This is not about Lin or any other dumb side issue. It's crazy how any injury issue turns into wild stabs at unrelated issues. Just WAY too early to be panicking.
I dont think its time to panic however i still think amare off the bench will help him and the team better. It will give him a chance to be the main scoring option when melo is out and helps the second unit

Explain to me how it's better to have one scoring option when teams like Boston and Miami, who were competing against in the East, starts 3 scoring options...

hey im just going bu what i've seen so far. when amare/melo are on the floor together it just hasnt clicked. both need the ball. I mean melo at least plays defense and rebounds while amare cant play any defense. However coming off the bench with kidd/pablo and jr will let amare be a beats against the other teams secodn unit

And when was that???...Last preseason game??..Or was it when Lin didn't want to pass the ball to either of them??...When has Amare looked good without a PG to run the pick and roll with???

Wish we still had that amnesty..

Amar'e looked great before this, that's what's so annoying about it. I'm more worried not about the cyst but rather the fact they usually (in the majority of cases) occur due to arthritis in the knee (or a meniscus tear). Given the fact Amar'e had micro fracture surgery in the past, that's not a good sign at all.

I hope I'm wrong and you're right though!

Looks like the one who was right all along is Steve Kerr

Why do people hate on melo when stat has given us nothing in the playoffs, plays worse defense and is clearly not a star player anymore.

I never wanted him signed here....never not for $100mil

He didn't show much his past 2yrs in Phx when it mattered. He's a good dude but like Kerr said....

“They couldn’t go back to their fans and say, ‘Hey we re-signed David Lee.’ Lee’s a good player, very underrated player. And arguably, for the five years, you’d rather have him over Amar’e based on his health. But if you’re the Knicks, your fans have suffered for two years, you need to sell season tickets, sponsorships, you have to hang your hat on somebody and Amar’e was the best available guy for them.”

“There is a shelf-life with microfracture surgery,” Kerr said. “Amar’e is now five years removed and there’s a lot of wear-and-tear — he’s played big minutes. We looked at the league the last six, seven years and we were very afraid of a Jermaine O’Neal situation, where the Pacers just got hamstrung by a long contract. ... In our situation in Phoenix it didn’t make sense to extend out for five years, but the Knicks situation I understand the gamble and the risk and I think they made a good move.”

“From Amare’s standpoint it was very important for him to get that guaranteed money because he’s more aware of his health than anybody,” Kerr said.

The big question about Amar’e — and with our situation Phoenix last year — was will the knee holdup? Short term, at least, he’s an All-Star.”

We had the nerve to pay him $100mil without insurance and our crack medical staff is doing nothing for him. Amar'e should have gave half his salary to Phx Suns medical staff and ported them to New York.

Lin is gone and he's NEVER EVER EVER EVER coming back.

Does that help?

Sorry, I'm not going to feel sad over a kid that was AMAZING for somewhere around 25 games and earned himself $20 MILLION DOLLARS!!
I'm a fan of Lin, what he did last year was unbelievable. I will always root for him, but save your tears for someone who isn't laughing their way to bank somewhere in Houston, Texas. He's living his dream, he doesn't need anyone's pity. He made a decision that he felt worked in his best interest.

A little perspective:

If you made $100,000 a year your entire working life (21 yrs -72 retirement) you would have only earned $5,100,000.00 . Lin signed a contract for over 4 times that and that's not including endorsements or future contracts. That's 4 lifetimes.

That's why I don't get all the idiots who where outraged over Conan O'Brien's firing. That guy got $45 million just for being fired! That would take almost 9 lifetimes to earn for a person earning 100k and most people don't even earn that much.

These rich ppl are happy swimming in their money, good for them. If Lin never recovered from his injury, he'd be set for life. If a normal person suffered a debilitating injury, they might risk being on the street.

It would be nice if ppl didn't inject Lin into every topic...at least try to relate it to the thread if they really need to.

As for Amar'e, get well soon. He really can't seem to catch a break.

The left knee is the one he had micro fracture surgery on. Hope it doesn't turn out to be anything serious.

This Amare news make me jelous of the lakers. The Knicks get second rate "stars" and broken down "stars". The Lakers get the Nash, Kobe and Howard while keeping Gasol. I wonder if I will ever see a Knick team get anywhere close to a championship.

