pretty much is.. think about it.. despite the knicks nice start, players of the month for november were.. lebron and Durant.. what a surprise.. huh? but hey, I heard carmelo was in the "conversation"..
It doesn't really matter for me if Melo's in the conversation or not, or if he's top 3 or top 15.
He's balling and leading our #1 place 16-5 team. He's playing "the right way". Isn't that all that matters to us as Knicks fans?
Like I said in prior posts, Ewing was my favorite Knick and MElo's NBA accomplishments dont sniff Ewing's jock. Back when the FAN was just getting popular and it was the only sports talk on the radio I remember tons of callers used to argue Ewing's MVP status. For me it was just win. Clearly some here would prefer to cling to other things. Shockingly the forum was once a good discussion place for hoops before it became ultimateMelo.comKnicks off the best start like ever, so of course their best player is going to be in the MVP discussion. Right now its probably KD, Lebron, CP3 then Duncan and Melo about a tie for 4th. Is it close? Always is, but after 80 games Melo will be an afterthought.
Billups first year in Denver Melo mad adjustments, had his best year, played "the right way" and Nuggets when to WCF. He had better stats that year and still finished like 6th.
He's a scorer. Enjoy his scoring ;)
Ewing is irrelevant to this discussion. I don't see how Ewing's play in the 90's is some bar or qualifier to Melo's winning an MVP in 2013. I have not heard anyone that actually votes for the award say "well Ewing never won the award therefore MELO is banned from winning the award so long as he wears a Knick jersey!!!!!"
For Melo to be in the discussion he need to go out and guard and lock down the opposition's best scoring wing. If he's doing that while scoring 25ppg he will be an MVP candidate.
Knicks and Melo have had a great start. Seasons, games and titles arent won in the first qtr., and Melo has NEVER been a legit or serious MVP candidate in the past (Ewing was) so its not like this is the year he gets over the hump. Lets win some playoff games first!
Ewing's career achievements have no bearing on whether Melo will win an MVP in 2013. You people continue to come up with creative reasons as to why Melo can't possibly win. Please show me where one person that actually has a vote has stated Melo can't possibly win MVP because Ewing has never won MVP.
Ewing also never WON NBA DPOY but somehow Tyson managed to win one.
Melo winning NBA MVP has no bearing on whether he is a better or worse player than EWING. MELO is not required to surpass EWING's career in order to win MVP. These imaginary hurdles you people continue to come up with are outlandish.
MVP goes to the best player on one of the top 2 or 4 teams.
The Knicks presently have the best record in the East and 3rd best record in the league. Melo is playing outlandishly well. Melo, according to Stephen A. Smith and Skip (people with votes) is the NBA MVP as of today!
2009-10 Nuggets through 21 games: 16-5
2012-13 KNicks thought 21 games: 16-509 Melo: 28ppg 6.5rebs 3.2 assists .458 FG%
12 Melo: 27ppg 6.5rebs 2 aassists .457 FG%09 Nuggets finished winning their division and having home court in round one where they lost to Jazz in 6 games.
Melo finished 6th in MVP voting that year. 6th.
Hows that $100 bet looking now folks?
Again... happy Knicks having a great season and great start. Happy Melo is playing so well and a big reason for those wins.
Realistic MVP candidate? History would certainly show otherwise, but again... feel free to express your opinions every day in a new thread saying the same thing.
All these things have happened before.
Well, this just goes to show that everything is not black in white and although individual stats do play a role in the MVP race that's not the only factor. So let's be fair. A few reason Melo came in 6th that year.
Lebron, Kobe and Dwight - Their teams all had better records.
Kevin Durant - lead the league in scoring and also played all 82 games. (that year carmelo only played 69 games)
D. Wade - although voted 1 slot ahead of Melo, had a worst record, fewer points, but had no other stars and was the only other NBA champion besides Kobe.
This year:
You don't have Dwight or D.Wade in the discussion, and I don't think they will be.Kobe is not there right now, and I'm not sure if he will be due to him playing along side of Dwight and Nash, also I don't see them finishing with a better record.
so now you have Durant and Miami....Both teams and players will finish strong and will be in the top 2.
So who is third?
If the season ended right now spots 1/2 would be Lebron and KD. 3rd would probably by CP3, with Duncan and Melo also getting consideration.
All Im saying is Melo has been EXACTLY in this spot before and finished 6th, and even the most supportive minions would admit his scoring goes down a notch when Amare returns. Also history shows Melo misses games.
So if Melo is muddy 3rd right now playing best BB of his career hows he going to win? Its not happening. He's not getting better this year or doing more or winning all NBA defense (Duncan, CP3, Lebron all likely will)

Also, I'll take what the official NBA.COM has to say over a negative Melo critic (such as yourself). Your right... Melo may not be a frontrunner but is DEFINATLY in the race. Possible even 3rd. Kinda like Gary Johnson was 'in the race'
Presidential candidate Party Home state Popular vote
Barack Obama Democratic Illinois 65,593,974 50.97%
Mitt Romney Republican Massachusetts 60,859,673 47.29%
Gary Johnson Libertarian New Mexico 1,273,997 0.99%
So yea.. kinda like that. I guess 3rd is in the discussion

