WOW. I mean WOW. Hollywood could not have written a screenplay with more twists and turns. For those that have not read the DeadSpin report, it's real long, take about half hour to an hour to read and digest the material:

To those that read the whole piece or heard about the news, Manti Te'o gotta be on the "down low" right? Made up the whole dead girlfriend bit to garner support for the Heisman, but also to hide his secret life right? Truly truly bizarre...

It's one of the weirdest stories I've ever heard. I don't think that it would be evidence that he's secretly gay; there are way too many loose ends and verifiable facts to make it a good cover story. In the article, a friend of Ronaiah Tuiasosopo says he thinks it was done for publicity and that seems the most likely answer to me. Te'o's excuse, that he was tricked into an online relationship, doesn't seem true to me at all. Both him and his father made statements about meeting this fake woman in person on multiple occasions which obviously doesn't jive with this being an internet scam. Just weird, weird, weird.

The other thing I'm wondering is does this affect his draft stock? The mock drafts I've seen all have him going just outside the top 10 picks; if he were to fall to my Giants at 19 I wouldn't complain about picking him.

Lol In retrospect, he was probably better off going with the ole 'I have a girlfriend, but she lives in Canada line." I wouldn't mind if the Giants grabbed him, but he seems a little bit too flaky at this point to invest first round loot in at this point. I believe in Jerry Reese tho and if he's willing to take the gamble, than I'm all for it.

If he's gay, then he's kinda in deep water. You know with his church and with pro male sports being kinda taboo about homosexuality. That's the "noble" ending to this.

Publicity stunt to strengthen draft position? That's kinda the douchey, hypocritical ending to this.

The plot thickens. Apparently a fullback on the Arizona Cardinals said he met his "dead girlfriend":

Reagan Mauia, an Arizona Cardinals fullback, said he believes Kekua existed because he met her in person when he and other Polynesian teammates and Pittsburgh Steelers star Troy Polamaluwent to do charity work in American Samoa in June 2011. “This was before her and Manti,” Mauia said Wednesday evening. “I don’t think Manti was even in the picture, but she and I became good friends. We would talk off and on, just checking up on each other kind of thing. I am close to her family. When she was going through the loss of her father, I was — I offered a comforting shoulder and just someone to bounce her emotions off. That was just from meeting her in Samoa.” Mauia said Tuiasosopo — whom Mauia believes is Kekua’s cousin — introduced the two. After the initial meeting, Mauia said he met her at an “after-party” for all of the athletes involved in the camp. “She was tall,” he said. “Volleyball-type of physique. She was athletic, tall, beautiful. Long hair. Polynesian. She looked like a model … ” He said it is his understanding that Kekua’s mother is operating her Twitter account. He said he’d never met her mother. When told by a reporter that she apparently might not have existed, Mauia said: “No, she is real.”

Talk about your cover up! This is one deep twisted scandal. Like JesseDark said, "Catfish" like. Either Manti Te'o hatched this elaborate plot with several Hawaiian and Samoan athletes/ex athletes along with some officials from Notre Dame to bolster his Heisman campaign, bolster his draft stock, and reap the benefits of his NFL career.

Or he's just in the closet and afraid to come out due to his being Mormon and Notre Dame's profile as a strict Catholic university.

Mormon or not, how could you be in a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship with someone you've never met, not even once? Can't wait for the next bit of news.

Shouldn't this guy have term papers to be worrying about instead of being lead actor in some gridiron football sympathy porn Heisman PR campaign? What is this dude's major, Fiction Writing?

Add this story to the list of reasons why I can't get it up for college sports. Save shenanigans like these for the pro game. "Amateur" academic athletics shouldn't be shady like this.

So he was duped? I don't follow football... I never heard of this dude until I read a NY Times article about this the other day. (Typical New York liberal.) NY Times scooped by a Gawker blog, ha. The Grey Lady is still falling for 419 scams?

Sum this up story for me... is half of Samoa in on the gag?

I truly believe there are much better things to do and wonder about. Excuse me, I'm off to watch martin's last vid post on the Alba thread for the 15,000th time. Now that's reality!

Saw the story but didn't really get into the details.

This guy could be so naive and in La La land its possible.

In the rare case that he was really duped, the guy doesn't know how to work the webcam on his laptop, facetime with his iPhone or iPad, or do a google video chat with this person he supposedly loves?

My 70 year old Aunt knows how to facetime with her iPhone, I find it hard to believe a 21 year old college student that tweets, is on facebook and instagram, doesn't know how to Skype chat.

Should anyone really care about this. Has this really affected your life in any way. I mean we get all kinds of rumors every day because of social media. You guys remember the Mile Piazza is gay rumors.
