Championship or bust. There is no more waiting, team is built to win now. Anything short a chip is an epic fail.

my initial response is the obvious one that there is no consensus and there is no consensus because it is not really clear how good or bad this team actually is.

So u go from a guy who expected the Knicks to be in the 3 seed, if our are an optimist, which clearly you weren't, to the 7th seed, which I think more accurately describes your thinking...To now expecting the Knicks to reach the ECF or be a disappointment?????

what i said was that the knicks HAD TO maintain a second seeding if they hoped to make the ECF. third seed won't get it done as history has shown the odds are against it.

as to optimism they sure looked like a 2nd seed to me the first 6 games of the season. since then, around the time not of the grizzlies loss but the rockets loss, this team has regressed.

i don't know where you got the notion i thought they were a 7th seed either-- unless you are referring to the fact that right now only a couple of games separates us from the 6th seed-- not the seventh. i did say that but that doesn't more accurately describe my thinking come on now.

so my expectations are the same-- if they looked that good the first 6 or 7 games they should be able to get that back. to me it boils down to coaching leadership and player leadership.

Well I got the notion because u made a case for them coming in between 3rd and 7th...3rd, if you are an optimist, but as u say "I doubt it"...But I'm glad to see u come around to them getting to the ECF...

I'd love to watch the Knicks end their drought, but considering this team just celebrated their first playoff win in a decade, getting to the ECF and falling to a superior team would at the very least show a great deal of improvement. Moves could possibly be made in offseason to put the team in the Finals.

I believe there is a window for this squad, but its not just one year. If they're good enough to get to the ECF or the Finals. I'm confident that Grunwald will be working the phones, trying build a team good enough to put us over the top.

IIm not sure about that. We are built for this one year unless we draft a very good player but we will have between the 20th-30th pick so i doubt we will get an impact player.

I can agree with this. There have been far too many injuries to even gauge what this team's realistic potential is. I don't think we will see this team really play its best ball until after the all star break. Or, at least I hope this is the case.

If anyone has an impact for the Knicks more than likely it will be through a trade, not the draft. The core of Chandler/Melo/Stat will still be there. Shump will be taking a more active role and I'm pretty sure that Grunwald will be looking for more height as we've been mostly going small due to injuries. If Melo/Stat can find a way consistently to both get theirs, this squad should be in good shape.

I think their chemsitry (Stat and Melo) will continue to improve. They can certainly play together and Melo has made some good dishes to Amar'e.

in all fairness they are trying.
most of Amare's shots (especially free throws) have come from a Melo pass.
I don't have a stat and am not going to bother to look for it, but that's because I don't need to, it's clearly evident.
the defense isn't there yet, and that's mostly due to quick guards, Kidd and Priggie can't guard a quick guard, Felton's just coming back and is still rusty, same for Shumpert (well, worse), and Stat also can't defend a high pick n' roll for sh1t. (not taking a dig at amare, like him as a person and a player, and he's really trying and improving, just noting his flaws)
a high pick n' roll might still cause problems later on, but atleast we should have Sheed and/or Camby back which should really help, especialy considering I don't want us to burn Chandler out.

Expecations are that they are in the hunt all the way thru. This team can make a legit run.

That is all anyone has in this league. Only Miami and OKC have title as the high water mark to reach.

Great series would be Knicks-Spurs!

Im happy we are and can contend. We are in the conversation. Boston is cooked, BKN is a worthy rival and we can still get better!

Gotta get healthy, gotta stay healthy!

Bonn1997 @ 1/30/2013 9:18 AM
They're so hard to predict because of age and injuries. I put strong 2nd round performance though.

I'd agree with that... they might implode at the end of the year because of injuries. But I like to think they'll go far with that experience because outside of Chicago, Miami, and Boston (assuming they make the playoffs), no one else really has any experience when it matters. Maybe Indiana? Atlanta?

Title! Every year! Win all 82 games by 20 or more! Fo Fo Fo through to the chips for the next decade!

ECF or better: 20
2nd round or worse: 8

.714 Homer over Somber percentage!

Honestly, let's make some noise in the playoffs. Let's hurt somebody young and potenshull-filled! Then, Beat the Hate!

1st or 2nd round exit with weak showing.

In a 82 game season?

With the oldest team in the league??

Do you really think this is likely?

gunsnewing @ 1/30/2013 4:52 PM
Knicks not old

Lakers old

Age should be the least of our worries.

Amare's health and Melo's unselfish play will go a long way

playa2 @ 1/30/2013 6:50 PM
ECF = Team will make sure everybody who's necessary will be healthy.

That means PG's and SG's intact( J.R,Shumpert Kidd- Felton - Prigioni)
PF's and C's intact ( Amare Melo - Sheed Chandler Camby)

Teams will have problems against this length and playoff experience with and scoring in bunches.

This team can play defense like we did in NOV.

NYDiva @ 1/31/2013 1:05 AM
I want the Knicks to win a championship every year.

I want this 40 year drought to end. I want one year in which the New York Knickerbockers are the champions of basketball.

The bare bone of expectation for me is that they make the playoffs and get to the semi-finals. To continue that upward trajectory.

This team is in win-now mode as currently constructed. Because for some reason, the Knicks signed FIVE aging veterans in the off-season, the youngest being the 35-year-old Prigioni. The core is not old but bench players in key positions are. If the Knicks had Faried off the bench, it wouldn't matter that Camby has played 14 games this year. But the Knicks are so desperately in need of size and rebounding down low that it does.

If the Knicks can pick up Evans/Blatche type of guys in the off-season --(seriously, there has got to be some kid in college, Europe, or the D-League who can board and play D!)--and shed some age on the bench, the window opens further.

My other concerns are Tyson's minutes and how much he'll have left in the tank for the postseason, and Amare's health in general and how much I should invest in someone that may break down before/during the postseason.

I have plenty of concerns as to how the Knicks actually PLAY the game - poor PnR D (any guard who can dribble the ball in the NBA seems to play All-World vs the Knicks), poor offensive execution, ISO-heavy O, lack of rebounding. The farther they get from November ball, the more that feels like aberration and the current style of play feels like the 'real Knicks'.

But, then, even during this 'bad stretch', they managed to once again beat the team with the best record in the NBA, proving that their win in SA was no fluke.

It would almost be easier if they weren't capable of excellent play. Then I could just say they aren't good enough and accept their limitations as a team. But, they are. They were. So all I can do is hope they re-invest in a defensive-oriented/ball movement philosophy. SOON.
