Carmelo Anthony played well last season at the power forward position, but he doesn't want to play as much this season.Anthony typically has played small forward during his career.
"I'd rather play my natural position." said Anthony.
Wasn't the opinion and stats showed he played better at the 4 or team played better when he played the 4? If he plays the greatest portion of minutes at the 3 do we have any clear advantages going in to each game with conventional line-ups.
If Melo plays extended mins at the 4, we have a clear disadvantage on the defensive end. I can still see David West abusing him in the paint. Not only that, but we would have to worry abot foul trouble and Melo wearing down if he gest extended mins at the 4. Wouldn't mind seeing him steal a few mins at the 4 when Stat goes the bench but not much. Also, we have Sheed, Kurt and Camby who will need mins at the 4-5 aswell.
And yes, we should have clear advantages in most games with him at the 3 being that he's one of the elite 3's in the game....

We wouldn't be at a defensive disadvantage for the most part. Very few teams have two good big men to take advantage of Melo at the 4 and any team with only one we can have Tyson play him on defense.
I want to believe but...Melo seems clueless.

I remember that vividly..he is a defensive liability at the position...Many here forget that or just isn't paying attention..He was also being physically abused at one point...It takes too much out of his game...I think what people do is look at the box score and say he had a great game not factoring in that he is shooting more because Amare isn't there...
most important thing is that Melo is happy and his role makes him happy and his teammates are there to keep him happy.
with the team Grunny has constructed, he shouldn't have to log extensive minutes at the 4. And nothing wrong with a player wanting to play his normal, accustomed position.
People forget that when you play a guy out of position, you often kill continuity and the flow of the game. Instead of being able to play to your strengths "instinctively," you find yourself thinking.

" cuz when your smiling, the whole world smiles with you........."
Keep Melo smiling!
Actually, if he is few pounds lighter it would make him that much harder. I get his point and agree with. If he tends to fill out as he gets older and loses a step his natural position then gravitates to the 4.
A happy melo is a productive melo!

He was such a liability that our team had its best run in a decade.

Then maybe we should run the same lineup out there and make our Championship run...Why try to improve on perfection...Funny thing tho, if we listened to u and the other haters, that run neither validated the trade nor came close to what Linsanity offered...So which is it???
Melo ball for 82 games...Dandy, never thought u would come around....

Of course one third of one regular season doesn't validate a trade.
it's funny how Melo is a primadonna whiny little bitch cancer on this message board
but Jim Boeheim has nothing for love for him at both Syracuse and the Olympics. Coach K gushes about Melo
wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Melo aint perfect wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Linsanity given the minutes and touches Lin got, in that concentrated schedule was not sustainable.
Can't extropolate that result and expect it to last.
Same for the legend that is "18-6". Team made its run to finish strong and make a memorable run to end the season feeling good. I don't think Melo is able to do that over the course of a season. Guys played thru injury and I thought Woodson did a great job bringing them together.
New season, new faces and a full 82 game season. All teams have camp and many of the top players will be in proper condition to start the season.
Melo as a 4 given his quickness and rebouding prowess when so motivated could elevate his status but he'd get pounded.
Another way to preserve the body is to PASS!!!!!!
MElo pick and role would be crazy with Amare! Melo demands double teaming.

Nor does it validate whether a young player is destined to be a future all star, but thats another argument.....

Spend too much time worrying what some feel about Melo. I mean we have a good team and we should focus on that. Let's go Knicks!!!!

I think this is the first time in nba history that a ten year veteran player has expressed a preference for playing their established position- madness!
I think Melo was just on fire in the last 10 games or so that got us into the playoffs- I think people seem to be attributing it to him playing PF, which may be the case, but it might just have been a coincidence.
This is the biggest non-story I've ever heard. Melo only played the 4 ladt year because Amare was out. Jeffries was out. They were extremely thin at the position. Of course Melo is going to say what he said now. They have Camby, KT & Rasheed. Fuckin New York media!

no, its not. Duncan for years has said he doesn't want to play center, Bosch before mid-last season had stated he didn't want to play center and Kevin Garnett has evidenced the same sentiment. Nothing strange or even rare about a guy saying he wants to play his natural position. Amare even stated he preferred playing PF last season.
I can go on....Josh Smith has stated he doesn't want to play power forward (or was it SF) at one point, Antwan Walker demanded the right to move form small forward (just to give you a different slant on the same topic).
There is absolutely nothing wrong with what he said and, with this roster, he shouldn't be needed to log minutes there.
