Pablo's nickname is, The Maestro. I just watched an amazing highlight video on YouTube. I Can't link to it but it's called, The Maestro.

I think he's a very solid 3rd pg and the signing made a lot of sense when I thought the Knicks were loading up on PG knowledge to impart upon Lin. In any case he's battle tested so I see why he'd be preferred over a 21 year old undrafted rookie. I hope the TS didn't pull a muscle reaching for that thread title.

Sometimes I watch the video just for the music alone, so soothing:

Guy is 35 years old and not playing for a big contract. He is finishing up his last chance for a taste of the NBA and took a pay cut likley to come here. Kudos for him wanting the experience.

All he has to do is pass the ball. Perfect knick. Jason is also a pass first pg. Perfect.

We now have 3 pg's who Melo will get the ball from.

Will this work? We'll see. On paper it sounds good.

Hope this is not Dolan ranting that Lin and MDA making him look bad! If Melo look bad DOlan looks bad.

So get players in that make MElo look good. Lets hope Melo looking good translates to success.

Lets hope Pablo can shoot better than his Olympic showing. I know, he had kidney stones. ALreay we got "Reasons"!

The idea is to have guys that are moving so your PG doesn't have to go crazy with dribble drive just to create. SO long as you have player motion there will be openings that a TRUE PG can exploit with an accurate pass. This is why you bring in Kidd and Prigioni. So many people are stuck on the idea that your PG has to be fast and explosive but really he has to be accurate and smart. If he can read plays before they happen and make the timely pass that's more important than pure athletic ability.

You know it's funny cuz it's been so long since we've actually had a PG who was a Pure Passer that many Knick fans seem to have forgotten what that's like. You can be slow like Mark Jackson and still be an assist leader simply by having a high BB IQ and great passing skills. We have 2 older PG's that have the passing ability of a QB. They can stand there and pick a defense apart. That's what the Knicks brass was thinking with adding these old PG's. Sure it's great to have a PG that can penetrate and we'll get some of that from Felton.

Third string PG, who cares? Anything Prigioni gives is a bonus.
simrud @ 8/18/2012 2:00 PM
This team is built to win now - a young PG would never get any time anyways not with Felton and Kidd here. This guy is a reliable 3rd string pg in case somebody gets hurt etc. At least he is supposed to be. Anyways the point is that a young PG would never play this year.
nixluva @ 8/18/2012 6:40 PM
As i've been saying, we have to get over the thinking based on the way this team USED to play. That stuff is over and done with. This will be Woody's team 100% and he's gonna have his own style of play which won't be based off of the MDA style of offense. Think 04 Pistons style of offense. PG stays at top of 3pt range and you have a very solid half court offense. No need to rush up the floor out of control. Just work the ball around until you get a good shot or post up. Good player motion and sharing the ball. In that style of offense a PG like Priggy is gonna be very good.

How many 3rd string PG's make an impact? Usually it's some kid that you give garbage minutes to. If he has to play he'll be a dependable vet off the bench.

Lin.

We can all point to Lin, but that kind of outcome is not typical. Lin was a rare guy that really was a kid with talent but hadn't gotten a chance to stick. There was hope that he could help and show that he had talent to stick. Many times those kids are really D League level or lower and don't have very high chances to stick or see any significant minutes. Aside from naming Lin there aren't a lot of examples of kids like him having such an impact.

I think it makes sense cuz if you're trying to win a title you don't want to have to "teach" at this level. You don't have to worry about Priggy being able to handle the situation. People are worrying about the wrong thing. We don't need him to be able to score. We need him to distribute the ball to our scorers. Not many teams have a great 3rd string option. We have a steady guy to rely on.

Agree with most of what you're saying but shouldn't teams always be trying to teach? Seems to be part of what makes San Antonio awesome. They've taken numerous players and developed them.

On this Knicks team the key principles are signed for 3 years, there's no real reason to be in a teaching mode with this team. Also Woody is old school like his coaches Red Holzman and Larry Brown. He's not into the rookie thing that much. It makes his job infinitely more easy having players he doesn't have to "teach" how to win. If you're the coach of a team trying to go deep in the playoffs you really don't want a young team or young inexperienced players. VET TEAMS win titles.

Rare event that you can't bank on. It would be like pointing to a guy who didn't goto college and won the lottery as the formula for sucess over getting an education and not playing the lotto. If it were that easy then we should release KIdd and Felton and Prigioni and sign 3 PGs taht have never had NBA time and see if they'll turn into Lin. We may get 3 Jeremy Lins!
