The New York Knicks have expressed interest in Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Luke Ridnour, according to source.
yellowboy90 @ 2/13/2013 3:24 PM
Novak works straight up or they can Thomas/Brewer/White/Cope. However they are full so I doubt they can do the poo poo platter.

More than likely people just like to throw out NY.

AnubisADL @ 2/13/2013 3:29 PM
Ridnour is decent.
smackeddog @ 2/13/2013 3:34 PM
Don't really see how Novak makes sense for them- they have Kevin Love. They do seem to have a fetish for white players, however I thought they wanted to get rid of some salary as they have to pay that centre of theirs next year, don't think we can offer that as they can't take back multiple players as they don't have the roster spots.

Off topic, the rockets scout was at our last game- either they were trolling (can't see us trading with them ever again!), or the only player they could possibly have interest that makes sense for them would be Amar'e maybe?

Bonn1997 @ 2/13/2013 4:13 PM
Ridnour would help a lot.
smackeddog @ 2/13/2013 4:19 PM
What's Ridnour's defense like?

Probably like Felton's shooting. He'd still a useful backup though.

Raymond is so much better than Lin why are we looking at Ridnour? If he backs up Raymond then what does that say about the Kidd/Prigs signings? Also who's to be given up for Ridnour? The fact we're even looking at a point guard of his caliber speaks volumes.

technomaster @ 2/13/2013 4:37 PM
Not sure why they'd want Ridnour, absent a season-ending injury to Felton.

Small, mediocre defender. We have better with Pablo and Kidd - and I think both might be at least his equal offensively.

The specific need we have at guard is for someone who can stick with little shifty speedsters. It's not such a big deal heading to the playoffs - most of the teams in the east do not have this sort of player.

Theoretically, we don't really have anyone who can hope to contain some of the western conference guards, should we make it to the NBA final (Paul, Westbrook). I'm not really worried about Parker or Conley or Curry...

Must be looking at Ridnour as part of a 3+ team deal.

really doesn't say anything, other than the more depth from a veteran presence the better.

I'd give up Novak's useless body for a pg who actually could start any day of the week.

Ridnour's a guard, so his guard defense is better than Novak. But as much as I dis-like Novaks defense, I would still hate to see him go.

Ridnour would not be added for his defense (which might be adverage at best)....He's a good shooter with decent range and floor management ability at the PG position.

He will be able to penetrate defenses, and use his penetration to create open shots for others. Perfect PG insurance off the bench, with young enough legs to handle major minutes if needed.

He allows Woodson to always run a two PG system, which keeps the ball moving and reduces iso plays. Which is a good thing. Felton will always be hurt, because thats just the way he plays. Felton looked like a pinball machine during the last game, on those penetration plays. Time for a trade, and I approve adding Ridnour, even if it cost us Novak.

I'm still a Brewer, White and Copeland fan. We won all those games with Brewer in the starting lineup. He's our best superstar defender we have. Can't continue to allow Melo to guard the best player and score the most points. Real basketball players used to do that, but not these pre-madonnas.

Nalod @ 2/13/2013 4:43 PM

Felton goes down we are cooked. For felton to be felton he needs to play full balls to the wall. Kidd can't give us much more and he might be cooked, Pablo is nice story but he can't shoot. JR can't carry the load himself.

we need another scorer.

It's nothing to do with Felton- it's our back up PG issue that it would address. Basically I think the Knicks miscalculated in that they saw Kidd as a back up PG, when really, at this point in his career he's a SG. Prigs is a great 3rd string PG, but not sure many feel safe with him as our main backup PG.

I don't see us getting Ridnour, but we need to at least think about whether we should add another PG, same with regards to a back up PF/C.

GustavBahler @ 2/13/2013 5:09 PM
I would trade Novak for Ridnour. Novak is still one of the 5 best 3pt shooters in the league, but its more important right now that we get another guard who can get to the rim. If not its going to be hard for shooters to get open looks in the playoffs. We watched what happened against the Clips when we had problems getting to the rim.

I was for giving Novak until the end of the season, but if we can address a more important need then I'm for it.

We need a backup PG who isn't old as shit. Ridnour is insurance for Felton.

Feltons very physical play is worrying though he has been a pit bull health wise, for the most part. It still is sad we let Lin go (for nothing) and did some of the other signings. I would much rather have had Lin and let Novak walk along with signing only one of the two tall old guys (due to injury concerns.) I like Felton, but would have ideally liked to see Lin and Felton playing it out for the starters role and Kidd being their teacher. You just don't let high IQ PG's go for nothing. My biggest concern was replacing Lin and the old folks getting injured, and this continues to be true. It might end up being our downfall, though I think Felton does fit the team well but he does not have the court vision, passing ability and IQ that Lin has and that isn't debatable. Felton though, is very good at what he does, just wish he could pass better. He is great at driving and premeditatively dishing to an "open" guy, but when you watch him, he just misses too many open guys, head down thing.

RonRon @ 2/13/2013 5:36 PM
I think Barea or Ridnour would both help this team and whichever has the lower price tag, I would be happy to take
Both have abilities to stretch the floor and penetrate, 2 area's that we could use help in

Most likely Barea would cost less because he gets payed more and has more years on his contract
We all saw Barea work well in Dallas with Tyson and Kidd, with his ability to handle the ball, penetrate/finish, hit big shots, spread the floor, facilitate a bit, and STAY in front of guards
During the Championship run, as a starter, he played the facilitating role in Dallas effectively and the Team played off his ability to penetrate as they spread the floor out with 4 shooters/timely cuts to the basket/offensive rebounds
He can also play the instant offense role that he also had played in Dallas and more on Twolves

While Ridnour is a pure PG that has much better ability to facilitate a team, his style of fit's player movement off the ball, PnR, and ball movement, styles that don't seem to put more emphasis on
Woodson seem's to like to play OFF of Melo ability to score and Amare off the post, and a spread offense, rather than movement as a team to break down our opponents DEF
If you are going to ask him to just bring the ball up and dump the ball to Melo and play his ability to score consistently, it would not be utilizing Ridnour's abilities

BigDaddyG @ 2/13/2013 5:58 PM
Ridnour is a backup. He relies too much on his outside shot and he makes Felton look like Tony Allen on defense. That said, you could do a lot worse as a far as reserves go and he's proven he can start for short stretches.
gunsnewing @ 2/13/2013 6:36 PM
I like it. Trade Novak and Pablo. Would like to trade Kidd but that isn't happening
CrushAlot @ 2/13/2013 6:36 PM
I heard speculation that the Ridnour trade could be expanded to include Buddinger. Again it was speculation but the Knick names mentioned were Brewer and some combination of guys to make the money work.

I get being frustrated about Lin leaving but the other stuff frustrates me when it is brought up. If one of the two tall guys you are talking about that the Knicks signed is Rasheed you know that he is on a vet minimum contract and that will have no impact on the third year of the new cba when Lin's contract ballooned up with the poison pill. Also, Camby's deal is essentially two years. The third year I believe is a team option but had to be included so that a sign and trade could be done. Also, Lin was a restricted free agent that signed a poison pill contract. The contract was structured by Morey so that it was almost impossible for the Knicks to match.
