Knicks · Mr. Dolan, for all the crap you get, you DESERVE IT FULLY. Everyone else on the staff, THANK YOU. (page 2)

So be it if this thread gets locked. I just want to state how sick it is for anyone to even trying to post in public without the slightest dignity or intelligence (yes, talking to you joec. I think you work for the man, don't deny it, you're making this way obvious, and wipe off that white stuff on the corner of your lips please). Jimmy Dolan does not deserve your praise, or anyone else. When I read your thread, I heard a slight gag reflex from your post. So ignorant and so wrong in so many ways. Stop that crap right now. With all due respect JamesLin, but this could be used as an example of an agenda thread and/or post. The harping over an owner during losing ways followed by the ignoring of an owner's success during our winning ways. When reading, just seems like a hypocritical view point. If as Knick fans we can't give our own owner (some) credit during times in which we're seeing winning basketball, then how can any sports owner be given (any type of) credit for championship rings and/or winning ways? Sometimes you have to learn to lose before you know how to win. As an owner, sometimes it takes a while in regards to building a true championship contender. It took Dolan some time to piece together all of these winning pieces, but he's pieced them together (the present doesn't lie). Dolan used D'Antoni as a bridge to a coach such as Woodson.
We have our superstar in Melo (who Dolan wouldn't let slip away from (the now) Brooklyn Nets). Even went against our GM's call in order to assure Melo becomes New York's franchise player moving forward. The Center team of our currently 18-5 New York Knicks. Dolan traded for his guy. We have our head coach in which our players respond to (who Dolan hired in Mike Woodson). We also have a true contending team (what Dolan spent his money on).
We lost as a franchise under Dolan throught the 2000's and as a fan base? I believe we all gave Dolan the business. Myself included. But Dolan deserves some credit here, in this instance he does. He never quit and walked away from our franchise. Losing times have came and gone, but he fought his way through them. He kept a strong vision of landing us plenty of talent (and he's landed us that talent). We're currently featuring one of the deepest teams in franchise history. LeBron fell through the roof and we've recovered stronger than ever under Dolan.
Dolan tried everything, just to win. He even signed Mike D'Antoni as a head coach to build our franchise and/or team around. Say what you say about coach MDA, but Dolan made the right move with the hiring of D'Antoni. A flashy coach known for an exciting brand of Western Conference basketball. Dolan couldn't pass that offer up. Look at our roster pre D'Antoni when compared to post D'Antoni. Look at what Woodson has been given under both Dolan and D'Antoni. Amar'e Stoudemire, Felton has returned, Carmelo Anthony, Iman Shumpert, J.R Smith, Steve Novak and Tyson Chandler were aqquired under Mike D'Antoni ala Dolan's choice during our rebuilding years. Not championship, but rebuilding years. That's what Dolan envisioned... A roster full of talent. We've even landed the likes of Jason Kidd, Pablo Prigioni, Ronnie Brewer, Kurt Thomas, Rasheed Wallace and Marcus Camby under coach Woodson.
As an owner? He allows his front office the opportunity to run a team. He keeps his nose out of it unless it's a move as big as Carmelo Anthony. He gave Stoudemire a crazy contract just so players such as Melo and Kidd would one day dream of playing here. It's easy to blame the owner and/or ignore the owner because it's the easy way out of not reading both sides of the story. He also deserves credit for allowing our front office to manage, our coache(s) to coach and for our players to play.
OMG, your narrative plays out like an obscure cable TV drama!
why your stuff gets passed over by some is your repeating yourself over and over highlighting how great all the moves are THIS YEAR and somehow all the lost years are wiped away as we already won something.
