Knicks · How many Knicks fans would trade Carmelo for Gallinari, Chandler and Mosgov right now? (page 10)

This is false on both ends.
I'm glad Melo is here, but leBron is a gamechanger.
LeBron took less to the finals than what the Knicks had last year.

Lebron is a 3 time MVP. Look, you like Melo, we get it. He's a great scorer, but he's no Lebron.

Lebron, Jordan, Melo --> they're all comparable.

I'm a big Melo fan but give me a break. Melo is a very good player who will probably make the Hall of Fame when he retires; Lebron is historically great and will be discussed with Jordan, Magic, Bird and the other all time great players. And that's not a knock on Melo, Lebron blows everyone away and is easily the best player since Jordan retired; that includes Shaq, Kobe, Duncan and anyone else you want to name.

I wouldn't say Lebron is easily the best player. Maybe more talented but those 3 guys you mentioned have strong cases as being better players than him. 1 championship won and a couple seasons of MVPs doesn't place him there.
Matter of fact it's real simple....
If you rank your All-Time list of greatest players does Lebron finish ahead of Shaq/Kobe/Duncan?

Honestly, i don't think his title ranks him that much higher than he is already viewed.
Only multiple rings could move him up.

He's already better than Kobe as far as I'm concerned; Kobe only won 1 MVP and I would argue that it should have gone to KG or CP3 that year, Lebron has won 3 and will win more before he's done; Kobe's won 5 championships, sure, but he was the second best player for 3 of them and I could argue that he was the second best player on all 5 teams, Lebron has never been the second best player on his team; finally, if you swapped Kobe and Lebron I believe LA is at least as good and they probably win several more championships. On the other hand, we've already seen what Kobe plays like and what his teams are like when he doesn't have one of the best post players in the league playing next to him so those Cleveland teams probably aren't going anywhere and he most likely ends up with the same kind of reputation as Tracy McGrady.
As for Shaq and Duncan, Lebron might not be at their levels quite yet but I believe he'll get there. At worst, I think Lebron will go down as the 4th best player of all time behind MJ, Magic, and Bird. In all likelihood though, I think there will be a lot of arguments in bars across the country about who the greatest player of all time is, Jordan or Lebron.

good question.... you can argue he finishes behind all three, and I have a ton of respect for lebrons game..... but... those guys IMO rank ahead of him...

I won't argue that, it is simple for me.. MJ... mike said something that really got my attention.. He said what will seperate him from the others is that he never lost in the finals..6-0, Magic, Bird, hakeem, shaq, all lost in the finals. now Duncan I think hasn't lost in the finals, but I don't think he is on MJ's level and he doesn't have 6 rings as well...

Sometimes the mental aspect of paying where you want is just huge. Think of Vince Carter, etc.
If Gallo and Chandler didn't want to be there then why did they resign there?
Well, Chandler actually came out before the trade and said he wouldn't want to play in Denver, something about the cold. And Gallo clearly wanted to be here. They have agents and it was a business decision is my guess. We can only go by what was said and our observations.

If anything, Gallo's game should have flourished in the high octane offense that Denver runs...Saying that his game has nose-dived simply because he's feeling home-sick is a poor excuse....
He should have flourished, I agree. That is what I am saying, what happened? I am not saying homesick, you are. I am saying he wanted to be here in NY and that was obvious. He should be getting better and not worse. He definitely has his moments there, but I just don't see that he became what he could have. So, something is up...
How could anyone NOT want to trade Melo for any pile of steaming crap?
Sheehit, I'd trade Melo and his 25ppg or so for any three NBDL rejects right this second!!! Who wants to score baskets, anyway? Scoring points is always soooooooooooooo overrated. I seen statistics that show 9 times out of 10, that the team that scores the least points all the time, but has a better FG%, wins it all anyway!
Why, I'd trade Melo if only to get MDA to back out of his 4 year with the Lakers, to get Gallo back, to get the Mayor back, to get Moz back, and to finish next to last in the basement so we can build a team the PROPER way, by stockpiling high first rounders for a few years and creating CAP SPACE!!! Maybe even Walsh would come back! Maybe...just maybe...[could I even dream] Lin would demand a trade to come back home!!!
Who the FUHUCK wants to watch playoff basketball games anyway???
1. We would have solid bench young players.
2. We would have enough cap space to get a legit starter/star like Howard.
3. Gallo is proven to be solid player
4. We would still be getting veteran players that will play here for minimum
5. Kidd would be training Lin instead of playing along side with Felton.
6. Amar'e would be awesome on being the main star
7. We would still be way under the cap to rebuild a dynasty
8. We might have been able to get Phil to coach.
There's a lot of ifs. You're writing this thread to try to convince we're a championship team now? Stop sucking on your mama titties and grow up.

