I'd do the trade if it put us in CJ McCollum-Michael Carter-Williams range and they throw in another second-rounder.

So making $4mil/yr is overpaid for a solid player who actually can play offense and defense?

Papabear Says

So if we get him for 4mil then what do we pay JR Smith to keep him here? or do we loose him for nothing.

No we can keep Earl irregardless of trade assuming we're not concerned about Tax Dollars.

gunsnewing wrote:$21m 3yrs ($7mper)

Wouldn't care, we're over the cap and will be for the next 3-4yrs minimum. He'd only be here for 3yrs tops..yr 3 becomes an expiring. Stop making his contract be more than what it is. Otherwise all expirings have zero value on this team going forward.

3G4G wrote:No one cared about giving up Gallo/Chandler/Moz/AR/Lee/Nate/Lin/Fields picks galore...... why care about giving up Shump who is just 1 young talent in a field of old crops?

Stop it. Just stop it already. And in case you haven't noticed, we still don't care.

Randolph: 2.0 points, 1.9 boards, 0.5 blocks and 0.3 assists per game
Mozgov: 3.0 points, 2.9 boards, 0.6 blocks and 0.2 assists per game.
Fields: 4.9 points, 5.0 boards, 1.6 assists and 0.2 blocks per game. $18,725,000 over the next three years.

I really like how you're simply doing nothing more than name dropping in regards to Ex-Knicks. Fields, Randolph and Mozgov? Really? You for real son?

And next time you name drop Gallo, don't forget a couple of thing(s)...

Melo's career:: 24.9 points, 6.3 boards, 3.1 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.5 blocks per game. A career FG% of .456%.
Gallo's career: 14.6 points, 4.6 boards, 1.9 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.5 blocks per game. A career FG% of .421%.

Also, when name dropping Gallo, don't forget a couple of (other) thing(s).

Melo:: Knicks have a winning record of 72-51 during 123 games in which Melo has played as a Knick (21 games above .500). Melo's missed 16 games due to injury as a Knick.

Gallo: Knicks had a losing record of 67-90 during 157 games in which Gallo played as a Knick (23 games below .500). Gallo missed 61 games due to injury as a Knick.

Understood? Also, when name dropping Wilson Chandler, don't forget about a couple of fact(s).

J.R Smith:: 16.2 points, 5.0 boards, 2.8 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.4 turnovers per game. 0 games missed due to injury.
W.Chandler: 9.7 points, 4.9 boards, 0.5 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.2 turnovers per game. 36 games missed due to injury.

Now when name dropping Jeremy Lin, don't forget about a couple of fact(s).

Ray: 14.8 points, 6.3 assists, 1.2 steals, 2.9 boards and 2.3 turnovers per game with a Player Efficiency Rating of 15.18. .402 FG%.
Lin: 12.6 points, 6.1 assists, 2.0 steals, 3.5 boards and 3.0 turnovers per game with a Player Efficiency Rating of 14.73. .437 FG%.

Don't you dare forget one thing when looking at those numbers. Jeremy Lin is due $25,123,938 over the next 3 seasons. Raymond Felton is only due $12,540,000 over the next 3 seasons.

Not only that but our Knicks only went 16-10 under Lin during "Linsanity" before Jeremy Lin sat out the entire postseason. Our Knicks have gone 26-10 under Raymond Felton here in 2012-2013.

Would you like to name drop? Fine, lets name drop.

Raymond Felton over Jeremy Lin.
J.R Smith over Wilson Chandler.
Carmelo Anthony over Danilo Gallinari.
Tyson Chandler over Timofey Mozgov.
Steve Novak over Landry Fields.
Jason Kidd over Baron Davis.
Pablo Prigioni over Mike Bibby.
Iman Shumpert over Toney Douglas.
Kurt Thomas over Anthony Randolph.
Rasheed Wallace over Dan Gadzuric.
Ronnie Brewer over Renaldo Balkman.
James White/Chris Copeland over Bill Walker/Andy Rautins.
Marcus Camby over Eddy Curry.

