This is my take on it and why I tell people not to assume and/or use their crystal balls. As of now, the official report is two to three weeks.
Not enough good doc's in NYC?
Go for a second opinion from a surgeon?
Why do patients do that?
Considering surgery? Im no doc, nor even have a frequent stay plan at "Holiday Inn Express", but its logical!
I hope he is just going for injections or an opinion on him being able to play.
But I got a whole bunch of hate stored up if this goes really bad for him.
Interesting- according to an old article posted on realgm, Amar'e has had a bakers cyst before, on his right knee. It was after his attempt to return from micro fracture surgery on his left. After he complained about soreness, the found it and decided to operate to see what was causing the excess fluid build up. Turned out it was general wear and tear, and they cleared that up. Maybe that's what he's facing and that's why he's gone back to that doc for a second opinion.

Perhaps the fact that it burst on its own is a good thing. There's no need to go in and do anything and perhaps the best path now is rest and therapy.

The complication in that is that if the source of the irritation that caused the cyst isn't fixed, it can just reappear months later. The best case scenario for this is if the cyst grew due to fluid from the bone bruise. Medium case is that he needs the knee scoped to clear debris (same op as Dirk). Worst case is arthritis/ micro fracture surgery.
Hmm... Zack Lowe just tweeted:
Amare's agent. MT @Happy Walters: To Knicks fans sending me messages... Stat will be fine. He's working w/ team trainers - will b back ASAP.

To all of the Knicks fans sending me messages... Stat will be fine. He's working w/ team trainers - will b back ASAP.

So after 8days if everything was fine I'm pretty positive agents don't routinely come out and say things like this to the media. If he'll be back A.S.A.P. then he's playing after the first week.
Since when do agents give updates in such nature? A.S.A.P. means As Soon As Possible....which means As Soon As Amar'e Knee Is More Than Possible Of Allowing Him To Play...which means not definitive.
First of all his name is "Happy". They guy is going to be all "nixluva" on us and tell us what we want to hear.
Amare is "working with trainers? On what, helping his kids with their homework?

In his defense you don't know what he is being asked. We know Amare is out for at least 2-3 weeks.
The rampant speculation re. Stoudamire's knee is annoying. Lets wait till actual long-term bad news is reported to start all the doomsday cries. It may happen it may not. Right now, he is out two to three weeks. That is it. People acting like the Knicks are hiding something re. Amar'e are absurd.

Yeah that was speculated with Lin as well and theorists were saying it was so the Knicks would sell out the playoffs. Come on now. Knicks sell out every night.
The level of panic from some Knicks fans is unreal. I'm saddened that so many Knick fans who were once proud are now whinny, superstitious and scared the worst will always happen. SCREW THAT!!! We've got a bunch of guys coming back and as the year moves along and this team get's more guys back it's gonna be one of the best teams we've seen in a decade or more. We need to let the Amar'e situation play out. No sense in losing our minds about things we don't know and can't control. My guess is that the Cyst was a result of the Bone Bruise. It burst on it's own and so there's no need to open him up. Unless there's some new info on this saying he'll need surgery, i'm not gonna worry about it.

Maybe he is consulting with the doctors who told him to add 20 pounds last year during the lockout (being that he could not talk to team docs).
His back was blowing out before the off-season Knicks Doctors got to him first and/or neglected him to the degree he may have been steered Suns doctors way....Take your pick
(I'll qualify this and state the NBA put a strict rule in place for teams to have no contact with any NBA players under contract. I understand this to be team officials from any team, if Doctors are included)
If he's consulting the same Doctors who contributed to his back going Hernia do we want them talking to him about his knee since there isn't 100% vested interests? This doesn't bother me he's going to those familiar with his situation but it does raise concern since his recovery timeline has changed.
Don't look now Grant Hill is already injured with the Clippers was pretty much Health free in Phx past 3yrs yrs.
So maybe just maybe your Ace of Heart doesn't beat my 2 of Spades here.... I'm out of hearts bruh?
huh?
And the results are in:
GREENBURGH, N.Y. — The timetable for Amar’e Stoudemire’s return to the Knicks remained unclear Saturday. But Dr. Thomas Carter, whom Stoudemire consulted for a second opinion on the ruptured cyst in his left knee, mainly agreed with the Knicks’ medical staff: Stoudemire should be healthy by roughly the end of November. Carter’s assessment of Stoudemire’s knee matched most of what the Knicks thought in terms of the severity of the injury and how long it would take to heal, said Happy Walters, Stoudemire’s agent. But Walters used the phrase “several more weeks” in describing what Carter felt should be the appropriate length of Stoudemire’s rehabilitation. The Knicks initially said Stoudemire would return to the team within two to three weeks.
In the past, the Knicks have recommended that players seek second opinions from personal doctors when they have been injured. A team spokesman said Stoudemire chose to have Carter look at his knee on his own.
“He is going to continue rehab and hope to come back sooner than later,” Walters said of Stoudemire in an e-mail.
Walters also attempted to calm worried Knicks fans through his Twitter account.
“To all of the Knicks fans sending me messages ... Stoudemire will be fine,” Walter wrote. “He’s working with team trainers. No one wants to be out there after working all summer on his game more than Stoudemire.”
Stoudemire, who is entering his 11th season, has had knee problems throughout his career, and he missed action during the preseason with a bruise on his left knee.

Knicks do a heck of a job of stalling. 4 weeks sounds a lot better than 8 weeks

I see no evidence of panicing - just realism. We got about two-thirds of one good season from Amare and that's probably all we'll get.

And now there are reports citing December return....Woodson sounds totally unsure, which isn't really A.S.A.P. in terms of how Happy responded. Amar'e ruptured cyst on Oct 19th and bruised his knee in practice about 8-9 days prior to.
So if he returns in December that's essentially a 2mo rehab/recovery from normal knee collisions that take place in practice league wide.
Amar'e dude you're bench player my man sorry. Melo either plays lots of minutes at power forward or we have to trade for a power forward.
Knicks need to dump Amare for ANYTHING.
Having him in and out of the starting lineup for ANOTHER season is only messing with the team chemistry. If Amare is willing to play the 6th man role off the bench fine. Otherwise he needs to go.

I can't believe his contract in uninsured...I still smh at this. Makes him near impossible to trade.

Good luck in finding a player who never gets injured! Maybe we could coax A.C. Green out of retirement...
