Personally, I'd like to sign Shawne Williams, as he can shoot, defend and play 3, 4 and 5 (if he bounces back from last seasons disaster. Unfortunately it looks like the Knicks are bitter that he chose the Nets over us last year. Why they're bitter I don't know- they left it too long to try and sign him as they were pursuing other players, Nets jumped in with a higher offer and he took it- he was willing to sign for less with us if we'd offered it sooner, so we have only ourselves to blame.

Plus we didn't suffer- he played badly, and we used the money on JR smith mid season. Still, when Dolan feels betrayed there is no reasoning with him...

I don't really object to Sean either. I suppose at this point we either go for an over the hill vet, or an under achieving young player with problems but potential.

Shawne was hurt most of last year. I think if he was healthy someone would have signed him. Does anyone know his health status?

Ah, yes I was thinking of Shawne. Sean is fine too, but I'd like to have more than just Novak on the team that can shoot.0

Im not a fan of shawne only because he doesnt fit this team. Hes a MDA product who was only productive because of the wide open 3pt offense that we finally got rid of.he was servicable and he had some nice moments but he doesnt fit on this team anymore. Plus something tells me that his injury mustve been really bad since no one has picked him up

I'd like the Knicks to sign Sean Williams. Despite his past off court issues, he is talented and is still young. I liked him when he played for the Nyets.

This are Knicks type players... always recovering from something.
I think we should first recover the team from being mediocre/terrible and only then try to help some players to recover...

The recovery started with the 18-6 run and no back to back loses. The 15th man is a guy you can take a chance on. What other Knick players are 'recovering'?

Amare from pure season and hitting fire extinguishers,
Felton from being pissed, lazy, and fat,
Melo from midseason slump,
Kid from DUI,
Shrimp form bad injury,
Novak from disappearance after Lin left...

You honestly believe Novak's disappearance in the playoffs had anything to to with Lin (who's a good player but is not a pure pg by any stretch) or maybe, just maybe the Heat who are the best defensive team in the league had him well scouted and was able to shut-down the one dimensional player that he is. There's a reason he's been a journeyman in this league....

Exactly- did you see how they shut down Harden in the finals? Knick fans do tend to over react, and so when a player performs poorly in a playoff series against the best team in the league, they suddenly point to that as proving that the player stinks, while ignoring the previous 4 months. It's ridiculous.

Novak production start going down long before playoffs.
He is a kind of specialist who need to be open and for this you need peditrators and kick out players on the team which Lin provided.
Another way how Novak can get his shot is off the good screens and the only guy who was able to facilitate this was Jared.
With Melo and Stat running the iso ball Novak is useless. Not sure why we are paying him this much.
If you want to stretch the flour for Melo you need some shooters who can create his own shot of Rip/Ray type.

knickscity @ 9/3/2012 12:22 PM
There's more than one way to get novak open.

Kick out from the post, penetration, and maybe if he would move around and not stand in one spot.

Even though miami is credited for shutting down novak, most of it was his fault as well.

He still hit 57% of the threes he did take.

He also has a nice fake move, but rarely shoots off of it.

Here's a recent interview with him:

He has no idea where he's going to end up, so it looks like his agent probably used us as every agent uses us for every player.

I would welcome the addition of Sean Williams, I hope he at least gets a camp invite and I think he should make the roster.
At Kurt Thomas's age, I think we have to consider cutting him at some point.
He is not a PF, is a undersized Center that is not mobile or athletic.

The NBA has evolved with all the athletic F's and PF/C that have range, with their size, athleticism, and along with size/length.
To play in the PF spot, you have the be able to defend these type of players as well.

It isn't the 80s or 90's anymore, no more hand checking, and tricks that our 90's Knick's got away with without size and athleticism.

Out of our guaranteed contracts, I think we have to consider waiving James White and Kurt Thomas for other players.
We went all in this year already, we cannot let a few vet min contracts that are guaranteed just to save money, if we feel there are much better options on the market.

Chris Smith does not deserve a roster spot

Copeland I am not sure, but would not be against it.
I just don't think Adam Morrison is very comparable, with a feel of the NBA game.
I think Copeland can do some things that Morrison cannot do as well, but Morrison can do some things much better than Copeland as well, including shooting when squared up.
Copeland seems to have a little post up game, while both are not average or under average rebounders.
Adam Morrison tries to do more than his skills allow him to, he constantly shoots off the dribble when it is not his strength.
I watched Morrison in the Summer League and I think, they are both very similar in terms of skills.

I know Anthony Tolliver wants more than the vet minimum, but I think he is a far better rebounder/defender/ and can also hit the 3pointer when left open than both of these players.
He could play some of the roles that Jared Jeffries left us with and can hit the 3pointer too.
When given minutes he has shown he is a very good rebounder, hustle/energy player, runs the court well, and tough defender.
What I like most is that he can also play SF/PF/C, to give us some flexibility with roster spots with the versatility.
It doesn't look like he will get much more than the vet min at this point, with training camp approaching.
I hope we can add a player like this, with 2 years of veteran minimum contracts, then using his bird rights to sign a 3 year 6m deal.
I actually wanted to keep Jeffries for a 3 year about 5m deal like what Reggie Evans got as a Net.

Knicks aren't waiving Thomas. I think they wanted him. Vets are valuable. This team isn't about guys learning how to play. I would be psyched if they bring in a young guy but I think Thomas fills a role.
AnubisADL @ 9/8/2012 1:33 PM
I forgot about Anthony Tolliver. He would be a great pickup. Plus he is only 27.

Thomas is finished. Think of him like Juwan Howard on the Heat.

We got Camby, Chandler, Amare, Kidd, Felton and Melo to keep the young guys in check.

I just want to have some front court help since Camby, Amare, and Chandler arent known as iron men.

Knicks wanted Thomas. They also wanted him the previous offseason. I think he gets 15-20 minutes a night next year.