How's that for some name dropping? I guess this is where Knick fans apologize for David Lee of all players? Down right hilarious. Give me a healthy Amar'e Stoudemire.

"Gallo/Chandler/Moz/AR/Lee/Nate/Lin/Fields".
vs.
Melo/J.R Smith/Tyson/Rasheed/Amar'e/Shump/Felton/Novak.

Too funny my dude.

Ok forget the contract. What good would Fields sitting on the end of the bench like Brewer is now do for this team? At $7mil per?

By the way how great did the Nash trade work out for Phx. Who would have thought they would get a lottery pick out of it?

regarding Dudley: Is it fair to say he is basically a bigger version of Kevin Martin minus the Ft% and the usage. However on the Knicks his usage wouldn't be high anyway.

I am on the fence with the trade but it seems like the Suns really want Shump. If they want him bad enough I would ask for Dudley, Gortat, and a 1st for Shump, Camby, and Novak. Camby is an expiring contract next year since his 3rd year is not guaranteed. If they really want Shump come get him. lol.

The more I think about it, the more I think we are better off with shumps. Dudley would be a nice piece to add but not for shumps, who I think will be as good offensively but with top notch defense.

I'll admit I don't really know anything about Jared Dudley- looked at his stats and vaguely remember him being impressive in the playoffs a few years ago (led to the Suns thinking they'd be okay letting Amar'e go, and investing their money in Dudley, Channing Frye etc).

But for me it's never been about winning a championship at all costs- stuff like loyalty is kind of important to me. Shump loves playing for the Knicks, and has worked ridiculously hard to return from the ACL tear- just feels wrong to turn around and trade him. And then like other posters have mentioned, I'd be worried about the chemistry impact- Iman is very popular, it would be like ripping the heart out of our team. And I think people are being a bit impatient- if he was back 100% and playing like last year, would you still do this deal?

We always seem to tinker mid-season and it rarely ends well. maybe we should try sticking with what we have and seeing if the familiarity and chemistry counts for something come the playoffs. Seriously, when was the last time we won a mid season trade, in that we played better after it?

gunsnewing wrote:Goodbye Shumpert? Winds up in PHX afterall? Knicks will not have patience with Shumpert. We talking New York Knicks here.

umm...we ain't trading shump that easily, and i don't know what this 'we are talking ny knicks' means.

silly talk.

i'm at a loss as to why folks here think we should get rid of him.

umm...last year he was one of our best players.

i'm sorry, are we not full of old school knick fans here, who harp about defense? dude was our best player on the ball, and one of the best in the league last year.

we have few guards who can defend, especially those with speed (partially why we lost to wall and the wiz) and we want to get rid of him just after he is recovering from his injury? shump's not 100%.

no way does this happen. next year, if he looks like he does now, then i can see it, but no way do the knicks do this now.

Anji wrote:I think Shumpert is over rated, but I wouldn't trade him for Dudley. Novak would be a no brainier though.

what was he over rated at? last year he was a beast on defense.

For me this Dudley trade thing is easy. If the trade is for Shump I say no. If the trade is for Novak I say yes. Novak is the better shooter but he is too 1 dimensional for my taste. Novak is worse on D and he only seems to hit wide open shots. Even those open shots he is hitting he is hitting at a lesser percentage than last year. Shump is no where near back to 100%. We knew even though he can play he will not be near 100% for another year. Adrian Peterson is the exception to the rule.

Phoenix would be sending the pick.

Damn, reading comprehension, Why would PHX do that? They have possibly two lotto picks coming up.

I have no idea. I thought we would be the ones having to throw in a sweetener if Dudley & Shumpert were being traded.

yeah it is ironic, right now Dudley is the better player, i dont think they like shumpert that much to fork over a good player and a pick.

right now shump just came back from his acl injury. why the heck would we make this deal unless it involves a pick? this deal doesn't make any sense. and folks talking about novak falling off are making me laugh.

