At this point we should ride the Melo/Amare/Chandler thing out. There's no need to blow anything up.

2 more seasons and Melo can leave..which I think he will do if we're still playing like this.
3 more seasons and we pretty much have a blank slate to start with.
At that point go after a franchise player if there's one available.
Otherwise sign guys to value contracts, LOSE and hope you draft a stud.
If he's a stud you start winning and can sign a franchise player if he's available.
If he's a bust you lose and get another high draft pick.
I doubt a Dolan owned team can ever be this patient.
We'll probably resign a now past his prime Melo to a 20 year contract and then trade for Joe Johnson. haha. just kidding. right?
Shumpert survived the deadline. Now maybe we can blow this team up in the offseason

If Knicks lose in the 1st round then they better blow it up. It is ECF or bust for this team.

That's selling low, though. The problem is that fans don't want to sell high because they become attached to the players. When Melo was player of the month, it was the perfect time to trade him.
Again...if we lose in the 1st round....I say blow it the fuck up.
Call up the Cavs and give them their 2nd superstar to go with Irving.
Melo for Speights, Tristan Thompson, Waiters, Alonzo Gee, 1st Round Pick(#3 overall?), 1st round pick(#29 overall), 2nd round pick(#32 overall), 2nd round pick(34th overall).
Cavs would be awesome...
PG-Irving
SG-UFA
SF-Melo
PF-Varejao
C-Zeller
Bench-Kevin Jones, CJ Miles, Ellington, UFA, UFA
The KNicks? We have 3 1st round picks (3, 23 and 29) and 2 2nd round picks (32 and 34)
PG-Marcus Smart(get lucky in the draft)
SG- Shump
SF-1st Round Pick?
PF-Amare
C-Tyson
Bench-JR Smith, Novak, Felton, Kidd
We get young really quick with some very good talent.
I make these threads and some accuse me of being sensationalist but it is very much a reality. If we dont at least go deep into the 2nd rd and only lose in a hard faught series where ubjust tip ur hat. Knicks may have to consider blowing this team up in the offense unless everyone is content waiting on 2015. And who knows what that will bring with an owner like Dolan. Fortunately I trust Grunwald. Hopefully he is still around and never considers stepping down like checketts and jvg cos Dolan is impossible to work for
The team i would trade with is minnesota for derrick williams who is tearing it up at PF and their #1 pick and Ridnour but they wont do it for melo

That is why I think Cavs are the only team that would do this. They need a 2nd superstar to go with Irving. Irving also has the pelts that Melo can play with.
Yea I can see cleveland being more interested in melo than minny. I would do that deal. I love Melo but we can win without him. Or at the very least see good basketball. Amare looks healthy as long as woody doesnt ride him like sec. He should be ok for 2yrs

if we can end up facing the hawks or the bucks as a third seed that would almost guarantee a melo-led team could make it to the second round. celtics are going to give the knicks trouble so we have to hope we don't face them.
the question is in that scenario who could we end up facing in the second round? assuming the heat, pacers, and bulls win their first rounds, who do the knicks face? and what are our chances of beating them and achieving the goal of ECF? ugh
Melo to LAL; Gasol and Shumpert to Denver; Javale McGee, MWP, Wilson Chandler, Kenneth Faried and a future 1st from LA to NY.
I like this trade the best. We still keep Tyson and it gives us a tough team.
I want firat rd picks. I dont want to go after more castoffs in the offseason. I want our own lebron durant paul
Wouldn't we all! With the patience that ownership has, we would definitely have to get a player of that caliber from the draft if he has a chance of staying. However, we'll most likely get a player that needs some grooming. At that point, do you really think the Knicks are the team to develop that player?

Wow you guys are crazy with these trades. Learn from the ewing trade. You dont trade your star for no reason. Rebuilding is not what its all cracked up to be. Its a lot more fun being a playoff team then a lotto team just ask the kings cavs pistons bobcats hornets raptors etc. Be happy having a good team.
Trading Ewing was not the problem. Trading him for lazy overpaid vets was. Typical knicks. When you trade an aging star like ewing you trade him for draft picks and young players. But we all know what the knicks think of draft picks especially during the layden thomas walsh yrs

Draft picks aren't what they are cracked up to be. Only 1 team in recent years, the Spurs, has won a title build around their own picks.

Yea but you a trading a 37yr old Ewing you get whatever you can get. Better draft picks and youth than vin baker and travis knight

In that case, absolutely right, but not for Melo. Can't get back good value for him. People overrate draft picks like crazy.
Right but i would take derrick williams and minnys pick
gunsnewing wrote:Right but i would take derrick williams and minnys pick
A deal like that would be one of the better out there but i don't do it for the simple fact that i don't think either turns out to be half the player Melo is. If things go terribly wrong, you still don't trade Melo, unless it's a no-brainer for another proven star in a bad situation.
Draft picks are fun and fans enjoy the hope which is why they are always so quick to suggest a blowup, but it just isn't worth it. Much better to be a playoff team trying to improve than a lotto team with "hope."

There's no room for improvement from this team. What you see us what you get. This is pretty much it unless you KABOOM it!
