bit more competition is a good thing as we'll hopefully get to see better basketball and better rivalries.
The past few years there were very few games and match ups to get excited about, and the playoffs sucked in the east- the 2012 playoffs were a joke, with the only interesting series being Miami Vs Boston.
I've got faith in this Knicks team, hopefully they'll rise to the challenge and we'll see some great games.

why is the window closing? everyone expires in 3 years except Novak and Shump. Melo will be 31 and Tyson will be 32, and those are 2 critical pieces. Love will be a free agent, and so will a lot of other players.
This current team has 3 good years to play together and the Knicks are in a good position to reset if necessary.

There's only two ways for us to sign free agents in 3 years We can use whatever exceptions we'll have available or we'll have to waive the rights to our own free agents. If we're going to try and sign a guy like Kevin Love that means we're starting over again.

Or we can trade one of our huge expiring contracts (Melo, Tyson or Amar'e) at the trade deadline- that's the biggest and easiest way we can improve. We're in good shape.
ChuckBuck@ 8/11/2012 3:02 PM
That's what I don't get about some fans or posters. They think we're locked in with this so called old team for a long time. All our current and newly signed players are all under contract for roughly the same period(3 years). We're all in. If it doesn't work out, we can blow it up no big deal, trade expirings or sign new free agents entering their primes in 3 years.

i think most understand that which is why i feel the window is pretty small with whats here now. it doesnt work over the next 2, by 3 they may be changing gears. if anthony steps up big over the next 2, maybe you keep him longer... things fizzle out, who knows where that goes.
id like to avoid the fizzle out as that has a feel of nba purgatory which we as fans have seen for 10+ years.

First off, Amare and Melo will have cap holds around $24M each and Tyson will have one around $15M so if we're going to have major cap room we're probably looking at losing two of them.
Second, we're not going to be able to trade an expiring contract and gain cap room at the same time. Expiring contracts are valuable because you can take another team's worse contracts along with some assets, like draft picks or players still on rookie deals.
Third, the type of player movement we've had over the last couple of years really has no historical precedent. I'd prefer to not rely on the same thing happening three years from now.
Finally, if we're so bad over the next three years that blowing up the team and starting over is the best option why would anyone want to sign with us? And why would we trust that management would be able to sell those players on wanting to play with us? Every report that's come out about our wooing of Lebron has been more embarrassing then the last.

Why is philly's backcourt better? I think they are very similiar...pretty much a wash, but the Knicks point guard depth trumps them
They have Jrue Holiday, Evan Turner, Nick Young, and Jason Richardson. We have Shumpert, JR, Felton, Brewer, Kidd, and Pablo. I would rank a healthy Shumpert a tick below Holiday and Turner but Shump isn't even healthy, and probably won't be until 2013-14, so those two are clearly the best out of that group. JR and Young are practically the same player so they cancel out. And Jason Richardson is better than Felton (barely mediocre), Brewer (nice defensive role player that can't shoot), Kidd (terrible last year), and Pablo (never played a minute in the NBA). Their group as a whole defends almost as good as ours does with a healthy Shump but they are all much better shooters. And they're much younger so they still have room to improve while we only have Shump.
And Philly's frontcourt is going to gel nicely because... Spencer Hawes has such a cool name? Lavoy Allen? A 4 RPG PF?? What??? Someone's sniffing some serious diaper cream.
Ahh the love of yoots. How it always springs eternal.
gunsnewing Nets > Miami > Philly> Bobcats> Knicks
You going to buy all those new jerseys, gunsnewing? That's some serious shekels you're looking at. Or are you just going to write those names on your kicks?
Spencer Hawes is a really nice young player who put up 10 ppg and 7 rpg in 25 mpg last season. And he's a very good passer for a big man. Philly could very easily be better than us within a couple of years. Also, have you seen any evidence that Melo, Amare, and Tyson will be able to gel? Because based on last season I have my doubts about that.
So your front court of the "future" is Bynum, who in seven years has managed one good season that made him into trade fodder for a DamagedStarphucque. Spencer Hawes, who's shaping up nicely to be a poor man's David Lee. And Lavoy Allen.
Yes, in just a few short years that front court will be ruling the world. SMH
Bonn1997@ 8/13/2012 9:41 AM
Bynum's no Greg Oden. He's played in about 80% of the games over the last 3 years and makes almost every playoff game. If he's healthy, he's better than anyone we have. No doubt, he's a risk but he can help them win a lot of games in the east.

Bynum has well more than one good season, last year was his first healthy season. He's also better than everyone on our team except for Melo.
Spencer Hawes is a nice role player who is a better rebounder and defender than anyone on our roster not named Chandler or Camby. He's also solid offensively and a good passer and fits in better with them than Amare has with our team so far.
I'd also add that their backcourt is better than ours. We have maybe two players on the same level as their four guys: JR Smith and Iman Shumpert if he can recover from his injury. As it is right now, we couldn't trade a single one of our guards straight up for one of theirs.
Finally, they're going to be pretty far under the luxury tax for the foreseeable future so they'll have all of their exceptions to use on free agents, something that we can't say.
mrKnickShot@ 8/13/2012 8:00 PM
Bynum is a freak of a talent and a far better center than Tyson though Tyson is not a dik and Bynum is.
It will be interesting to see what Doug Collins can get out of him. I fear/think he will dominate for him.