Lets be real, Donating the arena for a nite when NHL hockey is non existant and there is extra capacity is smart business move. Open up the arena to create an event where your employees can all get paid because the union demands they get paid anyway during a strike, and the venders have a nite to stay busy. It gets a big TV audience to see the MSG branding in a competitive market that includes the old meadowlands, Newark, Brooklyn and to a lessor extend Nassau Coliseum.
Is it evil? No, its a good thing, Is it praise worthy? Lets just say there is nothing bad and it does raise money.
Was it Dolans Idea? Was Sheed Dolans Idea? Kidd? Brewer? I don't think praising Dolan for this years roster like he was the Exec constructing is anywhere close to the truth. Did DOlan get Lin? Did he play him? Did Dolan scout Mozgov? Was he responsible for all of Isiah idiocy?
And lets rewind two years ago, Melo had yet to be a team player and his coach (karl) has a long history of banging his head on the floor in frustration knowing Melo has the potential to be an "Superstar" (as defined as making others around him better) but had yet to exhibit this. Dolan wanted a star and understands the power of star power. How do I know? Look at "im coming home" and the shirt sales upon his arrival. We all know Melo can play but we all understood the power of the trade in reality (Realty is not common amung some fans) for the deal to pan out Melo had to elevate into a player he had yet to be.
SO Dolan should get credit for Melo getting in shape, buying into another coach's scheme, and trusting teammates.
Lets credit Woodson, the GM and Maybe Melos life coach for holding him to a higher standard. How about just credit MElo for his elevation and maturity?
Dolan? Im not raging on him but the teams success is not on his shoulders.
Lets see how the rest of the season pans out and how far we go.
My gut says the little ass hole did all this out of BKN fear and perhaps we are a bit lucky that its all coming together so nice.
Does that make it any less enjoyable? not really, but im not into unicorns and heroic stories about Dolan and how his leadership knew that Priggy would fit in so well and it was Ronnie instead of The Corey Brewer experience that would be so good!
And if you depict Melo's dream of playing home again one more time like some Ninja warrior living in solitude for 20 years seeking his revenge and redemption Im going to vomit on my keyboard!
These comic book narrative really does discredit even your romantic notions!
Why you getting all emotional about Dolan and calling him an azzhole? Thought the Knicks were just entertainment to you and nothing more. Further....so Dolan gets all the balme when we lose, but none of the credit when we win? Your screen Name is a mockery of Dolan...so therefore there is no reason to take your posts on the subject as anything but biased.
I posted a while ago that owners are only as good as the people they hire. The same goes for Dolan. He may have finally found the correct formula in Grunwald and Woodson.
StraightShot wrote:It always amazes me the lengths to which some will go to slam the Knicks' owner. Even when he does something right, they feel they must slam him and deny him any credit. That means it is all about an agenda and not at all about rooting for a sports team or evaluating the situation in any objective way.But that's okay. Dolan doesn't need the OP's or anyone's "Sympathy" and is not looking for it. He does deserve some credit though. You slammed him for the very decisions that have brought this team greatness (Signing Carmelo, letting Jeremy Lin walk). If he was responsible for those decisions when you thought they were bad decisions, he's still responsible now that it turns out they were good decisions.
You don't have to have sympathy or even like Jimmy, but you have to give him credit for building a good management team and being a big part of this season's success. He has grown tremendously as a human being these past few years and that's good news for fans.
We have acheived greatness? Oh my, I didn't get the memo. Calm down and pass the bong!
Dolan doesn't have to be all that knowledgeable about basketball, he doesn't have to be all that smart in business or all that great at managing the franchise day to day. He just needs to be good at picking the guy who does it. His first two hires sucked to no end.... but his last two were a step in the right direction.
I feel bad for the OP.... a bitter heart will eat you up from the inside. Life is too short, my man... way too short.

