Knicks · Do you think the Knicks should make 1-2 moves before trade deadline to shore up PF and SG? (page 2)

Knicks team is going to get exposed in the playoffs.

Knicks need to quit kidding themselves. They need another star to pair with Melo.

That fucking sucks, that a guy 2 years removed from pro ball is our savior,

this is the same thing all over again,

last year it was Baron Davis,

I don't want to hear this.

We need to dump Amar'e, I know there's no way in heck it happens but that's what you need to do if you want most bang for the buck, Amar'e can still drop 20 points per game on a team where he is the Big Kahuna, this is the last year you're trading AMar'e for his basketball value, every season after this you're dealing him for his expiring contract

The playoffs bear many heavy minutes neither Camby or Wallace has proven they can stay healthy--so how can anyone believe they will stay reliable and productive in a more intense environment? On top of which they need to be healthy in the reg season to keep rythmn--both for themselves and the team, Now Kidd is down again. i was in the camp of we might just need 1 but I think if we can somehow get two quality guys one a SG or combo and a PF if we just have to give up enders--I would do it. Take on some salary next year for this year

I agree.

Shumpert looks like he should return to form by next year. I'm VERY worried we will lose Smith this summer too.

gunsnewing @ 1/26/2013 1:53 PM
Kidd is not down. He is playing tonight. I would just sit him til Wednesday for precautionary reasons. At this rate he won't be available in the playoffs

we need a pg. lowry??

Saw they are looking to trade him. We have nothing to offer though. I'm sure another team can offer more

RonRon @ 1/26/2013 9:32 PM
I like Lowry and think he would be a huge upgrade but we don't have much asset's that Toronto would be interested in, it probably would need a 3rd team to facilitate a trade
And I would like to add small talent rather than make trade with the success/chemistry we started the season with

but 3 scenario's that we would have a shot are

1- most legit shot Toronto would consider is with Iman Shumpert and fill ins, in which I have no interest in parting with

2- JR Smith/Copeland/ fill ins *JR Smith has been on a slump since the injury to Avery Bradly but if he breaks his funk and gets back his consistant NEW JR SMITH he started the season with, we might not be able to keep him in the off season, probably would rather keep him than lose chemistry

3- Felton/fill in's/ and future picks

Felton's DEFENSE lacks speed/quickness on quicker guards *majority of starting PG's in the league*, as many PG's can easily penetrate vs him
Lack's BB IQ to set up team, constantly tries to SCORE to try to prove his value in the league, and we already have Melo and JR Smith taking those low percentage shots
He is crucial to our system/philosophy, has a very cap friendly contract, but he just isn't that good, average at best
In the end, Felton has experience/chemistry with many on the roster but I would like to add another G that has the ability to penetrate and defend with experience and some young legs

I wanted Jannero Pargo but he has signed a 10 day contract with Atlanta since Lou Williams went down
I feel he would be a good fit, is a veteran/journey man, could play a STARTING role if needed with injuries or a limited role efficiently/effectively, and penetrate/defend, shoot wide open 3's, and could be a decent 2nd string PG that we lack

Considering Felton is our only PG that lacks speed/quickness, Kidd is a SG and Pablo *3rd string PG* doesn't have much speed/quickness and ability to penetrate

I am very surprised we didn't add Martin already and a PG like Pargo when we were struggling and he was available
For anyone that doesn't want Kenyon Martin, I am sure you did not watch him play last year on the Clippers as he showed he still can contribute/defend at a high level
He is still available because he wanted more than the veteran's minimum while no team wanted to invest more than that in him

I believe simple additions with Martin and Pargo would have allowed us to maintained the 1st seed on the East and now we find ourselves battling with 4 teams with the East being very tight for play off position
Having 1st/2nd/ at least 3rd seed is VERY important for our playoff position, as we would like to avoid playing Miami/Bulls at all costs

With the age of our roster and our players consistently getting injured/coming back from injuries, it would be smart to add some insurance with some healthy/younger legs that Woodson could trust, and have the ability to DEFEND/play smart with experience

OGkush121 @ 1/27/2013 9:41 PM
I like the sound of K-mart being a possibility...We need another big because they're all so fragile apart from Tyson, and he played alongside Melo and JR at Denver so he should have some sort of understanding from the get go
CrushAlot @ 1/27/2013 9:47 PM
It sounds like Sheed might be coming back soon. I think the coaching staff and management see Sheed as a better option then anyone available.

can't it be both?
I mean they're never healthy all together

I think Tyson is wearing down from all the minutes. I would really like to know what the situation is with JOneil and the Suns. Guy like that will give you very good production in the paint and with his jumper in 15-20 minutes a night.

who could you trade and/or who do you cut?

BTW, Chandler averaging 33 minutes a game... wearing down?

I think he is. The minutes overall don't look too high, but Chandler definitely plays at different energy levels from game to game or even half to half this season. If he isn't wearing down, giving him a little bit more time to rest would at the very least allow him to play with a little bit more recklessness.

But I looked up why JOneil isn't playing the last 10 days, and I don't know how serious his condition is, but we don't need another Big with a condition.

"The health issue was an irregular heartbeat," he said. "It was scary. At 34 years old and you're having issues with your heart not beating the way it's supposed to beat and causing shortness of breath and dizziness -- it's not about basketball.

