Oh well, let him implode BK's lockerroom.

Didn't Denver let Earl go to China with no kind of offer presented and no attempt at S&T to get value back for him? Smith was only 25yrs old then. Oh well he'll be our chucking no defense playing problem.

Yep letting a player walk in free agency is the same as paying a player 22million to leave.

Getting no value back for a 25yr old Enigma who supposedly will turn it around in New York is never a good sign. While there was a lockout J.R. went overseas because Denver all but told him early on he wasn't getting a new contract.

Not to menton they still owned his BRs when he returned and they still gave him 50ft to sign where he wanted...N S&Ts...not even for a future protected 2nd round pick. Naw ya'll can sell that to someone else gullible

What does that have to with letting a free agent walk versus paying a young player to leave???

I don't know about you, but if I really have no dog in the fight as one of you "realist", why fuck are you talking all the conjecture about what may have or may not have happened between a FA and his team when it's clear as day why Blatch isn't a Wizard???

They paid him to leave or to put my spin on it like you did, "Not to menton they still owned him for 3 years and they still told him to get 50ft away from the training complex and to sign where he wanted...No Trades...not even for a future protected 2nd round pick. Naw ya'll can sell that to someone else gullible."

Are you sure about Denver having J. R.'s bird rights in 2011? He was drafted in 04.

Yes they had his BRs go look up Earl's contract history with Denver(USA TODAY) and figure it out.

This is what I found on it which would mean they did not have his bird's rights because he was 7 yrs in.

Under the 2011 CBA, Bird-exception contracts can be up to five years in length, down from six under the 2005 CBA.[5]

They had his bird rights as a player who had been on their team for 2 plus season. Not early bird or rookie rights.

And we let Lin walk away for nothing, and last year the Spurs cut Novak rather than get anything in return, so I guess that means both those players are trash.

I wanted Blatche here and think you have got to take a chance on guys with Talent like that. You find a way.

I agree that management was thinking the Knicks are the Melo and Stat show, mostly the former. And they don't want another scorer to come here. Another reason they let Lin go imo - this is Melo's team and it was turning into Lins (from a fans perspective).

As TKF said, we are pretty much "stuck" with this team for the next 3 years. We don't have much roster flexibility. Our only hope is: 1 - This team as constructed does something 2 - It does enough to attract min guys.

Or, the reason why Lin singed the poison pill contract because he wanted his own team...Lin saw his production go down when Woodon took over and slowed the pace. If Lin really wanted to be here he would would still be here imo...

Proof? I mean what was Lin to do? The Knicks didn't make him and offer and told him to go out and get one. What should he have done? It was Houston - solely, who changed the offer.

Yeah, he could have been here if he at least had gotten an offer.

If Washington amnestied Blatche, then money wasn't the issues since he would've gotten paid the same regardless. Also, it means that a number of teams had an opportunity to bid on him and they passed. Says a lot about how much Blatche's rep fell around the league and how much he wanted to play for Brooklyn. Can't really fault Knicks management for this.

So in other words Lin should have forfeited his right to negotiate if he truly wanted to be here?

Okay

Melo could have signed with us the following summer as a free agent and we could have a far better team right now correct?

Ask yourself which player costs this team more in the long run?

Actually the Miami Heat and Spurs were interested in Blatche signing with them. Teams were smart in that they felt no need to make a bid on him as they could sign him on their terms.

Wasn't there a lockout and several players opted to play overseas for guaranteed paydays? Didn't Wilson Chandler go there too? Didn't Deron go to Turkey? Didn't K-Mart? Didn't Tony Parker?

EnySpree @ 10/18/2012 3:35 PM
He's been playing very well in pre-season.....Coach Avery has been raving about him....they have a hue steal....this guys is really playing well.

If the Knicks signed him, we would be talking about trading Amare....especially since Amare is Hurt. If Blatche was a knicks and was playing the way he is now....aw man!

We'll see how it plays out but if Amare and his corny self can't cut it this season, he should be outta here.

I get my proof from the same place tkf gets his proof that Melo orchestrated the trade of Lin, traded himself to the Knicks and personally fired MDA eventhough he quit...

Did the Harvard grad really think the Knicks would have no problems matching that poison=pill contract? I'm not faulting Lin for getting his money, but he had to know the Knicks would be in the hole for almost 30 mil (could be more, I'll double check) in the last year of his contract.

We were the ones who said we'd match up to a BILLION dollars before he received his first offer from anyone.

My advice...don't play poker if you don't want to finish out the hand.

Did Melo understand had he'd signed in the summer we may have Mozgov/Gallo/picks plus more cap flexibility not having to worry about as much Tax implications?

Is there a direct quote from nick management that stated they would match any offer? I ask, not trying to be facetious, but I remember reading articles that said as much, but dont remember Knick management directly saying this.

As far as Melo is concerned, it would have been bad business on his part to wait and sign as a FA because he would have lost major dough. Especially with the uncertainty of the new collective bargaining agreement, he wanted to get his money, and I cant blame him. Same with Lin, I'm not knocking him for getting his money, especially if he's proven to be a flash in the pan.

Why do people still bring this up? Do some basic offseason reading- nearly every team says they will match any offer their RFA get- they say this whether it is true or not to deter other teams from even bothering to make them an offer. What was slightly different this offseason was that under the new CBA, the time a team has to match was cut to a much shorter length. So in the past a team would have it's money tied up in limbo for a week or so, which acted as a deterrent. Now it's only, what 3 days or something? so it's less of a gamble. In addition the new luxury tax has created the new 'poison pill' tactic, which Morey used twice.

In short Knicks did nothing wrong saying they'd match any offer- it's standard practice and was the right thing to do. Criticize letting Lin go if you want, but us saying we'd match any offer had nothing to do with it- it's just a standard tactic with RFA.

Nalod @ 10/19/2012 10:12 AM
My understanding was some analyst said "a billion" in reference to the endless supply of Money with KNicks (Limited intelligence).

I don't think the quote was direct form a knick official or if it was, it was off the cuff.

My take was also knicks wanted him. I think over time Lin has questioned this at times but I go back to "the steak dinner".

I think if the knicks did not want him theycould have figured it out to include him in a trade or parlay him into a reasonable 1st round pick.

Nalod @ 10/19/2012 10:19 AM
BTW, Blatch is going to be great this season.

N*ts looked like crap last nite as Boston was embarassed by N*t bench earlier this week and took it to them.

All teams have stinkers and preseason is a good time to have one. Im going to guess the team got a little full of itself with all the media attention and new arena. Would not put it past a good coach to promote an ass whooping (once apparent) to bring team down to earth and let leadership develope. N*ts looked out of sorts still with too much passing and no rhythm.

No different than any other team.

Boston was intense last nite. It works for them.
