Knicks · Kobe talks about Melo (page 16)

There are several problems with this statement.
1. You can not say that he needs a refresher in a psychology "Course" and make a statement regarding self-reflection, when you really don't fully examine this subject or it's studies until about your second full year as a psych major... and this is coming from a psych major.
2. You say Carmelo lack the "ability for self-reflection and introspection" well, really there is no need to use both words, but okay. And the first flaw in your argument is his constant acknowledgement of "GOD", if you've taken a Philosophy and religion class along with that psychology class, you will know that ... the first rule in finding "GOD" is finding yourself, which is a direct cause for self reflection.
Also his ability to point out his flaws and the change in his game this year is called "self correct", which is brought upon "self reflection".
3. Exactly, what are Kobe limitations, and if these limitations have led him to 5 championships, and potentially the second greatest sg to play the game, is this really a valid argument?
4. I agree, Kobe is an a**hole but so are other greats. Michael Jordan was the biggest one!
5. Take away Kobe statements, you still have other players stating the same exact thing. Maybe Jason Kidd, Chris Mullen and Steve Kerr are more credible in your eyes. I would take what they say to the "bank" as well.
6. See, the problem with making statements about someone's character without knowing them can lead to a lot of misunderstanding ... It works both ways, I can "judge" you and say that you have a problem with self-reflection because of your inability to forgive the trade is directly linked to the inability to self reflect.

You trying to play the margins again, in one breath stating Melo's history means what we're seeing now just masks inherent, uncorrectable flaws, in the next laying out what he needs to do to legitimize his superstar status.
Which is it please?

Your gold standard for the type of player you value is Paul Pierce. Now tell me, do you think Pierce would have the 1 ring he does without Garnett, and/or Allen?
I'll help you. He would not.
So if for sake of discussion we cancel out Shaq for Garnett, score is Kobe 2, Paul 0.
Correct?

I think maybe you need a refresher course in being a pompous a**. Try separating,Kobe the person from Kobe the basketball player. Kobe the basketball player was talking about Melo the basketball player. And how do you know all the mumbo jumbo that your talking about above? Have you sat down with Kobe and /or Melo and talked to them to draw these assumptions in their personalities? Are you a psychologist? He has upped his d, effort and focus and is communicating with his teammates. If he is the best matchup for the other teams best player put him on that guy but don't put the most dynamic offensive player in the nba in a position where he is going to be compromised by fouls just because.Knickoftime wrote:dk7th wrote:historically the stats have shown that melo is much closer to a zero-sum player and his playoff record underscores this. fool's gold players will get exposed.Sir, I'd caution you against the "fool's gold" argument. This has led you astray in the past.
The Heat were "fool's gold" to you once.
i maintained that the heat were not going to win their first year together because wade and lebron were redundant and would not be able to play with each other in the half court. they succeeded by their defense leading to turnovers until they met a superior team in the mavs, who kept the ball moving and took care of the ball. great coaching by carlisle and an mvp performance by dirk. be honest the heat offense that first year was stinko. flummoxed by the zone of all things but that's what happens when you lack steady jumpshooting.
last year they figured it some of it out to their credit, allowing lebron to control more of the action-- wade subsumed his ego beautifully.
this season they are keeping track of hockey assists as a component of their approach.
the key for melo is to make a supreme effort on the defensive end, demanding the most difficult assignment, whether he is scoring or not.
compromised by fouls? if you play with supreme effort fouls will not be an issue. granted he is not as athletic as lebron so i am not expecting to see that level. but everyone sees that he is strong and if he is playing bigger players all we need from him is fronting and three-quartering with alacrity.

knicks don't have shaq so 3 titles are impossible let alone 5. and i am not going to conflate this knick team's potential success and best chance at reaching the finals with melo being here. not with those 90s knick teams with ewing. you can if you want. he hasn't done enough in the playoffs to warrant that.
meanwhile jason kidd came to an underachieving nets squad and led them to two championship finals. granted he is not quite the same player today but has transformed himself and he remains incredibly effective. who, then, is more vital to the knicks?

You consistently have issue with confusing circumstance and causality.
Knicks, under Woodson, without Kidd, were 18-6.
Knicks, under Woodson, with Kidd are 17-5 (and 3-1 in his absence, the 1 loss being the overtime loss in Brooklyn).
Now let's start over:
who, then, is more vital to the knicks?
Support a empirical case with evidence please suggesting its Jason Kidd.
