43% is not bad. thats H20, Melo and Kobe's FG% Not everyone is Lebron. Problem is at this point in his career he is more like 36%

Melo is closer to 46 and so is Kobe - not great either.

IF Woody thinks he can help then i'm fine with it. We have to get over this thing about players age. This team is gonna be looking for smart players when the playoffs come around and the game slows down to half court. Guys like TMac are smart and skilled. What's wrong with having a guy like that on the floor for 10-15 minutes? Can he be any worse than some of the bench guys we've had in the past? I think he'd be better in some ways. If he has nothing left i'm sure they won't bother.
gunsnewing@ 9/14/2012 2:32 AM
good point. at 63 he is better than Billy Walker and Landry Fields ever were
gunsnewing@ 9/14/2012 2:37 AM
Also sometimes it takes guys years to regain some of their game after major injuries. Like Grant Hill who's career has been revived. Tracy can have that lond of comeback since he is only 33 not 39
loweyecue@ 9/14/2012 6:16 AM
Smart? Someone said smart? We want Marbiry 2 on the team? AGAIN? That WOULD be smart, indeed. We will soon be left smarting for more!
The guy who always wanted Isiah and Gilbert Arenas also wants T-Max, what else do you need to know This whole "TOUGH" image people have created for Woodson is so tired and lame. He will be hard pressed to just handle MelO and JR. Now we have Kidd on top of that. What he WAS is irrelevant, what he IS, is what we will GET.

The issue is that TMac *might* be thinking about the right thing to do, but his body doesn't respond the way it used to. I don't know if he's transitioned into knowing the limitations of his post-surgery body. Many players don't, so their play suffers.
The good ones make adjustments and find ways to be effective in other ways.
TMac or Walker/Fields? At least Walker had his tough-guy-never-back-down personality while Fields has a high motor and is very active - among the top rebounds for a guy who can play the 2G.

Felton, Camby, Kurt, and now T-Mac?

Woodson had no problem getting in JR's face in front of everyone when he f'ed up so I don't see him having any trouble handling him. As for Melo, I don't see him having issues with Woodson since he plans on making the most of the skills Anthony brings to the table. I can't remember the last time Kidd had issues with a coach. Trees, yes, coaches no.

You are right except kidd had major issues with byron scott

That was 5 years ago and Kidd has had a few coaches since then, and it didn't stop the Nets from getting to the finals. Besides, Scott shot down those rumors. His DUI notwithstanding, Kidd has matured as a player. I don't see him causing problems, he knows he is on thin ice after this summer anyway.

Im not worried about chemistry issues with this team outside of how amare and melo work together. Im more concerned that the team doesnt have enough talent to compete with the elite teams. You need some youth when you dont have lebron kobe and durant.

That's a legit concern. Those teams have the MVP, NBA scoring champ, Former MVP with some major new pieces. We do have Shump and Brewer who are still young, and Novak is somewhere in between so they aren't all charter members of team geritol.

You sign McGrady because you can trust him to make the right play on the court in crunch time. The same. Ant be said for the likes of Smith. Are we really expecting Copeland and White to be big producers at both ends of the floor this year?
This is a no brainer move for the Knicks.
Obviously Mcgrady wants to win or he would have stayed on tanking teams like Detroit and Atlanta.
yea, T-mac may be close to done, but he is still a smart and skilled player.. he would probably be the most well rounded player we have next to kidd.. which is sad that they are both on their last legs.... a few years ago and we are in business....
Problem is he's lazy, and yet complains about lack of minutes. If I remember correctly he had some attitude problems with Atlanta last season, and despite being productive according to the stats, they kind of stopped playing him towards the end of the season, and he started pouting even more.
I agree it's sad seeing his decline (can't believe he's only 33), he used to be an amazing player. watch the tragedy rewind:
I remember how excited we were when he played his first game with us, and then things went downhill fast. He had a feud with D'Antoni (probably over his laziness- he suggested he should only play every other game or something).
So his attitude puts me off, as well as the fact that if you sign him, it means we won't be signing a back up PF/C (which would be madness with Amar'es and Camby's and Tysons injury histories). If we did sign him, then we'd really need to give some serious thought into cutting Kurt Thomas.

Wow, it's easy to forget how good he was:
A shame he never did much in the playoffs, we missed some great duels.

Getting in someone's face doesn't resolve the problem. Especially with people who are already multi-millionaires. This is why the old school coaching mindset no longer fits. Woodson will eventually go the Larry Brown route. He can get in people's faces all he wants once a course guys tune him out we won't be able to get rid of him fast enough. Not saying that's how it should be. But "toughness" don't mean jack when you can't back it up and Dolan won't let Woodson mess with his favorite toys.

You're right, that alone doesn't do it, Woodson will also sit a player who doesn't perform. Case in point, right after Woodson took the head coaching job, when Lin was the talk of the NBA and a huge moneymaker for the Knicks, Jeremy was turning the ball over like he was under MDA and Woodson wasn't having it. He was pulling Lin early in the first, yelling at him, and it paid off because after getting pulled a few times, Lin's turnovers started to drop and he played under control. As far as that approach being old school, it worked for Rick Carlisle. His problem was knowing when to back off which is why he kept getting fired despite having a great track record. Pops still gets in people's faces so its not like that way of doing things is dead and gone. Woodson has backed it up. If he is willing to sit a cash cow like Lin to make a point, I don't believe he will having any problem sitting anyone else.
As far as McGrady, I never suggested it was necessarily a good move but it wouldn't bother me because I don't believe if he did cause problems that he would have the same effect as say a Marbury who was the face of the franchise. Can we do better? Yes. I don't see it as a move that will adversely affect the Knicks and its a low risk gamble IMO.

I will believe woodson when he sits carmelo and amare for not playing defense.
gunsnewing@ 9/14/2012 11:37 AM
Im more interested in seeing if Woodson will sit Amare when he is not trying to defend the opposing pf and insert camby for defense. He will never sit melo because melo gives effort on both sides for woodson. If he sits amare then I know for a fact woodson will sit anyone who doesnt give effort.
If Mcgrady is lazy then he will sit and eventually be waived

haha, we were thinking the same thing there. I did see woodson pick on fields, for the life of me, I am not sure why he seemed to have it in for fields, but fields was on a short leash, while JR smith had carte blanche to jack up these playground shots it seemed...
