I'm glad everyone is really starting to realize it. It is scary that people did not want to trade Mozgov for Melo.
That trade is a thing of the past. As a franchise moving forward, it's obvious that we murded Denver during the trade.
* We replaced a very soft European player in Gallo with one of the greatest players in the world in Carmelo Anthony at the SF position.
* We've since replaced a Russian Project in Mozgov with a championship winning defensive force in Tyson Chandler at the Center position.
* We've since replaced an overrated Wildson Chandler as our 6th man off the bench with one of (if not) the strongest role player in the game today in J.R Smith. Wilson isn't half the talent/player that J.R has become.
* Raymond Felton has since returned to the Mecca, and better than ever.
* Eddy Curry has since been replaced by Kurt Thomas.
* A career zero in Anthony Randolph has since been replaced by Rasheed Wallace.
You can go on and on. We've built a TRUE CONTENDER around our Center Piece and/or Franchise Leader in CARMELO ANTHONY.
Before the drafting of Melo? The Nuggets missed the playoffs during 7 or 8 consecutive seasons. Since the drafting of Melo? They've yet to miss the playoffs. Not a coincidence either. Melo changed the culture of that franchise. Melo was their heart. Their franchise leader. Their Center Piece. They lost alot when Melo forced his way out of town. Now, during the first full season without Melo in Denver? They're on the verge of missing the postseaon (currently as the 10th seed) and also feature a losing record.
These naysaying critics refuse to admit it, but Melo is our greatest Knick since Patrick Ewing. Key word being 'since'. Not even Ewing could score the rock like Melo. And I loved Ewing for all his worth, but Melo is a phenom scorer. Could go down as the greatest scorer in Franchise history. Melo can score the rock from anywhere on the basketball court. The man can't be contained, let alone stopped in regards to scoring.
Great post NYKMentality.
I'd also like to add that what makes the whole thing work so good is the fact that Melo and Woodson are just right for eachother. Melo needs someone to bring him down to earth and push him even further, and Woodson needs an MVP-caliber player on top of his defensive attitude and ball movement.
Ofcourse adding several veterans helped a great deal in that regard as well.
Bottom line ... without that trade you don't get Tyson, Kidd, Jr, or Sheed coming out of retirement.
As long as you have someone to build a team around you're going to go deep, how deep depends on the coaching staff and the players around that main player.
Right now, I'm more than happy and confident in all 3 of those things.

Excellent point.
Kidd and Wallace are no idiots.
They weren't going to come here to rebound Gallinari's bricks.

Right! Not only have these guys stated that one of their reasons for coming was Melo and the direction of the organization, but it's just easier to build around a superstar or star .. whatever you guys want to call Melo. Hell, I could go even further and say who was the one lobbying for us to draft shumpert when a lot of people thought we should've went another way??? We have upgraded every position .. how you mad at that? Me and hate don't get a long whatsoever.

But like fish said, your moves and direction are different once that trade doesn't happen..
Then you focus on aquiring MDA type players, with more cap flex, and draft picks which you trade for establish talent.
There always the "what if" factor, people use those two words like they mean anything other then a fantasy..

It was obvious that D'Antoni and Melo were not going to thrive together but I think Grunwald wanted to give D'Antoni a chance. However he was going to build the team in a more traditional way and went for Tyson and not a point that would have helped his coach. I think Grunwald had an idea what a team that featured Carmelo needed to be succesful. If D'Antoni could have made things work he would still be the coach. He was given a chance but decided he couldn't make it work. I applaud his decision as I don't think the Knicks make the playoffs and maybe Woodson doesn't get his chance.

If by MDA type players you mean Nash, Amare, Johnson, Marion, Bell & Diaw in their prime then I agree. We might've made the ECF!

Or a place for people to find as many negatives as they can with a team with the best record in the east.
On a knick forum.
To say that we are Dolan minions because the moves of the last 2 years are paying off is clumsy and childish.

Perhaps you and Nalod can go get a room some somewhere and come back after a few more losses when you feel better.

Whatever, mda for what ever it's worth, made the playoffs with a half decent roster when amare got here, not sure what you wanted him to do with al harrington duhon jj, and the rest of those rental players.
maybe we we get AI here instead of denver, deron and lin as knicks,
deron
AI
gallo
Amare
Tyson
there's all kind of things that could have happen, your so thinking MDA is not a good coach, yet he landed a top NBA head coaching job without so much as picking up a phone..

This is what losing for a decade has done to some fans.

Things are the best they have been in NY in at least a decade. Not sure why the search for negatives is happening now.

When you realize giving up our future in Danilo freaking Gallinari and Timofey Mozgov (is he still even in the NBA?) was as epic of a disastrous failure as Portland passing up on Michael with the first pick, it's a tough pill to swallow.
fishmike wrote:the forum has just become a chat room for Dolan's minions
THere are some very funny things being written. Mob mentality.
This is so true.
To build a team that has a chance to contend, you have to have that superstar caliber player FIRST.
Then you build what you need around that player.
That's how all the team that win have done it.
fishmike wrote:the forum has just become a chat room for Dolan's minions
Aren't we all "Dolan's minions" since we support the team he owns?
