Here's also the major beauty of Rockets situation. Since they will be "under the cap" for the next 2 yrs any deal they execute at this point "does not have to match Dollar for Dollar"(assuming this rule is still in place).
So they could realistically trade Patrick Patterson/Royce White/future 1rst for Josh Smith. I'm not saying this is a fair offer or Hawks would agree to it, I'm just saying this could work under the current CBA rules.
They'd be looking at
Lin($8.3mil)
Harden($14.5mil)
Parsons($1mil)
J.Smoove($12mil ext)
Asik($8.3mil)
Jones($1.6mil)
Morris($3.1mil)
Montie($1.4mil)
Enough space to sign a significant Free agent in 2yrs if they pulled off such a trade this year. This leads me to believe Morey wants to get another deal done but he won't STARFUDGE his team in the process.
Harden is much younger than Melo was when we gave him 60MM over three. Melo like Amare is way overpaid. Are the rockets stupid, maybe, they certainly overpaid. Especially after giving up Lowry and dragic.
But if you're saying it as a Knicks fan after we have a guy with one knee 100MM, amnestied a guy on a one year deal and gave up four guys and two picks to max out a guy that hasn't young anything. So the Knicks are in line to grab the 4/5 most likely the 5 I would say most GMs are clueless.
the Rockets sure do love to overpay

Part of the poison pill third year that was reported was the Rockets cap hit would be 8 mil per year because they were under the cap. I wonder if the Harden contract changes that.
By year 3 Lins 8mil will be considered a bargain. Gallo makes $8mil

Gallo is making 9.4 per this year and will be averaging 10.5 per over the next four years...

Thats some big talk from a guy who didnt step up when it mattered most. Lin also said he was ready to be the leader so it should be interesting to see who delivers and who doesn't.
Harden has all the tools to be a very dominant SG. Issue is can he consistently produce with defenses locked onto him.
Harden has skills, no doubt. But there is a big difference between having skills and being a leader. Considering how he came up short when it mattered most, it wasn't a smart move to talk about his leadership skills. He would have been better off focusing on how he was ready to do what it takes to win without bringing up leadership. Plenty of time to prove that.

I think that may have been an internal or local thing because Lin said he was the leader before Harden got there..I think he was just letting it be known who is top dog...

You're right, Lin said it well before Harden was traded, not trying to give the impression that they said it simultaneously. Still it will be interesting to see who backs it up.

Exactly Lin 3 full seasons from now will be a huge bargain at $8mil

That's assuming his play is worth more than 8 mil per year...
Well Harden and Lin look like they've been playing with each other for at least a couple seasons. The crazy thing is they haven't had a FULL TRAINING CAMP yet. Just imagine the things they'll be able to accomplish next year when they do.

They are playing Detroit.
They look really good but Detroit isnt a barometer for anything. Detroit SUCKS.
Philly looks impressive...Handling Denver easily...Gallo out this game...
Lin playing well..Passing well..he was gambling in the first quarter letting his guy go by him then try for the steal...Well maybe he was't just (letting) his guy go by him...

Have no desire to watch Philly until Bynum comes back.

Philly looks a lot like Denver with many guys at the same talent plateau...They are bringing lots of guys at you but they are better shooters than Denver...Bynum will slow them down..
Harden is a BAD man. Making it look easy.

The optimism just oozes out of your pores when talking about any team that doesn't have Knicks across the front of their jersey....
