Ever heard of teams raising their game in the playoffs?

tonight didn't further my confidence in this team.
Yup. Only the Clippers and Raptors remaining before our all-star break with a chance at a record of 34-16 heading into all-star weekend. As of right now we're 6-1 during our previous 7 games with a potential chance of being 8-1 during our previous 9 (heading into all-star weekend).

Damn, google is awesome, even when the team does what the naysayer says, they still complain.
Totally hilarious, this team could win it all and someone will say they dont like HOW they won.

My guess is the complaint would either be that they were built unethically or that they sacrificed youth and being marginal for one year of success with a star.

It's the way they keep moving the goalposts. Remember when we struggled around christmas time, and suddenly only our last 7 or 8 games counted and were the true reflection of us as a team because we had lost most of them? Then they were talking about judging us on previous years playoff performances. Now it's not even on wins and loses, but the way in which the games are won that is the most important.
Just to end this moving of goalposts- posters like 3G4G, dk7th etc, it's fine if you worry and find fault in the team but could you please just state EXACTLY what this team should be achieving in your eyes- I mean precise record, type of performance etc, and then at least you're not changing the argument every time we start doing well.

The burden isn't on 3G and dk7,
it's on the guys that are jock sniffing Melo and this team without any historical backing,
All first round exits in Melo's wake, and now we are supposed to treat the current team as a contender because they've won 30 or so games? No way

Thats a fair question. Anything to put an end to the constant arguing between both polarizing sides. The sad part is only handle full of people on both sides continuously sabotage good threads

It is hard, I've engaged quite a few of these guys, and while they complain they cannot state what they would do themselves to improve a situation where the team is doing BETTER than all of us expected.
No one thought this club would have the record it does, not one single person, so the hate is UNWARRANTED, and based on personal BS.

you're joking. i have been utterly consistent through the entire season, my man. it's the knicks who haven't been consistent, resulting in the impression you get of someone moving the goalposts.
my expectation from the outset was the ECF. i have said that from the very beginning. i challenge you to find any posts where i stated otherwise. that translates to 55 wins at the very least.
the first 7 games of the season gave me my first whiff of genuine optimism because the defense they were playing, leading to some genuine cohesion on offense, gave me hope that woodson was a better coach than i thought. the effort i saw carmelo anthony making on defense gave me hope that the team was going to excel.
happily they are on pace to reach 55 wins but not more than that. their schedule gets harder the last 34 games. so based on how much harder the schedule is that means that they must play better than they have, ie HOW they play matters a whole bunch.
unhappily, no matter if they actually achieve the 55 games, it is the ECF that is the ultimate goal/expectation i have for this team. and right now they don't look like such a team.
if you haven't noticed not every 55 win team reaches the ECF. ever consider why?

yes this is the point. the knicks have no laurels to rest on and no proven track record-- "no historical backing" as you put it so well-- of success in the playoffs. they aren't winning the way genuine contenders win, ie with defense.
if guys want to insist that a win is a win and hey lets enjoy the ride who can stop them? just don't look the W's and tell me they are going to cakewalk to the ECF.

I thought back then you credited the team because of unsustainable threes?
I agree that more than the record it depends on how well you are playing. Let's see what this team looks like with Sheed & Camby and a healthier Shumpert. Maybe we can start playing close to perfect ball again in time for the playoffs
May I introduce you to your actual words when the team was 3-0, please tell me when you were happy about the team, certainly not when they were 3-0.

gunsnewing wrote:Well 48 games in and the Knicks are 32-16 with Sheed and Camby on the horizon. I'll take it
And we're on pace to possibly win 55 games, so what's the problem? I agree with dk7th in that you can't rest on your laurels, but for me it doesn't so much come down to teams killing it in the regular season, but whether they can up their game in the playoffs. Unfortunately we won't find that out until the playoffs. Those LJ teams in the 90s perfected this- playing mediocre and sometimes poorly in the regular season, only to get their s*** together in the playoffs.
For me there are encouraging signs- winning when playing poorly, and how we played defense in the first 7 games. My hope is that by the playoffs Shump will be showing signs, and the older vets will up their games since it is their last shot at a title- players like Kidd, Camby and Sheed- heck maybe even Kurt. Not worth sweating it until then.

stoudemire in the starting lineup is very problematic.
it's hard to get enthused about this team until we have seen another 20-25 games. 10-12 years of butt-ugly will do that to you.
Dk7th came into the season hating the Melo trade, hating the signing of all the "old" players, felt the Knicks will suffer for losing Lin and picking up Felton and hates the way the Knicks "win"...YET...in his words, anything but a 55 win season and ECF appearance will be considered a failure??
For a person who is so unhappy with the way this team is constructed and direction its going, he sure does have high expectations.

dk7th wrote:the knick offense is pretty much unwatchable but hey they're winning so that covers over a multitude of sins... for now.melo trending to the same mediocre TS% of around 54-55% is not a good sign.
full strength SA, MEM, and IND will be a good measure of this team.

i dont knock his expectations, i expect this team to be in the ecf as well.
What i challenge is his claim that at some point in the season he did enjoy watching the team, mainly because of defense and these post indicate that was a flat out lie.
He's always stated Melo is playing above his capability and has never enjoyed the team this season.
What makes it worse, is when someone say "i care about how a team wins vs the win itself"...that's some dumb as thinking.