George learned the hard way after many years of being an idiot.
Maybe even Jimmy can learn ... he has long road to get there though

I don't worry about the response. I consider the source. I used to post pretty heavily here but this board has become over run with a certain style of poster(s) that makes posting here unenjoyable. They like to take their little hit and run posts and think they "burned" someone with a good going down on or sipping the kool aid or whatever else clever little one liner that they have been using since the 7th grade.
In all seriousness, is it really any coincidence the JamesLin hasn't come back and posted in his thread since I asked for the evidence that he drew his little conclusion from? I never had any doubts because other than being able to read, I differ from JamesLin in the fact I know what my post said.

Joec, chicken syhts will always be here. What dolan did was the right thing and you giving him props is justified.Jameslin hasnt responded to your question, like others to mine, let it go. It is what it is joec, you were right and thats all that matters
The fact is that Dolan knew he was not a basketball guy and TRIED to bring in basketball minds to run the show. He first reached out to Magic who, after turning him down SUGGESTED Isiah and, Dolan trusting Magic's basketball acumen signed (and unfortunately fell in love with) Isiah.
The fact is that the guys rarely if ever interferes with his GM's and has completely opened his wallet, not the simply fill the seats but to try to win it all. He has had some miserable failures but, dude's heart and head has imo always been in the best place.
People like to complain about MSG's media policy but, I don't have a problem with it at all. People are so spoiled with the "all access" thing these days, spoiled by inside looks and reality TV. They/We think we are entitled to MORE AND MORE AND MORE. The info that is put out and shared if more than amply for even a rabid fan like myself. Guys won't be satisfied until they can see the Sweat on Melo's balls in high definition.

Um...I for one am happy right now.....
In regards to basketball, little Dr. Buss is a lot like Jimmy was when he took over. Dolan, first thing KNEW the Knicks would make money. He also wanted to do things different and better than his father. I don't know yet if our current situation is do to luck or skill on his part.
I do know that Jimmy always viewed the Knicks as his toy so to speak. Think about the Rangers. His name is barely associated with them when you think of them. So he kind of ddoes it two different ways between the two sports. I know that some players in hockey wanted him in on the negotiations personally, so maybe he turned the corner. Or maybe they think they can get over on him. Who knows.
Regardless, the Sandy Concert was true class and I gotta admit, before knowing it was him who organized it, I was pretty impressed. I'm not any less impressed knowing it was him. Ball don't lie, but ball isn't everything.
Money does have its privileges!
Its not a bad thing he did by any stretch.

During the NBA lockout, he was mentioned (more than once) as one of the few voices of reason.

No, I didn't come back because I got the flu and hit me hard. I had to take days off work and shiver in my bed. Evidence? Easy, 12 years of his operations destroyed Knicks, destroyed Phil Jackson to even come coach (TWICE) and went to the Lakers. He single-handed picked great staff members like Scott Layden, Isiah Thomas. Do I need to make the long list of damages these two made to our team? He never speaks in public about the team he inherited from his dad Charles Dolan and even argues with his dad about how he manages the team. Finally the ONE good thing he did, hiring Donnie Walsh and listened to him to rebuild the franchise, Donnie was doing a good job and BAM, he flew to Denver to get Carmelo and reversed everything Donnie did. Coaches retired, fired, and so were GMs like Donnie. You might argue well what about this year? Hell, he got lucky, just like how we got lucky with Jeremy Lin running up and down making the nba world frenzy in February. He's the ONLY owner that commissioner David Stern and Hall of Famer Phil Jackson PUBLICLY claimed to be not so bright up in the head. THE ONLY one, now how embarrassing is that? He's also the ONLY OWNER in this world to be #1 spender (over $100 million) on getting old fading overpriced players and NOT EVEN MAKE IT TO THE PLAYOFF. I don't need to say anymore, but when all other fans laugh at your team for being so immature and stupid and retarded and ignorant and you had to say, 'hey man, I'm still a Knicks fan', it becomes personal after 12 years. Ewing didn't even get a proper goodbye when Jimmy Dolan took over. So seriously, do you really want to know why I'm pissed at your post? It's very personal because apparently you either are a bandwagon fan, or a cruel inconsiderate human being for trying to make Jimmy Dolan look good just because he spent chump change from his pocket to do what ANYONE will and should do if they had the money. It's the same if you said Hitler were at least a good military strategist/leader to a bunch of Jews. It gets personal. I read your post several times before I posted mine, because your post really really ticked me off, and I don't think you're under-educated based on your posts, but probably just pure ignorant.
Gotta big old expensive renovation and Rangers leave a lot of empty dates with the lock out.
Knicks are in "win mode" now and Im fine with that because im not looking down the road. Neither are a lot of others but I worry the team is constructed out of fear that they cannot fall behind the Nets. Dolanites sing his praise now with hopes up so very high but I got a weary eye.
Its been a pleasant surprise thus far and enjoying it but a great start does not mean Dolan has changed his stripes. I think he wants to win but has trapped the team between profitability and roster construction.