Bingo... great post.... you pretty much nailed it. We gave up a lot of options. And really didn't end up with a True star player... we could have kept the kids, and still signed a jason kidd, marcus camby,etc....
look at guys like Bynum, dwight and Cp3 moving teams... we lost our flexibility and a chance to get that true franchise talent or be in position to add multiple high end players...
water under the bridge I guess.. this has been beaten to death of course , but as you said.. typical troll thread...
You can put Lebron on anyteam in the league he gets them to the playoffs.

I can agree with this line of thinking. I don't believe D'AnToni would have been this desperate looking for a backup point. Probably no Novak or J.R. although at least 1 fit D'AToni's bill. Regardless the principle remains such players could have been acquired if needed had the trade not taken place.
The 2 questions marks are....
does Amar'e break down(probably not absolute)
does Gallo and/or Will get injured(probably not absolute)
is Shumpert healthy (possibly)
What would offset those potential negative situations is the depth and flexibility to acquire players to fill in.

This post is very incorrect. We would get a legit star other than Melo? Who? These guys aren't waiting until free agency anymore. Vets like Kidd may not have come here if they didn't feel this team had a legit chance to compete. And Lin would not be here because we would have Felton. We would also not be under the salary cap because players like Gallo and Chandler would have needed to be paid. Saying these things is like saying we would have won the lottery and drafted a instant star player. People here are living in the "best case scenario world" assuming these things would have happened if we never traded for Melo. Dolan has not been a good owner, but i won't hold this against him just because of a 5% chance of some of these things coming true if he didn't make the trade. Very high likelood we would be overpaying role players and being well over the cap if we never got Melo. We would not be 4-0 right now, we would just be a .500 ball club with a chance to get to the playoffs, but not do anything when we get there. But everyone would be happy because we have draft picks that can hopefully turn into decent players right? And cap space that can hopefully turn into another star player right? SMH.

Teams do trade for and sign superstars, you know? If we'd been building right from the start, there's no reason why we wouldn't have been able to pull off any trades or signings to get at least one of Dwight, Lebron, Wade, Howard, or Paul.

Deron/Harden/Bynum/Josh Smith/Iggy/K-Mart/Bogut/Mayo/Beasley/Lowry/Johnson/Pau/Jefferson/Milsap
All of these guys were gettable or will be gettable in the very immediate future. I'm not saying all of these players would have been an attractive option but nevertheless look at all the potential combination of players.

Arguing coherently against MeloHate is a waste of keyboard skills, but really, that's why we're all here, right?
1) Solid bench young players. <----this isn't even a sentence, let alone having anything truly meaningful to say. This is what NY sports has always been all about attaining: solid young bench players.
2) ...get legit starter/star like Howard <-----Yes, Melo is neither a star or a legit starter. Maybe Melo would be a solid bench player in the rest of the league. SMH
3) Gallo is proven solid player <------We're into our third SEASON of Waiting for Gallo. But who's counting. We have all the time in the Melohate world, right?
4) Still get veteran players for minimum <-------Yes, in your world, sub and barely .500 teams with a broken down Stat attract all sorts of people. Mostly miscreant fans like yourself.
5) Kidd training Lin instead of Felton<-------And Kidd being a professional trainer to your manlove protege is what's best for him, instead of hitting threes and getting dimes in real games, right? You'd rather he make your little god into a better player than what he's doing now for the whole team (including Felton and JR, right?)
6) Amare awesome as main star <----- does this have any basis in any other reality that he was breaking down trying to fill this role and your Melohate?
7) Cap space building dynasties <------yes this happens each and everyday in the NBA.
8) Phil coaches <-------- yes, this dream happens when all 7 other points happen, and right before we all fart rainbows and just before Gallo gets inducted into the HOF, and the Mayor leads the league in scoring and Moz is DPOY and....
