Knicks · A few notes from last nights game (page 1)

dimicech @ 3/4/2013 1:16 PM
Kidd looked much better last night. What i don't understand is why he is playing 35 minutes and more minutes than Felton? I know Felton struggles defensively but is Kidd really that much better right now that he should be playing more minutes at 40 years old? also Prigioni 0 minutes? K-mart? JR needs a reality check from Woodson even though Woodson has a Woody for him. 3-14???? Cmon JR. That game shouldve been wrapped up when the knicks went up 15+ points. No excuse really.
jrodmc @ 3/4/2013 1:52 PM
Kidd rebounds. Kidd steals. Kidd logs more time with less TO's.
Someone spotted Prigs with an icepack on his back. Not a good sign.

JR is what he is. I can live with the good and the bad.

We don't need an excuse. They have Supeahman!

dimicech @ 3/4/2013 2:05 PM
I really like JR but when his shot is off he needs to become more of a facilitator. His game is really starting to become more well rounded as he is playing solid D and rebounding well. When that jump shot aint falling use your million inch vertical to get to the rim!!!!!!
fishmike @ 3/4/2013 2:10 PM
JR has totally regressed. He still plays hard but simply doesnt help the Knicks win games. He's a 40% shooter. That sucks. Its like the power hitter that bats 230. Sure the 30 HRs and 90 RBIs are nice but most of the time you need him he's swinging and missing.

He didnt so much regress- he just flipped a coin and bad JR Famine came up.

The loss wasn't devastating. Frustrating, yes, but it wasn't devastating- just needed one other player to show up or a few less turnovers and we would have won. Don't get why the forums gone in to meltdown.

whats devastating? Thinking you might be able to compete for a title or just a long playoff run at the start of the season only to watch the team play .500 the rest of the way? 30+ games now (over two months) the Knicks have been playing .500 ball.

I mean we have looked at various runs when MDA was here, Linsanity, etc... and folks have written off that off as small sample size. Seems like 18-5 is a smaller sample than 17-16 since.

A few things about the game that were a bit perplexing.

1. With Kidd and Felton (2 faclitators) in the game down the stretch, why is Melo and JR (2 finishers) bringing the ball up and initiating offense?
2. Stat needs to play down the stretch of games to give us an inside presence and an additional finisher. I understand Woodson is trying to limit Stats minutes, but he needs to do a better job of managing them better that he can finish games. Also, if he'e trying to save Stat for the playoffs, why is he trying to wear Melo out? Whats the point of him playing 40+ mins a night?
3. Woody seems content on a 9 man rotation. If thats the case, why play James White 9 token mins which takes away a slot from Camby and K Mart? Camby's 9-10 mins would be way more impactful in the game. Hell, Copeland would be more productive in 9-10 mins. This James White experiment is a a waste.

holfresh @ 3/4/2013 3:57 PM
Right now Melo is the only guy able to compete with the big three..A much as Melo gets knocked on this board, he is the only guy that has been battling these teams the last couple of years...As great as people say Bron is with Wade and Bosh at his side, give Melo a Chris Paul type guy, just one more player who can compete, and who is going to bet against the Knicks???

We should bring back Iverson to be that guy

it's funny how the knicks who beat the heat in 2 previous meetings are deemed failures because they lost yesterday.

When the playoffs roll around these same guys who are yapping will forget the reg season play. LOL

Exactly.

Not only are we 2-1 against Miami with a +/- differential of +36 but we've also competed against Miami during 3/3 matchups.

Houston: 0-2.
Denver: 0-2.

San Antonio: 0-1.
Thunder: 0-2.

Brooklyn: 0-3.

Or, are we not allowed to mention this...?

He's not trying limit Amare's minutes and he's not saving him for the playoffs; if he was then Woodson would be balancing Amare's minutes so he can finish games instead of pulling him with 5, 6, 8 minutes left in the game. Woodson isn't playing Amare because he either doesn't like him out there or he doesn't trust him out there. And, you can see and hear that this is starting to affect Amare so we might have a problem on our hands similar to last year's with Melo and MDA.

It's not about the last game it's about the last 33 games. We've been playing mediocre basketball since the middle of December and really several of us have seen problems with the team going back to the offseason.

dimicech @ 3/4/2013 6:24 PM
I wasn't so much bashing the team as i think they match up very well against the heat. Just commenting on JR falling in love with the three ball when hes off instead of taking it to the basket. Melo has been damn near unbelievable all year but needs to show a bit more tenacity in his transition defense. i.e. the alley oop to lebron when melo had about a 25 foot jump on him heading back tot he defensive end. All in all i think the knicks played a good ball game but need to close the game out when your up 15+ at any point in the game against any team.

I definitely agree with your first point. In regards to White starting I hope he is replaced by Martin soon. Yesterday certainly wasn't the game to see if Martin is ready to play at game speed but I think he should be the guy in there instead of White.

Nets saying the same about DWill...Dude you picked over Melo with the benefit of hindsight and still got it wrong...Doesn't slow the post count or personal conviction tho...

I believe I read/heard somewhere that Amare has a 30 minute limit with a goal of 25 mins or less per game at this point. It might have been Woodson that said it in an interview.

I did get that wrong and see? One can admit that they chose the wrong horse. Or one can be stubborn and make believe they are never wrong.

Still not sold that Melo is better than DWil though but time will tell. For now, I think that Melo is the better player but not by much.

Try it. It is really awesome ... go ahead
