Knicks · Carmelo Anthony's MVP Season and the New York Knicks (page 11)

I can ask to stop reaching.. it is ok to say he didn't do much last night.. pretty simple... he wasn't good.. end of story.... and yea gallo took a bad shot last night, I know you can't help yourself from bringing him up, but I believe he will get to live another day and help denver win many games..
see how easy that is. you can do it... go ahead... you can say the knicks won despite melo not playing worth a darn... go ahead.. believe me, it will liberate you!

This guy and his double standards (makes excuses for Lin's crap shooting then kills Melo for crap shooting). LMAO! Your trolling is not even funny. Do better!

Last year, when having the type of game he had last night, Melo would continue to shoot and try to find his offense. Last night, Melo realized his shot was off and, unlike last year, did things other than score the ball. People are giving Melo credit for maturing and not saying hes the reason we won the game...
tkf wrote:Gallo is hurt and a report said he might not play last night. That seems to be a trend. Melo grabbed 12 rebounds last night and was going against some tough d that was focused on him. Its hard to stay out of this comparing nonsense but for perspective Gallo has equaled or surpassed 12 rebounds once in his career. I was worried about Melo going up against a guy with the girth that Blair has but he did fine. His passing and d were great last night. He is the best player on the floor for the Knicks whenever he is out there. Teams game plan for him. Gallo at this point is probably Denver's fourth best player.GodNa7ion wrote:Yo TKF all we're saying is Carmelo knew his shot wasn't falling so he did the little things to help us win. This is Sekou's list butOkay so from the list I made and the one provided in this link...there are likely 10+ other players in the mix. I figure few would have had Brandon Jennings in their top 10 or even Tony Parker
Interesting
I know its someone's opinion and its impossible to formulate this award especially in an era where stats>eye test but hey who knows right now
I don't have a problem that it's Sekou's list per say, although it might hold a little more weight if it came from someone like Aldridge. I understand Smith is a major contributor to the site, so the list has validity.
I pointed out the 10+ potentially being in contention because earlier in this thread when I listed that about 10 other players were currently having a MVP caliber season it was met as if the thought was absurd. This is the reason some discussions take on the tone they do. If we could see more objectivity in posts it would add more positively towards discussion.

I REALLY am confused as to why all the gallo-melo direct comparisons... I stated all along I want more than gallo back, I want chandler, moz, and all of the picks, and cap space back... why do we keep comparing their games? So what you are telling me, the standard for melo is now gallo? I wanted lebron why not compare melo to those standards?
of course you won't because it serves the agenda to make this only about gallo and in this trade we gave up more than that... which can't merely be measured by stats alone...

well when we had a healthy amare some may dissagree with that, but again what does gallo positioning on denver have to do with anything.. this is where you lose me again.. he was very productive here, as was chandler, and the picks remain to be seen.... you are basing this trade off of one person... it doesn't make sense.... and carmelo being the knicks best player as you say is a major cause of concern for me, if our goal is to win it all..

When he got his tech the Grizz went on a 19-1 run.
Im not slamming him looking for the receipt to return him to Denver for a refund but I hope when the glass ceiling comes calling again he don't bump his head and lose it.
No doubt his frustration was justified but thats not a reason to derail your cool and subsequently the game. I get what Woody was trying to do was play Gasol with Melos quickness but it was not to be. He was getting beat and Gasol was fundamentally able to keep Melo behind him.
I don't mind Woody trying or even melo having a tough time with it. Easy in hindsight to go back and fan site it, but losing the cool was very uncool and for that I hope they address the leadership factor. Grizz lead was too hard to come back from.
Memphis got us good and thats ok. I don't expect every nite to be good ones.
Melo gets a pass because its just a blip in the course of a season. He regressed a bit and they got into his head. For the Knicks to be a playoff performer and melo break the cast of his playoff reputation cracking into diva mode at a crucial moment won't work.
Only game 6, no need to panic. The kids been great so far. Its a teaching moment.

I said this even when Amar'e was the main man here. These guys and their talents are more self contained than anything else.
In spite of....GTFOH....Did you not see how the Spurs game-planned to take Melo ut of the game? Did you not see them sending two guys his way and semi-zoning up on the opposite side? Even Sean Elliot, the Spurs color commentator, said as much....
There were moments and have been moments in all the games we've played where he's seen a couple guys come at him. He's primarily guarded by the other team's best defender with decisions when to double him if at all. I didn't see the first half of last night's game but saw the second half and sorry he was not in constant double cover 2 coverage....not even close. There's also this part of the game(all 6 we've played) you have to watch and it's called what the team does when he's not even on the floor.
Melo was 1 of only 3 players with a negative +/- the rest were all positive last night
We've also seen Felton and J.R. the last few games in particular make individual plays(several of them) by themselves or involving others not named Melo
Kidd is knocking down 3's not because of Melo, it's because of our spread pick and roll offense with guys moving the ball finding the open man
Listen, nobody is saying that Melo has a hand in every single point we score and every single defensive stop we make. Bottom line, he is the leading scorer and rebounder on the team with the best record in the NBA at this point. If this continues into the the second half of the season, then the MVP talks will be legit. Doesn't mean he's going to win it, but he will definitely be in the discussion.
BTW, its hard to make an argument when you only watch part of a game.

using that criteria is it fair to say that anyone of the grizzlies front court players can be considered mvp candidates now that they have the best record in the league?
just asking..

Before I give an answer, let me say that last night was only the 2nd time I've watched the Grizz this year, so I cant really rely strictly on the eye-test to say who has had the biggest impact on that team night-in night-out.
To use my full criteria, I'm saying that Melo is the best player on a team that is tied for the best record. My criteria also mentioned that Melo, at this point, is leading the team in RBS and PTS. Just looking at the numbers and from what I saw last night, the only player that you could remotely mention is Zach Randolph. To me, he's the Grizz most important player. They have a really, really good team, but without him, any aspirations of finishing the year with the top record in the west would be mute. With him, they have a shot. Similar to Melo on the Knicks. Without him, any aspirations of finishing in the top 2-3 records in the east wouldn't be a possibility.
(PS,I only mention regular season because the MVP votes only count towards regular season performance)

Of course its too early to say who is gonna win MVP. My only point is, its a FAN being a FAN. The thread starter is excited about the way the team is playing and deservedly so. Nothing wrong with being excited I just think sometimes some people here don't let fans be fans. And you are correct about Lebron. He's the best player of this generation so its his to lose every year....

TKF wants his lover back, and Melo was the reason his made of glass ass was shipped out.seriously man, enough with the childish remarks, kind of disrespectful, I never approached you in such a manner, and I expect the same.... if you have nothing of value to offer take it somewhere else....
I am asking the mods, to seriously take a look at these types of troll post.. they are baiting and are made only to disrupt... way too often are these personal attacks happening and they have nothing to do with basketball. I ask that this please be addressed.. this has nothing to do with differences in opinions about the team... this is blatant, and out of line..
Whats the difference between that and you saying that those who disagree with you are drinking the "melo kool-aid"?