I just had a thought about our older guys and their contracts. Say a guy like Marcus or even Sheed goes down with a season ending injury, ...isn't it likely they would retire. If so, would the money owed them come right off the cap (i.e.: picked up by insurance?)
If so, that would alleviate some of my concern going forward.

Insurance reduces the financial exposure to the team, but it stays on the cap. A player won't retire as they won't get paid. THey have to be injured for a year and apparent won't be returning soon to get "cap relief" from the league.
Even if he has some assets he will gamble it all away.
Even gamblers have some lucky stretches... this what keeps them going.
I will give him a credit if this team will win a chip. And the credit will be for persistent gambling no matter what.

Again, this was in response to a thread created to thank Dolan for his charitable work for Hurricane Sandy victims. I don't know of anyone on this site that doesn't have issues with how Dolan has done things. However attacking another poster and posting the junk you chose to post has no place here in my opinion. Also, while I couldn't pick out Joe from a line up of one he has posted here for a long time and has always been respectful of others. While you post of being a long time fan you joined here during a 5 week period when the Knicks added the most new fans in decades. Not saying that you new to being a fan but calling out another fan as a bandwagoner when you joined here when there actually was a bandwagon is a bit off in my opinion.

Lets not get personal. If someone has personal connection (real/imaginate) with Jim Dolan it's OK.
If somebody cannot connect with Jimmy because he want to clean his heands afterwars it is also OK.
If he helps the people in need its great but it has nothing to do with Knicks bbal club.

No, I understand your post fully. Read your title. This is a forum about basketball. It bleeds you work for Jimmy Dolan. Sorry I went off on you, but seriously, Jimmy Dolan is one of the worst sports owner in history, ask any expert that knows Jimmy Dolan's history, seriously. I don't mind others trying to justify Jimmy Dolan's moves or what not and we can all debate about it, but putting it in your title as if he's a saint, is just down right wrong. I had to go off on that because if others, and I know a few of you guys adore Jimmy Dolan, got encouraged to post more of that crap on new topics, then it's really over, and someone, if not me, will really get ticked off. Just trying to stop what you're practicing. Yes, what he did for charity was good, but he got all his money from his dad, and he wastes money like no tomorrow. Do you really think he poured his heart out and spent lots of time organizing this? He's too busy making MSG money. There's nothing great about a filthy rich never-had-to-earn-his-money-from-get-go (he started as a musician/actor wannabe) putting his small check to charity to make himself look 'good'. It is all publicity because he has horrible ones as an owner.
It's very personal to me because I despise him for wasting my own money and wasting my own time defending the team I adored since 4 years old to others here in Los Angeles (don't live in NY anymore). If you just titled "Thanks Jimmy Dolan for making this charity happen", then it's no big deal. But you didn't, and your context has nothing to do with basketball which makes it even worse. I hope you understand why some of us Knicks fans will take that as an insult, or the least, irritated by your post/title. That's all. We all are passionate bloody Knicks fans, but let's be considerate and not assume everything's alright. I still believe you're doing this on purpose to make Jimmy Dolan look good while working for his organization somewhere, but that's just my theory.
And for all you other fans, I don't think I'm entitled to anything. I'm just a Knicks fan taking this game too seriously since 4 years old. I just want to see my team win championship once before I die. Jimmy Dolan made sure it won't happen in his own hands. That's why sooooooo many experts REFUSE to come coach/play for Knicks under Jimmy, and will only do so for the money. See the trend of past 12 years? That's all it is (H20, etc). This year was all pure luck and if Dolan deserved any credit, it's that he hired Grunwald, but I don't know if it really was his work or some other influences, but giving him benefit of the doubt, he hired the right man that did a good job fixing our team with what little he was handed.
