Knicks · NO melo No Amare = Better defensive team (page 1)

knicks1248 @ 3/10/2013 12:48 AM
last 3 opponents have (okc 2nd highest scoring team) not seen a 100 points

I'm not that worried about those guys being out cause we just seem like a better defensive team.

Even when they both were out last season with the emergence of lin, we lock in defensively then and just move he ball much better.

Now that we got some pg's that can actually play, some guy's that can actually defend, and a few unselfish players. We can still stay the course.

I think were a Much Better team with Amare and Melo, But Woodson hasn't figured out out to get those 2 to play defense for any real stretch..

CrushAlot @ 3/10/2013 1:15 AM
I think Melo is a decent defender. Amare not so much. Amare blocks shots but he needs to be the 5 to be effective and that just doesn't work that well with the Knicks team.
MSG3 @ 3/10/2013 1:16 AM
It is beyond foolish to think we are better without Melo or Stat. Defense is effort. Coach has to demand it. Simple as that.

It's not that they are better without Melo or Stat it's that they try harder with out them for a few games and when they come back down to earth the need will be there. Melo should learn from this. Stop the ISO so much but it's not Melo's call it's Woody's call. I'm glad Copeland got a chance to play. I truly believe that he will be one of keys to winning in the playoffs. Woody better stop being so stubborn or he will be looking for another job next season.

I actually think amare is a better defender than melo when he is engaged. Melo is just not capable physically
Bonn1997 @ 3/10/2013 8:55 AM
I don't know what's worse - that Amare and Melo are out or that the team doesn't seem any worse with them out.
AnubisADL @ 3/10/2013 9:03 AM
Bullshit. Nobody takes us seriously with out Melo and Amare.
Bonn1997 @ 3/10/2013 9:05 AM
I'm talking about the on the court results, not the opinion poll of opponents' attitudes that you claim to have conducted.

Yeah, a 38-22 record is terrible, we've done really badly this year...

I think melo's biggets problem is his effort on the defensive end. The first month of the season he showed a lot of defensive intensity and we were a dominating team because of that. However the last few months that has gone away and thats a big reason why we struggled for a couple months. Look we all know melo is not a complete player like lebron but if he shows the type of defensice effort like he did in the beginning of the season im confident that we can win with him

We're an older version of the Atlanta Hawks from the past decade. Wonderful.

What is a good regular season for you? Having a good record is bad, having a mediocre record is bad, having a losing record is bad- what exactly do you want or expect this team to do in the regular season?

This is a garbage statement Bonn.

I have a hard time believing Melo and Amare haven't been told the exact same things the role players have been told when it comes how to play.

The only difference is in the paycheck difference between Amare , Melo vs the coach. Can he sit them when they don't play defense in games where they aren't buying in and the locker room remain the same ? By watching the team play without those two in the lineup the rest are buying into Woody's style of play.

A good regular season is one that precedes a championship run or helps a young team develop along a path to championship runs.
Bonn1997 @ 3/10/2013 12:38 PM
And it's hard to imagine either applying here. We're a .700 team when Kidd is on fire and everything else is going great. Otherwise, we're a .500 team.
knicks1248 @ 3/10/2013 12:45 PM
Melo will turn it up defensively in the playoffs, he'll play like he did in nov.

As much of a Iso play JR is, he just seems to play more team ball for longer stretches, rebounding, passing, and solid defense.

Woodsnon finally used some screens to get Novak open, when he gets going, were almost unbeatable

Teams can step it up in the playoffs- that's the key. That's what happened in 1997 and 1999. Some teams choke and some teams raise their game, we won't know until the playoffs begin. What's the point in criticizing this team based on the results of playoffs that haven't even happened yet?

GustavBahler @ 3/10/2013 1:30 PM
Think we're getting a little carried away here. Utah was coming off a road trip and pretty much rolled over after the first few minutes. As far as OKC, Stat played maybe his best game defensively this season. In the playoffs we're going to have to beat some grade A defenses if we want to advance. Defenses that would probably be able to shut this team down without someone like Melo who can score on pretty much anyone. I'm confident Melo will play good defense in the playoffs, he's shown he can D up. I know he doesn't want to hear about his D in the offseason.

How can you say that when in every game he is giving up his body driving against 4s and 5s getting knocked down. Melo is not afraid of contact and he surley can engage. if Melo is truly injured I hope he stay out the rest of the season so we can see what this team have. I will assure you that after a few games of loosing the team will fold.

knicks1248 @ 3/10/2013 6:34 PM
Once your a solid defensive team and unselfish, your going to be a solid offensive team no matter who's playing. You don't have to have a true super star during the regular season. Now come playoff time where Iso's win games in the 4th down the stretch, where every possesion is golden, thats when the big boys needed..

With out Melo and Amare we could be as solid as Denver, GS, Houston..
