Knicks · sadly, time to cut this lemon 'loose' called Amare Stoudemire. NY need not to wait to get out of contract (page 2)

I'm just saying that when the new cba was agreed and the amnesty offered, they were all calling it the amar'e clause,

the smart move would have been to amnesty amar'e, but ownership couldn't admit their mistake,

it's like everyone knew amar'e would fall apart before his knicks deal was through, but guys were hoping the reality of the situation would just float away and not come to fruition

Well yes, but if they amnestied Amar'e, they would've paid his salary even though he didn't count towards the cap. If you were Knicks owner, would you want to pay a player $80 million for not playing? Seems like the only players amnestied have 1-2 years left. So, I guess that was why it didn't happen.

In the Knicks shoes, I would've saved it for a while and used it at a more opportune time, but it's hard to argue with getting Tyson Chandler at the time. The fact is we went all in; looks like a bad decision now. Ah well.

The owner was "worried" about paying the luxury tax over Lin's 15 million dollar 3rd year salary. And you think he is going to just pay 20 million for each of the next 2 years (and save a small amount on luxury tax?)

I agree with Briggs, Stat is a good player, we just might not be able to play him as many minutes, who knows? They haven't really said anything about him lately regarding minutes. I say start him and JR, we just have to shake things up.

Stat once was a good player. For the past 1 1/2 years, he's simply hurt the team.

I agree. It's his contracts that's hurting our franchise more than anything. How Amar'e is being paid more than 7 million dollars when compared to LeBron James over the next 3 seasons is simply beyond me.

earthmansurfer @ 2/24/2013 9:08 AM
I can agree that Stat is a terrible defensive player, but he is still quite capable on offense. But it is sure dangerous to have him our there with Novak, actually with half of our team.
We really need to get the old guys back out there, it will make Stat, Novak and even Felton all the much better.
gunsnewing @ 2/24/2013 9:58 AM
More reason to Start Amare so that him and Novak are not on the floor together
callmened @ 2/24/2013 1:27 PM
His defense is absolutely horrible. Like its ridiculous how bad it is. Im ok with startng amare if they play zone def

Nice thread.

This boards IQ on the Amare Stoudemire issue is absurdly low. He is a dominant offensive presence if given the opportunity. He's been hampered by injury and Carmelo dominating the ball, but he is still extremely skilled and one of the best big man scorers in the game.

His offense is still there. But his IQ on defense is what kills us. I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop with his help.

I've always been a supporter in Amar'e Stoudemire and would love for him to become our starting PF sooner rather than later. He's an offensive monster down low, and he can also hold his own off the glass (rebounds), it's just A.) His (man to man) defense is still pretty weak and what's hurting us the most isn't his play on the defensive end, but his contract. He's getting paid more than 7 million over the next three seasons when compared to LeBron James. That's not only on Amar'e, but our front office.

With all that said, we'll need Amar'e come postseason play especially against the likes of Chicago. Amar'e Stoudemire/Tyson Chandler can dominate Udonis Haslem/Chris Bosh down low at the PF/Center positions. Then we'll have both LeBron and Carmelo going to war at the SF position. We have a chance against Miami with a healthy/motivated Amar'e Stodemire.

Long story short, we need Amar'e moving forward, struggling defense or not; I just wish his contract situation was much different.

Is Woody still sniffing the 2010 Amare as the starting C? Why replace Tyson with Amare, and vice-versa. The tradeoffs cause more problems then they solve.
I cannot believe someone actually posted "melo and amare were playing great together"

Is the question now, can Tyson and Amare coexist?

I always love Amare coming here cant say that enough, he's been great last game
event he Raptors loss where Woodson foolishly didnt play Stout last 2m-4min of a 2pt winnable game (*shame on Mike!)

However I'd still say if
#1) Amare stock can rise a bit and
#2) Stout keeps healthy & finish the year

NY should not spare feelings, and try to get out from this contract unless NY can do a contract re-do

Agree with a poster whom says Amare isnt a problem OR the issue,
also agree he is a fab. offensive skill player WHOM Consistently will never EVER be that guy do depend on as legit #2 Or even #1

However Stout on knicks isnt a solution either !
NY aint winning title soon so ? why worry bout competing with Stout to you have a newer team in future

I'd try to free myself from Stout contract earliest possible and get return expiring contracts/picks draft to build Knicks
future on the youth taking over the NBA in recent yrs.

when time for bad teams like CAVs, NewOrleans, Wolves to become good NY Will be in position with younger guys to be able to
still be in playoffs & exceed that by possibly competing for nba title at that time

Yea, the rational thing to do would have been to admit a mistake, take the 80$ million hit which you were gonna drop anyway, and you build a better team,

one of the few teams in the league that can take that kind of hit and live another day, so it's the best decision, it's the best decision if you care about the product on the floor at all,
