We have the 7th best and I still believe we are built for a longer postseason run if we are playing our best

Denver can't beat good teams in the west in a seven game series. Those guys will melt under pressure in the playoffs, nobody is use to taking the last shot. You all will see and understand again why you need a legit go to guy in the association in a seven game series.

YOu're so smart and good at predicting the future, maybe you should buy some lottery tickets!!!

Justvwon 100 bucks on the powerball. 1 number shy of $10 Gran damn!

Of course. We are in the East after all.

Don't worry, nobody is taking anything away from the knicks by discussing Denver.

Knicks are winning the games they are supposed to and thats a very good sign.

Denver last two games are without Lawson and chandler. Forget the box score, you have to see there game to understand.

For a team that was bad on the road they have turned that around and are 15 game win streak. Thats impressive as hell in its own right!

What does it mean for knick fans? Nothing.

What does it mean for basketball fans? Maybe there are other ways to build a team. Maybe they are looking to add that closer/star at some point which takes them over the top. With assets/picks maybe instead of building around a star, you build without it and when opportunity presents itself (Like Harden) you build with the type of player that fits your team.

If knicks wanted Melo thats cool, but it took two years to build a team around him that makes sense. That included MDA as the wrong coach for melo.

Regarding MDA, that Laker team had big problems before he got there! Now they are building leads and not keeping them. Sometimes holding them accountable is taking it to the press. Its not like anybody can't see whats going on. Nothing wrong with a coach being frustrated by his team publicly, not every team has a "Minister of propaganda" like the knicks!

I agree the east is weaker but we still have a better chance as small as it is than denver to go all the way

All the way to the finals? Yes, we have a significantly better chance than they do since the east is really weak.

All the way to a title. I dont see Denver getting past the 2nd rd nevermind the ecf. Whether they are in the east or west

Neither will we.... the difference they have a chance to be perennial semis and build towards an ECF in the nearer future, maybe even possibly a Finals... than we do.

We're the new age Atlanta Hawks at Best or the old Nuggets at Worst....neither to be thrilled about. At the end of the post season, fans will either be blaming...

When you win 15gms in a row and have the best record in the league next to the Heat since the first month of the season and remain in the Top 5 SOS and have pretty much all year.... then you're built just about as good as any team for a run in the post-season.

Nuggets ranked 4th in SOS

Knicks ranked 27th in SOS

This speaks volumes as to which team could be a mirage and which team could be an evident demonstration of reality although finality yet not beheld

gunsnewing wrote:All the way to a title. I dont see Denver getting past the 2nd rd nevermind the ecf. Whether they are in the east or west

We'd have to go through 2 and they'd have to go through 3 or 4 teams that are around or above .700 to get a title. They're the better team but we probably do have a slightly higher chance of a title.

Papabear Says

I wish they would just make a Denver blog and put it some place else except on this site. Hey I wish Denver the best I wish that we can meet them in the championship game. If you ask the coach of Denver who was the best player you ever coach bet he would say Melo As a matter of fact he already said it.

Denver definitely has a tougher path to the Finals by virtue of playing in the West.

Knicks really have to be healthy and the threes have to fall. I don't think the East is as awful as people make it out to be, but the teams that could have challenged the Heat have been beaten up by injury. Meanwhile the Heat are at full strength. The game is a lot easier to play when guys stay healthy.

The conferences are as imbalanced as ever. Look at the teams records vs. west and east teams here:
http://espn.go.com/nba/standings/_/type/...
Miami is the only east team with a good record against the west but seven teams in the west are above .600 against the east. Almost every west team is above .500 against the east (11 of 15). The Knicks would probably be a little above .500 and in the 6th or 7th seed if they were in the west.

How soon people forget that Pat Riley used to use the press to scold his team and so did Phil Jackson. It's only cuz some people hate on MDA that there is any negative angle put on this move.

This Knicks team has a very good chance to advance to the Finals is they get healthy. We've seen this Knicks team play well against top teams in this league. That still doesn't mean this was the best path for building this team we could've taken. We'll see in the end which method is more desirable by the results. We were headed towards what Denver has now. People forget that this team was actually above .500 when we traded for Melo. The Knicks were 28-26 and likely lost a few games as the team was mentally shaken by the trade drama. Who knows what would've happened if the Knicks had taken a different path from that point on. I'm not saying you don't take Melo, but the way they gave up so much youth and picks etc rather than wait and see what would happen in the summer, made it a harder path forward. Just read how Karl felt after the trade:

When asked about the players from New York he will soon have on his roster, Karl said:

"I think they play exciting basketball. They are exciting young players."

