Jr maybe shooting bad, but his defense is solid and his energy is always there..melo doesn't shoot well and he lets it effect every other part of his game

Felton is a point guard. He excels in the PnR. More important than comparing shooting stats with a chucker like JR

I think it's kind of funny that you call JR a chucker when he takes fewer shots/game than Felton.

so your definition is only about shots/game? Not quality of shots too?

In Felton's case yes. His entire career has proven that he's not a jump shooter yet he's taking 16 shots/game most of which are jump shots.

I can hardly wait for the first thread showing "% of quality shots taken per game/vs % of shitty shots taken per game" There must be a site out there that tracks those somewhere...

Then we'll have even more ammo for why Melo (through his association with JR) is an out and out loser driving a team that's only 2nd place in a crap division.

Felton has been a chucker, however, his play has also lead to very positive contributions from Cahndler, Melo, etc. While I do think he was shooting way too much, he has made up for it by in large by excelling in the PnR with Chandler and gettin gwide open looks for others.

JR reverts to horrible shots and horrible turnovers when he gets into And 1 Mixtape mode. Yes, he has played some decent D and has been rebounding, but the immaturity shows up too often still. He can hurt the Knicks much more than Felton can. I'm happy with Felton overall.

Anyone see this from the Knicks Wall: http://theknickswall.com/2013/01/28/drib...

Jonah Kaner @TheKnicksWall

Holy shit. RT @HerringWSJ J.R. Smith has shot 43% from the 3-pt line when he does so w/o dribbling. When he dribbles once or more: 8.3%.

I knew there was a difference, but I didn't realize it was this bad. I'm sure the staff has pointed this out to him and I notice he's taking more time setting up for the three. He's still ODing on those crazy fadeway mid-range shots tho.

It's always been pretty obvious that most players shoot better when they catch and shoot as opposed to catch, dribble, and shoot but, wow. That's an amazing difference.

Yeah, maybe Coach should put a rule in place that states JR can't shoot a three unless it's spot up opportunity.

Anji @ 1/28/2013 9:47 PM
How many three's does JR take while dribbling??? I would like to see those numbers, the actual attempts.

If you asked me I would say the lion share of his three's are catch and shoot three's. Out side of end the quarter situations, I doubt JR has taken more than a handful of three's were he dribbles.

I did some quick calculations and I think JR is 56/133 in catch and shoot attempts and 5/63 when shooting off the dribble.

dk7th @ 1/28/2013 10:27 PM
strike 1: 48.4%TS is just pathetic
strike 2: 15.3 fga and 3.3 fta for a ratio of 4.6:1 shows a lack of courage and genuine ball-handling skills
strike 3: usage rate to assist rate is a ratio of 1.73:1 terrible for a back court player

eye test strike 4: overdribbling and stupid fouls.
eye test strike 5: that dirty play on dragic and constantly arguing foul calls.

the guy is a moron-- a genuine fool's gold negative-sum player-- and he is not rewarding woodson's faith in him. never make the coach look bad.

Yes but he thinks he is which is dangerous. With the effort he shows grabbing boards and playing D I could live with him missing good shots. What I can't live with is a player of his ilk thinking he can take on double and triple teams.

Definitely. He was able to free associate a discussion about Felton and his shot selection and make it seem like I was bashing Melo. I am truly impressed.