NYKMentality wrote:No way am I even willing to give up Steve Novak. Come postseason play, this man can become down right deadly being surrounded by the likes of Felton, J.R, Melo, Stoudemire and Chandler. Which wasn't the case last season where Miami could focus on Novak due to lack of overall ability/talent. Novak has came out of nowhere and emerged into one of the greatest pure shooting three point shooters in the game today. Led the entire league in 3PT shooting percentage last season and also ranks top 5 (4th) only behind the likes of Martin, Curry and Kover and ahead of Ray Allen, Durant, Mike Dunleavy etc, etc.

His three point shooting percentage as of right now? .441%. Reggie Miller was a career .395 shooter from beyond the arc while Bird had a career three point shooting percentage of .376. Not comparing Novak as an overall player to all-time greats but when in regards to shooting? He's as great as they come as a pure shooter. Can change the momentum of a ball game in an instant coming off the bench. .472 and .441 over the past two seasons? It's no longer a fluke, Novak is a special shooter and come postseason play, when opposing defenses are focused on the likes of Felton, J.R Smith (who LOVES Novak), Melo, Stoudemire etc, etc... Novak can get wet and bury teams with his shooting.

Novak is 7th on our team in minutes per game behind Melo, Felton, J.R, Tyson, Kidd and Amar'e. He's more important to our success than people give him credit for. Just having Novak roam the perimeter looking to get off, opens up the entire floor for Melo and Amar'e. Defenses will not leave Novak open. Which opens up our offense for our stars and/or PG's. His defense and rebounding is an issue, but come postseason play? I can't wait for M.S.G to explode as Novak drains momentum changing money balls.

It's just a hunch, but I believe Novak emerges come postseason play here in 2012-2013. I'm not willing to trade one of the NBA's greatest pure shooters.

Go back and look at Novak last playoffs---nothing

one playoff series and that's it? sheesh.

as a potential superstar?

i don't expect that, but he has potential. does anyone see dudely that way? even suns fans? he's a shooting sf. not a lock down defender with d-wade potential, which shump is closer to potentially being.

that's not overrating him, because he's at least a lock down defender with very high athleticism and work rate. not many players in the league like that.

Wow he'd be a great fit in Boston with Terry old and struggling

Don't know why the Bucks would be interested unless they were trading Ellis

of course ellis is trade fodder. he's a fool's gold player. in fact that kid eric gordon is as well.

reddick is a very good player and would be a welcome rotation player on a good playoff team.

Ellis at one point said he is going to opt out of his contract after this season. I don't know if the bucks can afford to pay him and also reup Jennings. They might be looking to move him for a reasonable contract.

I dont want to give up shump but we definetly need another shooter and another bigman. We need a big body to give tyson some rest since i ahve no faith in camby at this point. Dudley would be nice but i doubt they would trade him unless we gave them shump

I do not get some of the mentality or common sense here. If you liked the fact we got Melo in that trade--why have fear of trading Shumpoert who WILL not be the same player he was last year this year? If Ronnie Brewer played even reasonable--we wouldnt be having this conversation--but he hasnt and wont--and it fills a void. We have hurt Kidd because of Brewer--we need to fill those shoes. If the Knicks could get Reddick in a threeway with Pho and Orlando--Id love to get him first but Dudley and a pick would be smart for us. Dudley here could avg 14 points and shoot 50%--and that my friends might just put us over the top. We dont have time--this team is not built on waiting. Amare Stoudemire is a guy who could go down for good at ANY time. J Kidd is almost done--I think we can get one last burst with him as a back up. Rasheed done this year Camby done Tyson is now 31 and will start going downhill. This is it--lets go for it today. I said it after the Minnesota game--Iman shumperts potential does not equate waiting to improve the team now. We need to go to war with reliable players---Shumpert is not there and highly likely wil be there this year---the Knicks as an organization have been brutal with injured players--let him go to Pho and heal up. Lets get the best deal for us--a high quality vet with a pick is a nice deal take it and dont look back.
