Call me crazy, but it seems that Amare has been doing a great job pulling down def. rebounds since his return. After a few more games, it will be interesting to compare to his historical average (6.4)
http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/stoudam01.html
The only guys who averages more rebounds for their careers than Amare on this team are Camby & Tyson
Wallace is also a better rebounder than Amare, having 8 or 9 boards come to you playing for MDA doesn't make you a good rebounder.
But Amare has been really improved I think since the Boston game on the boards and in the paint in general.
Sheed averages 6rebs for his career. Never a great rebounder but good at boxing out for Big Ben. Amare avg 9 for his career. Rebounding is not Amare's weakness. Last year he had a bad back. Defense is another story with him
The stat does not show when a player boxes out his man and allows a teammate to get a rebound. The eye test is still crucial
Eye, Metric, what ever, there are a lot of reasons why Weed average 6 boards for his career and Amare averaged 9 boards.
But Wallace is the better rebounder, even this year with improved Amare, Wallace was better in his short time per.
So not to take away from the strides Amare is definitely making this season right now, Chandler/Camby/Wallace are still better.
Amare grabs more offensive rebounds. Sheed hangs around the 3pt line. Its fair to say Sheed is a better defensive rebounder
It's such a pleasure to see Amare get back with his new moves and get back to work on glass. Amare does wonders for our rebounding. I honestly had my doubts, but he has proved me and a lot of other people wrong.

Not really. He looks great. I'm still skeptical that he has a lot left physically, though. I hope we don't see a Jason Kidd like decline as his body gets more wear and tear. If he plays this well without missing a lot of time for most of the remainder of his contract, he'll have proved us wrong.

know who he looks like? Amare Stoudemire. Only question is like Bonn said... how much gass left in the tank?
call me crazy but, I'm thinking Amare can actually become better than he has ever been. With his new post game, a commitment to defense (though he'll never be great at it) seeing his jumper might has come back, I think during the playoffs we will see the beast re-unleashed. He can still drive it down the lane and posterize you down low or take you to school on the blocks.

Agree. If we can continue to limit his minutes and he continues to regain his from, playoff time is going to be fun.

Also agree. Stat is definitely playing well enough to start but it doesn't mean he should. Still another half of a season to go and a long hard slog through the playoffs. Like I said before, JR and Stat gives us a lot of firepower off the bench. Gives us a lot of offense to spread out over 4 quarters.
But no offense to start quarters 1 & 3. The Knicks worst quarters. Get well soon Sheed
Melo leads the league in first quarter offense, our defense isn't what is was before, that's more of a problem in those quarters. I expect Felton to start driving to the rim more as he gets back into game shape and Shump will pick up his scoring as well. Not enough of a reason IMO to start Stat.
Amar'e has been rebounding well and the Knicks have not been getting murdered on the boards as extremely as they were prior to his return. It also helps that Iman grabs boards well for his position.

Actually, I disagree. He looks like a completely different player on O. Yes, he can still jam it, but he is skilled enough now to post up and hit high % shots. Once the player sees the ball go throught the hoop it gives confidence in the jumper. Even further, if/when he loses some atleticism going forward it will no longer affect his game so much because of his new post up prowless. His footwork and effectiveness when posting up is night and day whem compared to his previous years.
On D he seems more determined, and i hope with lasting results.

STAT 2.0
Listening to WFAN last night on the way to work and heard that there's a new name for Amare's new low post game....THE STAT MAKER

Kidds physical decline is way over exaggerated. He's always been a savvy pg using his IQ over his athleticism. Now if Lebron's athleticism declined, then lebron fans should be concerned. Along with other athletic freaks. Amari is learning how to impact the game without using his athleticism, thanks to Hakeem Olajuwon. Those lessons will extend his career.
I don't care how much a players physical attributes decline, as long as his impact on the game remains high. Jason Kidds impact on this team is just as important as the other guys that score 20+ or jumps out the gym. I get tired of all this how much is left in the tank. It's enough to get us within .5 games of the eastern conference.
Instead of thinking about the glass half empty, it's time for Knick fans to see the glass half full. We've been half empty for over 15 yrs.....It's time to see the light. We have our best chance at a ring this year....Amari and Kidd will be a few of the key knick players that put us over the top. Can't wait to see Kidd's post defense on Lebron, similar to his Dallas championship days. Or Amari and Chandler trying to rip the rim down in Miami. Lets Go!

Watching Amare reinvent himself with no ego is a beautiful thing
He is slowly morphing into a most valuable glue player.