"How we rebuild our team and construct it, there are going to be some tough moments," Karl said. "But I think it will be fun to see how fast this team will come together, how it will grow up and how fast it can prove itself to be a playoff caliber team.

"My hope and desire is to continue to be a playoff team."

Now we have a team with a good record, but an uncertain future. Clearly these old players we've added aren't part of any future we have. Perhaps KMart, but it's hard to see how we can depend on the others being part of the plan going forward. No one knows how this team is gonna look next year. Heck we don't even know who's gonna be there in the playoffs this year.

And that probably doesn't even account for schedule strength or does it? Denver can beat Memphis in the playoffs, not sure hey can handle San An or OKC. But San An needs to stay healthy (big if) - OKC has shown they can lose some close games. I wouldn't count Denver out yet.

In the East we won't beat the Heat - just don't see it happening. We have about 15 - 25% chance against them and the Bulls. We maybe able to take out Indy in 6-7 games (60% chance). I am not yet sure we will beat the Celts even w/o Rondo their defense is insane and our offense relies on cheerios.

Denver does not necessarily have a tougher route. It depends on seeding just like everything else

1-8 plays 4-5
2-7 plays 3-6

Denver has to beat 2 of Spurs/Clips/OKC(most likeliest of contenders) that's it...same scenario we have to beat 2 of Pacers/Heat/Bulls(most likeliest of contenders assuming Rose returns)

MaTT4281 wrote:I still enjoy D'Antoni's post-game bluntness.

Mike D’Antoni delivered a postgame rant after the Los Angeles Lakers blew an 18-point lead and lost to the Washington Wizards on Friday.

"This is a good team that just for whatever reason can't collectively mentally get stimulated to [play hard] every time," D'Antoni said. "I told them today, we put our hands in [the huddle], and you guys have probably seen it, we say, 'Championship,' and go out [on the floor]. That's laughable. Championship? You got to be kidding me. Nobody understands the importance of every possession offensively and defensively. Every time they got to come out with some kind of determination to be a good basketball team, and [until] then, we're just, we're fooling ourselves. Right now, that's what we're doing. We're just making a 'sham-mockery' out of it."

The Lakers went to Kobe Bryant down the stretch, but in the final two minutes, Bryant missed four of the five jumpers he took, including an attempt that would have tied the game as time expired.

"I can't explain it, but every time we get up 16 [points], it's like, 'Well, we're really good and we don't have to play hard,' and we start messing with the game,” D’Antoni said. “You start messing with not moving the ball. You start messing with, 'I'm just going to go one-on-one every time.' You start messing with the basketball gods, and they get you.

"That ball will roll around and go in for [the opponent] and it will roll around and go out for us because we're messing with the game. If we don't change that, obviously we won't make the playoffs, but if we do, we'll get blown out in the playoffs. You can't be a fairly good team or even a good team without passing the basketball, without understanding what we're doing defensively and honing in and doing it. You can't do it. You can't do it. It's impossible."

Via Dave McMenamin/ESPNLosAngeles

I am not a fan of his bluntness. He seperates himself from his team and doesn't take ownership for the losses. He coaches these guys. If they aren't playing right call time out and coach. Maybe you even have a guy sit. He is blunt with the media but he doesn't or can't communicate to his team what needs to be done. I know in ny some said that for most of his tenure he had players that just wouldn't listen and play right. Now he has four future hall of famers on his team and he is saying the same sh@t. Do your job and shut your mouth and you wont have to be the smug guy with the quick quip to compensate for your faults.

WHen you actually watch Laker games you can see that they are well coached and know what they're doing on both ends. That's how they get out to big leads, but they give up those leads when they get full of themselves and get lazy. That's what MDA is talking about. Hey how about the team full of VETS actually play like the Pros they are supposed to be and earn the money they get paid? You really think it's the coach that necessarily is the sole one responsible for players actually doing what the coach is directing them to do. At some point it's up to the players to actually follow thru. Your bias against MDA is sickening. He said what needed to be said cuz it's true. Unless you actually have watched every game like I have, I doubt you really know what's been going on with the Lakers. Everything he said is true.

These players certainly know what they should be doing at this point. Playing selfish ball and not really digging in on D is not acceptable. You think MDA is not on the bench saying just what they need to do? It's on the players too. They have the ability to defend better and they certainly have the talent to run the offense right and not play lazy BB. They got up big and relaxed. MDA called timely time outs but the Lakers simply didn't respect the Wiz.

http://www.sheridanhoops.com/2013/03/24/...

I wonder why he didn't say what needed to be said at the 3:40 mark?

Suns came back and are down by one.