Walsh had to come away with something after trading assets and letting guys walk for two years.

My EXACT sentiments watching the Lakers game tonight

nixluva @ 10/22/2012 1:21 AM
Man none of this makes me jealous of the Lakers. We have our own team and I actually like the roster we have. Yes we have some injury issues but most of them are really minor or the one big one with Shump is almost done recovering.

I think people are way too harsh on STAT and Melo at this point. Neither has had a stable situation here and there have been some injury issues to be sure, but Kobe, Wade, CP3, DHoward and DRose have had health issues too!!! The thing is only Knicks fans think injuries are only happening to Knicks players!!! Just cuz STAT had this cyst doesn't mean that it conclusively means he's done with some more serious issue. I'd remind people that Kidd is still playing on Micro Fracture repaired knees too. Let's let Amar'e heal and see if this is anything serious.

They did an MRI so i'm pretty sure they looked at everything going on in his knees.

"Here we go again." That's all some Knicks fans could think about Sunday afternoon when word broke that Amar'e Stoudemire would miss 2-3 weeks with a cyst in his knee.

After dealing with lower back issues on and off since 2011, the focus has turned to his left knee, which underwent microfracture surgery in October 2005. He suffered a bone bruise on that same knee during practice on Oct. 10, and then an MRI revealed the ruptured popliteal cyst in its joint area.

After consulting with ESPN injury analyst Stephania Bell for more insights, here's what the injury means to STAT's health, as well as the team:

THE INJURY

1. A popliteal cyst, or Baker's cyst, is not uncommon and not a serious injury. It's usually the result of irritation in the knee joint, which produces fluid that collects in the back of the knee. If the cyst ruptures, there is pain and inflammation into the calf muscles, which is what happened with Stoudemire. It's possible for these cysts to recur, especially if the joint continues to be irritated. What's more important is the long-term durability of his left knee because of his previous microfracture procedure.

2. Rest and Stoudemire's conditioning level will help. Because he was dealing with a recent bone bruise, the rest from the cyst recovery will help his knee -- and the timing of it is still early enough for additional precautionary measures to be taken. In addition, Stoudemire is in great shape, and the more fit an athlete is, the better he is in terms of healing, maintenance and staving off the recurrence of any new symptoms.

I think this is all related to the same injury he had with the Bruised Knee and he probably just needed more time to heal. It's really hard to know how your body will react until you push it a bit. I still believe STAT is a huge addition to this team and when we get into the playoffs we're gonna need his skills. People just need to chill.

Vmart @ 10/22/2012 9:17 AM
I had the same injury as Amare. Cyst in to popliteal fossa and this is very painful as it restricts movement of the joint. I had it for six months. My primary doc wanted x-rays and got them saw nothing he said nothing is wrong with your knee. A month later I asked him to get me an MRI and they found the cyst. The sports medicine doctor that I saw said we aren't going to drain it she said I want you to get back to running and let it rupture. Once the cyst ruptures your full mobility will come back.

I think the Knicks are Being cautious with Amare but what he needs now is a little rehab stint to get the flexibility back in the Knee. If anything this is good news that the cyst ruptured.

Thanks for sharing the info- Once it ruptured, how long was it until you were back to pretty much 100%? Also did you have any underlying knee issues (arthritis)? Did the cyst ever return?

ChuckBuck wrote:Super Hindsight I know, but dam did the Phoenix Suns know best in not resigning this china doll...

I know a lot of people are saying Kerr was right, but I still think the Suns made a mistake not signing him. They were willing to sign him to 4 years, not 5, so I assume the docs thought his knee would hold up til the 4th year.

By letting Amar'e go, they wasted the rest of Nash's time there- 2 years they could have still been competing. Probably could have kept Nash this year too.

They then went and squandered all the money that they would have spent on Amar'e, on scrubs instead (Channing, Hakeem Warrick and Childress)- complete waste of money. I'd rather take the risk on Amar'e than sign known quantities such as those.

Finally, the new cba gave them an amnesty they could have used in the 5th year if Amar'e had broken down. Granted, they didn't know that at the time, but it would have solved the problem of the 5th year.
