It's about dumping on Melo.
I don't agree with dumping on the horse that got you here because of a bad stretch of play, even if it is a month or 8-10.
We are still at the top of the league, you would think that would earn the team the chance to right the ship when everybody get's back.
Knicks win tomorrow and the depressed go to manic mode, rinse and repeat.
Whether we dump on him now or in May when we get knocked out in the playoffs after Melo goes 11-29 whats the difference. If you think this is bad wait til May rolls around

It's not about dumping on Melo, but compared to him, Amare has shown much professionalism. He was the first one to say he'll do whatever it takes to win even though its a bench role (team meeting). And he's yet to get into conditioning to play 40 mins, but he's going to get there.
If Melo is facing zone or double teams, he simply has to pass the ball to the open man. Like Clyde says... the ball will find him. There are glimpses of this that he has shown off and on all season. The question is... why is it just glimpses. If all we are going to get is glimpses of good defense, glimpses of basketball IQ, then how is he really the best player on the team... only by offensive talent?
There is a time and place for BULLY BALL as was needed in a close game against Boston. You cannot play Bully Ball when you are down 20. Make smart plays, its not that difficult for other elite players in the league.
Would you call him an overall top 5 player in the league at this point? My gut feeling is that he was surrounded by some serious championship veterans because Woody wanted him to listen to his teammates without trying to influence him directly. With Rasheed, KT, Camby all out (KT playing sparing mins) there's no one who dares to talk to him and reign him in. I am surprised that Kidd hasn't already done this, but right now, Melo is back to Denver Melo, Iso Melo, Second round exit Melo.
first round exit Melo.
This team, including Melo, excluding Amare, is NOT playing with any poise or discipline.

thanks for answering my questions directly. i also dont recall anyone on the forum saying they're depressed. people have pretty much expressed that they are pissed off.

Yes keep this up. Every thing you post the opposite happens. You might want to post Amar'e should stay on the bench.

No sabermetrics needed here. In last 7 games, Melo is 68 of 187 since his heroic night in Orlando.
gunsnewing wrote:Remember what he said on media day? Then why must Amare come off the bench. Only to protect Melo's 29pts scoring avg? Really bad trend of Melo going for 20+ on 25+ shots lately.
How about starting Amare and having Melo honor his word about not caring if he scores less this season but getting Amare involved? Melo is struggling. Instead of forcing 25 footers on triple teams how about moving the ball?
Or how about just starting Amare and bringing Melo off the bench until he gets out of his shooting slump
Starting Melo at the 4 with Shump at 3 is not the answer Woodson is getting a little too cavalier with the starting lineups geared toward's protect Melo's 29pt avg.
Start Tyson, Amare, Melo, Shump and Felton or keep floundering on both ends to start games. Have Kurt backup Tyson for now.
Can't be losing to Sacremento and Philly if you plan on finishing with a top 2 seed.
Enough is enough.
he never had me fooled.. guys like carmelo and JR are only good soldiers under their terms.. they will be team players as long as they get their shots and things go their way.. take them out of their comfort zone and they revert back to the selfish guys they always were....

And the #s don't tell the whole story..during the nets loss he shot brick after brick and looked off a wide open novak like wasn't even on the team..melo can easily avg 7ast pg instead of shooting 30% from the field..

Strange cause I haven't seen Novak open all season

pay a little closer attention to the off the ball action, especially Novak, he's open a lot more then you think..In close games they use him as a decoy, but so many teams have played off him in the last minute (cause they know it's going to be JR or Melo) of a game..we have won some of those games, but the guy gets open with enough time to shoot if you catch him..
yea defending the Knicks down the stretch is probably the easiest thing for opposing defenses to do. Leave everyone open but Melo and JR. Scary
It's more on woodsen than anything else. He allows Melo and JR to continually crush the offense and isolate. It's fine sometimes, but.it really kills the pace of the game.
The Knicks are a pathetic bunch on their last 15 and have had to gut out wins against bad teams. The frustration with Melo is that the thing that was making him an MVP was scoring in the flow of.the game. More open shots and not forcing. Which he is reverting back. He can't be guarded when he drives. He's settling two much. Just move the ball get everyone open shots and be selfish when their are 4 minutes left in the game.
Its what separates him from Kobe and Lebron. Kobe has the skills to average a triple double if he wanted to. He can put up Lebron #'s
Melo will never be as well rounded but he increase his career assists from 3.1 to 5 if he tried. On the attention he gets alone

Remember earlier in the season (I forget which game) when Woody told the guys in the huddle they were going through Melo and Melo told Kidd they were going through him instead? Woodson needs to start trusting the team instead of 2 guys and it wouldnt hurt if Melo got that mindset back.
bring an mvp candidate off the bench? melo is in a slump. he is still a superstar. you cant have him on the bench.

Wasn't really being serious about benching Melo. Just proving the point that the Knicks should not be catering to Melo. Benching Amare so Melo preserves his 29pts scoring average. Fully expect Amare to start once Sheed is back in a week or 2

Wait but if the Knicks are benching Amare so Melo can maintain his scoring average, wouldnt they still bench him once Sheed returns?
Not so much messing up his scoring average but enabling Melo to play the hero ball he played at Oak Hill Academy, Syracuse and Denver after being in the league 10yrs is cancerous to this team in the long run. Melo is here for another 2 1/2yrs when is he going to learn to trust his teammates? I let it go last year because he was all alone. This year is different. Let him keep his word and trust his teammates. He's clearly lost focus. It's up to the coaches and organization to get him re-focused. Not the fans and media. Melo playing unselfishly can be very rewarding for all of us

If this were true, Amare would never finish games with Melo. He did in Boston.
You were right when you said "I full expect Amare to start once Sheed is back in a week or 2". Once we have a big man to come in when Amare/Tyson sit down, then Amare wont have to come off the bench anymore.

I don't. Amare has been thriving off the bench and it's what the bench needs: reliable scorer and a big man who plays the post. Sheed and Amare fit well together too.
Why are people assuming that Amare's knees and back can handle starters' minutes for the rest of the season? I'd be fine with him playing as few min as necessary in order to keep him fresh for the playoffs. If he played 15 mpg during the regular season for the rest of his career and then had a bigger role in the playoffs, that might be the best scenario.
