Knicks · were here because of Amare..He's not going No where (page 1)

Rasheed Wallace is mulling a return to the NBA.

If the veteran forward decides to come back and join the New York Knicks, Tyson Chandler said he thinks Wallace would be "a great addition" to the team.

The Knicks brought Wallace in for a workout on Saturday, ESPN.com's Ric Bucher reported.

Chandler was there for the workout. He said the 15-year veteran "looked good."

"I hope he stays. I don't know what the situation is but he's a great communicator on defense and we know he can knock down the open 3 and the jump shot," Chandler said on Wednesday at his photo exhibit "A New York Minute" -- a series of photos by Chandler has taken over the past year. "To have myself and Amare [Stoudemire] and to have Marcus Camby and Rasheed as backups, it's going to be nice."

Wallace retired in 2010 after reaching the NBA Finals with the Boston Celtics.

It is unclear if Wallace is in playing shape now. (For what it's worth, here is video of Wallace playing in a pro-am league over the past two summers.) A league source said Wallace is a "possible" candidate to join the Knicks.

The Knicks have 13 guaranteed contracts, and in theory can add two more to get to the maximum roster allotment of 15. They have 19 players overall under contract, but six of the 19 are under partial or non-guaranteed deals.

The Knicks have also shown interest in Kenyon Martin, Lou Amundson and Josh Howard, among others. Amundson signed with Minnesota earlier this week. Martin hasn't made a decision. Reports earlier this summer indicated he was holding out for a more lucrative deal than the veteran's minimum, which is all the Knicks can offer.

New York, of course, could decide to stand pat and leave two roster spots open in case a veteran becomes available during the season. Or the Knicks could use the final two spots to carry two players not under fully guaranteed contracts.

If they bring in the 6-foot-11 Wallace, it would likely be to back up Amare Stoudemire and, barring injury, fill in at center. Wallace, widely known for his penchant for technical fouls, is also a strong post defender.

TYSON EXCITED TO SEE STOUDEMIRE, WORK WITH HAKEEM: Chandler has been at the Knicks' facility in Greenburgh along with Stoudemire working with Hakeem Olajuwon to implement post moves into his game. Chandler called Olajuwon "a great teacher."

"Obviously, his moves are great, but not everybody can incorporate their moves into teaching," Chandler said.

Chandler acknowledged that he and Stoudemire may struggle initially to implement the moves into their offensive attacks, but he feels confident they'll eventually be able to execute what Olajuwon has taught them.

"Our team is going to need us to have a post presence and we're going to work hard," he said.

On Stoudemire, Chandler said he can't wait to see him take the floor healthy this season. Stoudemire struggled with a back injury in the 2010-2011 offseason and was out of shape for the early portion of the 2011-12 season. He also suffered through the death of his brother. But he's healthy this season and optimistic about turning things around.

"He started this whole thing," Chandler said of Stoudemire, who signed with the Knicks in the summer of 2010. "The reason why we're here is because of him. The reason why I was willing to be a Knick is because of him. The reason why Melo was willing to be traded here was because of him. So I feel like we all have a little thanks to give to Amare.

"I'm looking for him being healthy and coming out with the championship together."

Chandler's photos were auctioned off at the Manhattan event, which was attended by nearly every Knicks player on the roster. Proceeds benefit the U.S. Fund for UNICEF.

The whole organization feels like that, and all some fans can say is, he's untradable, he's injury prone, he's knees, he's defense, he's lost a step..

All this after one bad compacted season..I can't understand the loyalty of some fans....imagine if we signed JOE Johnson and CHRIS BOSH..smh

Is STAT better than Bosh?

Well injuries are not aside, and Bosh is a far far better defender.

If I were to sign one of them for one year, next year, at the max - I sign Bosh in a heartbeat. And, Bosh's jumper was deadly in the playoffs. Stats is in witness protection.

It's not just one bad season, he's been bad since the 14-1 run ended his first year here. That whole year, until the Melo trade, MDA ran Amare into the ground to the point that he was playing well into the 4th quarter during blowouts. I think there's a reasonable chance that Amare will never be the same player he was.

NBA Rank:

Amare - 43
Bosh - 18

I was far from joking.

ESPN ranks are taken as factual now. Last I checked they were opinions.

LoL, this is hilariously absurd on so many levels.

People kill Melo for losing in the First Round.

People kill Amar'e even though he got past the first round numerous time.

People hype Bosh even though he never got out of the first round and routinely missed the playoffs prior to being carried by Wade and LeBron.

My point is most people just have no real perspective. If Bosh were in NY you kids would be killing him, calling him soft and screaming his defense sucks. Bosh is an average defender at best.

knickstorrents @ 9/27/2012 11:51 PM
To me Amare is more of a 'winner' than Bosh (despite Bosh's titles).

Well yeah, Of course..If a player is injured it's a no brainer...I'll take Tony Douglas over Scotty Pippen, Next Year...But what Amare brings is muvh more than that..U might have forgotten, Amare was a beast when he broke into the league, he imposed his physical will on vets...Amare leads, Bosh Spice follows...

Yea, I am gonna take a break from this board until we are like twenty games into the upcoming season. Right now this board primarily consist of people doing their best to tear down amare/melo and people crying about Gallo / Lin. It's nauseating.

So you want people to do reverse 20 gams into the season - tear down Gallo / Lin and cry about amare/melo? Hmm... Is it crazy ore what?

HAHA! I like Gallo and Lin. I wish them the best. I just think the Knicks have improved and the roster is solid. I look forward the season. I am all for sound criticism but when people start with this Melo has had a horrible career, does not improve teams and is selfish line of reasoning it boggles my mind. When people claim Lin is better than Melo and Amar'e it boggles my mind. When people indicate that Gallo is better than Melo it boggles my mind.

The Heat don't win their TITLE without Bosh. And, when he was hurt, they did not look too good.

Not saying much when he's 1 of 3 players that can actually ball.

Amare was - Amare was. Amare isn't that Amare. Again, I do not dispute that he "was".

If you could do it all over again, would you have signed him to the max? If you answer yes then you (and the other Amare homers) are alone. Walsh/The Knicks I am sure realize that it was a mistake. He gave us one good half out of a five year contract and 2 big playoff no shows.

Can he prove everyone who would not take a chance on him, which is everyone other than the knicks wrong? Of course he can - lets see how it plays out.

Yes without a 2nd thought. Amare, had a bad year last year, no disputing that but STAT is the better player of the two.

Amare is going to have a great season..... no doubt in my mind.

People foget just how good of a player Amare is. He has holes but who doesn't?

A healthy Amare = Best PF in the league.

yellowboy90 @ 9/28/2012 2:24 AM
Bosh vs Amar'e who knows? They are in different roles but neither one play good defense or rebound like they should. Could Amar'e be great as a third fiddle in Miami? Don't know but I will say Bosh may get the edge due to him not deing pg dependent. Also, Bosh responded from public ridiculed and up'd his game. Will Amar'e?