I am saying Melo is a front-runner based on what SKIP BAYLESS and STEPHEN A. SMITH stated yesterday. They both said MELO is in the lead and would get their vote for MVP as of yesterday. This can easily change and Melo can fall on his face for a few months. Who knows. I am simply stating, based upon comments from people with votes, that Melo appears to be the front-runner (in the lead). I also believe Lupica has made similar comments.
If you look at my posts, in this thread, you'd see that I have said that I believe the voting will come down to Melo or Durant assuming both teams keep their current pace (record-wise) and both players continue to play well. No one on the Spurs will garner MVP attention (Duncan is playing great though). LeBron will have to exceed his previous years accomplishments and team record in order to win which the Heat are not presently doing. CP3's numbers are not good enough at this time although Nash has won it with numbers that were not jaw-dropping (imo).
My question is why are you so adamant about Melo not being in the conversation and/or not being a legitimate candidate? Why would you be on a Knick fan-board and be appalled and shocked and disgusted and referring to Knick fans on a Knick board as Melo / Dolan minions because they believe Melo could win MVP, a sentiment backed by sportswriters aka voters.
Anji wrote:Melo getting MVP talk from Kobe, saying that it isn't even a question he is in the conversation, makes alot of Knick fans happy. Deal with it.
Well said.

Melo threads on ultimateknicks.com? The nerve of some people.
Especially Lupica he is the worst. He knows as much about todays nba as Barkley, francesa and kay. Barkley said on the Lupica show that Shumpert didn't play defense and Lupica didn't know to correct him
fishmike wrote:Hersports85 wrote:Duncan missed a lot of time last year, and he's having an incredible year. He's probably the best defensive big in the NBA right now, his rebounding is up and might be close to career highs in blocked shots. Your right... no way he sustains it over 82 games, but my critera was if the season ended right now where things would stand. Look at the record and the #s and Duncan is right there. Scoring 18ppg is more than Nash scored I believe. If you watch 5 minutes of Spurs games you will see hes playing off the charts right now.fishmike wrote:Hersports85 wrote:all fair and good points. Stop it already. It's Lebron, KD, and everyone else.
pretty much is.. think about it.. despite the knicks nice start, players of the month for november were.. lebron and Durant.. what a surprise.. huh? but hey, I heard carmelo was in the "conversation"..
He's not getting better this year or doing more or winning all NBA defense (Duncan, CP3, Lebron all likely will)
I'll give you CP3, but no way Duncan. He's currently ranked 23rd in scoring and if you look at last year, even though they had the best record in the Western Conference he was ranked 14th. I'm not sure how those who hold votes will judge him on taking games off, which i think takes him out of the running. We all know the Spurs do not care as much about the Reg Season, therefore, Duncan will not be playing MVP basketball until playoffs.
Saying Melo is in race right now? Fine.. but a legit candidate is silly talk. He's not that kind of player and never has been, 82 games is a lot different than 20
As of today Duncan is not in the conversation. He's having a good year. But I'm saying, which Pop says will happen again, and we all know it will throughout the course of the year, is that Duncan will sit out of some games for rest, which will take him out of the running. Those who are able to vote has already stated that it's a negative. That's what I meant as taking games off. For instance, no reason in hell Toney Parker should be behind Deron williams.

It's pretty clear he doesn't like Melo and never will. Arguing with him isn't going to change a thing

Well Fishyboy, you have to look no further than the thread title to see the difference between 2009 and this season.
What kind of Normal fans cares if Melo is getting MVP press??? Shouldn't it Minion, Normal fans and sticksuptheasses??? Because what Kind of stick do you have to have up your ass to fight too joy about your own team???
Dont love the Knicks any less that MElo isnt an MVP, has never been an MVP and will never be an MVP. Wouldnt make me love them more if he did win it either.
And how do you know so much about having a stick in the ass? Clearly you have some experience.
Hell... I usually stink at gamepicker because I just cant pick the KNicks to lose, even when I know they are out gunned. Probably the reason this year I am doing so well.
Again, your right to think what ever want about your wife, but I'm not going set you right about her either.
Kind of like Shallow Hal, you looking like George Costanza in this equation bro.You can love the knicks more or less or realistically, I couldn't careless. But your need to set the Minions right is sicken, what other reason could you have than having a stick up your ass about Melo?
Melo getting MVP talk from Kobe, saying that it isn't even a question he is in the conversation, makes alot of Knick fans happy. Deal with it.
You can believe Melo is jesus Christ. Its your opinion. But if you post it in a public forum your going to get rebuttles. Im sorry. Thats what a forum is for.
Didnt Jeremy Lin play like an MVP for like 20 games? Wasnt that an exciting stretch of games? Did every Knick fan embrace him here? Sorry If I am Knick fan. I love the team, players come and go.
Why cant I just enjoy the season and the team without minions stuffing their mascots greatness down my throat (or in your case a stick in your ass)?
Truth about Melo is he's fine. Great scorer, all star player. I would enjoy him more also except his minions make any acknowleding the good he's done insufferable.
Also please dont post on the Jason Kidd is MVP thread. Thats making some Knick fans happy and if you dispute that notion its sickening.

Right but like I said. It's 21 games in and their opinions will change on a whim the second the Knicks lose 2 in a row. Their votes count at the end of the year not after 21 games