I personally feel that Thomas, White and Copeland could be cut for a decent pick up.

And I would actively try to trade Novak, Thomas and Brewer. Not saying these guys would bring a top notch big, but that is why I'm wondering about a guy like Jermaine ONeil.

I somewhat agree that those guys are expendable

Wondering what Ekpe Udoh is worth on the market now from the Bucks
With Sanders, Ilyasova, Henson, Dalembert, Gooden, I would not be surprised if they wanted some financial relief for him
However, they probably would rather trade him out West, and try to get back a young player or a pick
We could offer Copeland/Thomas/Brewer but I think Copeland's contract is guaranteed now for the rest of the year

With Monta most likely opting out, Jennings looking for a new contract in the summer, Dunleavey expiring as well, Bucks might need some cap relief as a small market team...

I agree that Tyson Chandler needs help, he is playing hurt with a bad neck for awhile already
He doesn't have a legit backup or another PF that compliments him defensively like JJ did for us last year
That play today, in the final minutes where Amare just stood there when Teague almost got an easy layup as Tyson ran out of his way to block/alter his shot with some contact to save the game could have cost us. More importantly, it reminds us what Amare is or is not DEFENSIVELY...

As for Jermaine Oneil, he is another Rasheed Wallace/Camby waiting to happen, we would never know when they would ever be available to play for us
But I do agree he would help us defensively with limited minutes, with a decent 12 footer.
I still don't understand why we have not contacted Kenyon Martin though...

Today's Burning Question: Should the Knicks consider calling up Henry Sims?

Mike Woodson said before the Hawks game on Sunday night that Rasheed Wallace could practice with the team this week.

But not only are there no guarantees of that, there would be more work ahead for Wallace to get back in basketball shape. Remember how long it took for him before the season just to join the team for a practice?

Several league sources have told ESPNNewYork.com recently that the Knicks fear Wallace could be done for the season. One said, "It's not looking good." That's because Wallace's left foot injury is a re-aggravated one from the past that likely required surgery, but the 38-year-old apparently played through it.

So all in all, it could take some time for Wallace to return, if at all. The Knicks could benefit, with age in some ways against them this season, from having a younger center off the bench for inside scoring, rebounding and defense. That would further complement the team's younger perimeter at times during games. As of now, insiders believe health could be the Knicks' biggest detriment down the road this season.

So with that being said, should the Knicks give a hard look at the 6-10 Sims, who was with the team during the preseason?

One agent who represents a Knick said, "It's a good look." Even though the D-League favors guard play, Sims has dominated. He's currently averaging 16 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 31.8 minutes for the Knicks' D-League team, the Erie BayHawks. In three of his recent games, he scored 22, 20 and then 30 points in a row, and this month, he's had 18, 12 and 10 rebounding nights, including a five-block game.

At this point, Sims' agent, Todd Eley, said there have been no talks with the Knicks about his client getting called up. Of course, that would be a big decision because the Knicks would have to cut a player first. However, if Wallace decides to walk away from the game on his own terms, that could change things.

Regardless, Sims is on the Knicks' radar. He was a front-office favorite last fall, and was close to making the team behind Chris Copeland. But with Wallace, Tyson Chandler and Marcus Camby in the big-man rotation, there wasn't a fit. In addition, Woodson has banked on experience and Sims would be a raw rookie. But several scouts have been impressed with his development lately, and they believe he'll be playing in the NBA soon.

---------------------------------

I just can't imagine Woodson playing a rookie as he has had his moments with Copeland *even though he was part of our preseason roster and while I would like some help at the position, feel Kenyon Martin would be the better fit

Mickael Gelabale
Chris Johnson

are 2 players at the forward position probably that the T-Wolves signed from the D League with 10 day contracts ending soon
They have more experience in the league, with D League, and Europe, and have greater upside
They are completely different players compared to Sims
Sim's is the traditional PF type that can hit the 12 footer, hustle points/rebounds, much like a younger Kurt Thomas
Maybe Sim's and Woodson have some experience with each other with the preseason/practice and Allan Houston see's something in him as GM of D League Erie...........

Gelabale is a shooter like Copeland but is much more mobile, quicker, can handle the ball, and I believe was part of the French team with Diaw/Parker
While Chris Johnson is just a great athlete, runs the court well, is extremely lanky, and is a poor man's version of AK47

I am impressed with both players but more with Gelabale's ability to shoot the ball and both are much better athletes with speed/quickness
Chris Johnson has been in the D League for awhile now and he is one of the more explosive/athletic players with great length
While they are not the traditional PF's I think their reach/length allow's them to play much bigger than their height

Most importantly their speed/athleticism would translate on DEFENSE, so they would not be liabilities like Novak and Copeland are at the SF position

RonRon @ 1/28/2013 7:47 PM
this could also be a sign that Tyson Chandler's neck injury could cost us to miss some time
It takes time and rest to heal the neck area, as it affects the back, and could be really serious if not treated

Tyson being the warrior that he is, has been sucking it up for awhile now, and I fear it is catching up with him
With Camby/Rasheed out, we haven't had any bodies to rely on that can give him rest and play together with him to make it easier
