Has it really been that big of a flaw? The Knicks are stacked down low, no one is turning the ball over, and everyone is nailing threes... I mean an upgrade at the position would be nice but you can't have it all. When Shumpert gets back I think things will look a lot better
as for JR, I'm a huge fan of what he provides... I cna't believe people have an issue with him when he's playing for a pretty reasonable contract

offensively or defensively?

5-19 is cause for issue

The step back jumper against Charlotte was a thing of beauty.
No it was not!
It was just another feast or famine JR insanity-shot.
Exactly; he shot 6-16 overall, including 1 of 9 from 3 pt range. If he had a decent shooting night, there wouldn't have even been a need for that final shot.
Just showing he went 1-9 is cute but that does not tell the whole story. What kind of shots were they? Were they contested, in transition, off screen, and etc. Were they early in the shot clock or late in the shot clock? Is a shot bad because it is missed? I don't think so.
are you really saying that he takes good shots or at least good for him?
I am saying some may be good but some may be bad I would have to look at the game again. I do not however base a bad shot on if its made or not. Does he make me scratch my head a lot yes.

understood
JR takes BAD shots
no need to watch that game or any game. I judge his makes as bad shots most often.

I'm not denying that... he's got to play more disciplined but I do think he's a net contributor. He plays hard and some nights he is a wild card that can win a game for you. I think he's making under $3 million a year... I'd find a place for him at that price
mrKnickShot wrote:SupremeCommander wrote:When Shumpert gets back I think things will look a lot better

obviously defensively. Possibly offensively, as long as he really only initiates in transition and flies to the rim like Chandler. if he does his dribble, dribble chuck thing then he hurts the offense. But his defense will make the backcourt better, because he'll slow down the other team's SG, who more likely than not is better than who the Knicks are playing right now

he is a bargain. For many reasons.
His defense and rebounding, matchups ...
Woody should ride him when he is hot - and when he is hot, he is great.
Woody should sit him when he is not - since when he is not, he is awful!
It is early and I believe/hope that Woody has a plan here.

ok - can't argue with that.
He is so HIGHLY overrated offensively by knick fans.
He is in the bottom 20 pct of SG's offensively.

Exactly. He's very good on defense but a liability on offense, and probably a net zero impact overall. There's no positive way to spin an SG getting 9 PPG on 9 shots a game. He may improve from his rookie season in the long-run but I wouldn't expect that this year.
Not this year but he will improve. He has a nice looking shot and his knees kept him from driving more last year
If his knees stop giving him problems, it's reasonable to expect him to improve.
If woody had gone straight to the police, this would never had happened.

What?
I think he should have gone to the FBI or CIA. Maybe even the UN!

Top team in the East, undefeated at home. Best team any Knick fan has ever seen or heard since the 70's. The thing this thread is good for, is to invite other fans to spread their negative cancer. Regardless of this team blowing out Miami twice by 20, winning tough games while shooting under 40%....we continue to create negative threads like this? What do you want, Dantoni back? Unbelievable.....
I guess most people can't function throughout the day, without hating something.....
Why is having flaw negative? Our SG position is fair but could certainly be looked at as a weak spot of a good team. Instead of having Ray Felton and JR Smith shoot too much--why not try out James White at SG for 10-15 minutes to break things up? When we played Chicago who was our best + and - player? James White. We have been able to get by with low TO's but at some point if we let these guys continue to shoot 9-30 it will bite us. My take is break the minutes up and add White play JR less and demand a little more efficiency from him. Felton is also carrying too much load with FGA's.
exactly. felton should NEVER shoot 30 times a game?
If you take out the one game vs Washington in the last TEN games JR Smith is shooting 28% on an avg of 12.4 ATTEMPTS per game. That is way way too high for that production. That is our sour point on the team--why not address it by moving shots to other players until JR can shoot back in the 40's?
JR has been bad lately, but right now we need his threat of scoring. NBA he has earned the right to not be giving open shots no matter what kind of slump he is in, when Amare and Shumps get back, then I think you will see Coach getting JR to find his teammates more when he is off.
Right now it's basically Melo, then JR and then Felton for our offense. We don't just want him on that wall, we need him on that wall.
Just to into the numbers a little more--when JR has shot over 40% we have won every game by an average of 16 points 7 times. Its up to JR and the team to get him back there.

This is exactly what im talking about....Real knick fans and nba fans know who JR is and all his flaws. This thread only opens the door for more haters to chime in instead of thinking about 15-5....stat and shump coming back in mid season form. Kidd and tyson playing like they want another championship.....we have a real coach now and one of the best gms. No need for knick fans to micro manage jr smiths shot selection. What I do like is his defensive intencity. And his ability to run point and provide scoring off the bench. We are so deep....and have the right coach....theres no need to lose sleep over jr smith......really knick fans. Have we been bad for that long that we still have to nick pick everything? Even if he makes a shot...its a bad shot? Wow...move on already...unless u can tell me something we all dont know already....
