Knicks · How does this get better next year? (page 2)

Whether you draft the next star with your lottery pick or trade for or sign one is fine. What is not okay is signing Amare to $100MIL CONTRACT UNINSURED and then trading half the team for a volume scorer. Which isnt bad but after signing Amare havingtwo maxed players does not allow you to build a proper team around Melo. Kidd rasheed camby prigs kmart are old. Shump is the only young piece and he is coming back from acl surgery.

agree 100+ guns

if youre going to build a team with the BIG 3 concept...u better make sure theyre GOOD and RELIABLE. amare is broken down and melo is a one dimensional scorer...tyson is a good defender...bostons big 3 was one dimensional as well but those pieces fit better

I am extremely excited about next season and beyond. This team has a cast of professionals. If the Knicks can get a guy like Doug McDermott or T.J. Price they'll be better and learn from guys who have had success in the league before

KG is one of the best multi dimensional players this game has ever seem. We have amare who doesnt defend and is always hurt. Melo who is a volume scorer 25+shots a game and tyson who has zero offensive skill. Pierce and allen shoot lights out and rondo is another great all around player

This doesn't get better until the next Commissioner steps in and knocks some sense into Dolan again, I don't know when that will be,

The only way it gets better in the short term is if lightning strikes again and a Jeremy Lin drops from the heavens, but then we would let him walk or trade him anyway

Now the Knicks look like they might be hedaed for trouble. Amare is most likely done for the season. Kidd Novak and Camby have all been disappointing and we are stuck with all for at least 2 more years. Our cap situation sucks. I mean i guess we have a 1st round pick but what are teh odds of getting a difference make in the middle to late first round

To be honest--we have no chance next year. This team is not as good as Knick teams from 1980's. Were stuck in mud. Chicago is going to get back Derrick Rose Indiana and Miami---were just playing for 4-8. Who really cares? Thats what a fan wants? Rinse repeat. Our big strategic moves are based on giving away draft picks for 39 year old guys--well do it again watch. In three years well be getting pick 1 in the draft and handing it over to Denver--another IT move for sure.

Will we be in first place after 82 games?

Denver gets our 2014 pick which might end up being a good pick. They also get to swap our 2016 pick. Remember when isiah thomas did that years ago and gave the bulls a ton of first round picks

lol @ "resourceful FA signing", you mean like Sheed and Camby and KT this year?

Great post. I would add that shump will be fully recovered from his injury. Also the Knicks got a small trade exception from the brewer trade. I am not sure if the Knicks have used up their 2mil that teams are allowed to spend in transactions. If they haven't grunwald might be able to add a pick. Hopefully some vets will consider signing on to play with melo and Tyson in NYC.

Just spoke with Grunwald. They are focused on high caliber top pick talent and an all star wing who can facilitate.

Knicks will trade shump and their pick for Brandon Roy and sign Greg oden. Say hello title.

Grunweld needs to find the right veteran min like signings, as their are MANY good players that are signed at that price with this new CBA
He needs to find the right combination of youth/vets in all positions, while not too many over the hill vets because Woodson will ALWAYS show his loyalty towards the vets

We honestly need a player like Wilson Chandler *the player I thought we would miss most long term in the Melo deal*, an athletic/versatile/skilled G/F that can play both OFF and DEF
Someone that has the ability to create for others and know's how to play off the ball

recent min like signings

Nate Robinson
CJ Watson
Patty Mills
Lucas III
Shaun Livingston
Patrick Beverley
AJ Price
Garrett Temple
E'Twaun Moore
Pargos

Webster
Matt Barnes
Keith Bogans
James Anderson
CJ Miles

Jermaine Oneal
Hidayhhi
Ryan Hollins
Thabeet
Chris Johnson

Blatche
Reggie Evans

========================================

1- We still have a 2nd round pick from Brewer Deal from OKC
2- 1st round pick this summer
3- Iman Shumpert *would like to keep him*
4- Tyson Chandler
5- 2-3m we are able to use for trades in the summer

Mini MLE acquistion

Look for UNDRAFTED ROOKIE'S

We could use Jarret Jack type G that was obtained for NOTHING but cap space last summer

How about sending Kidd back to Dallas with Novak for
Brandon Wright and Vince Carter with OKC's 2nd round pick?

I think if we make the correct moves, draft selections, possible trades, undrafted rookies, and the right VET MINIMUM players as steals, we could be greatly improved from this year

James Johnson could be a possible buy low target type player with good size/verstility to play Brewer's role
Hakeem Warrick and Josh McRoberts as well...

I wonder if Ben Udrich will be a vet minimum player and if he still will be a solid player because he is entering the 30+ age where physical abilities or lossed

We should look to add a G and a G/F like Sony Weems if he is available after Euroleague and Malcom Thomas for our season/playoffs this year with our injuries

Actually I'm referring to Lin Novak jr smith copeland etc. nice try.

With the new CBA, I'm not sure you can do what Miami or Boston did to build a contender anymore. With the way contracts are structured (easier to hit luxury tax, luxury tax more expensive), and how much more difficult it is to lure franchise FA's from other teams (derrick rose rule).

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBA_salary_...

Salary structure (this was mentioned already but bears repeating):

The maximum salary of a player with 6 or fewer years of experience is either $9,000,000 or 25% of the total salary cap (2010–11: $14,511,000), whichever is greater. For a player with 7–9 years of experience, the maximum is $11,000,000 or 30% of the cap (2010–11: $17,413,200), and for a player with 10+ years of experience, the maximum is $14,000,000 or 35% of the cap (2010–2011: $20,315,400).[9]

From http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/737279...

This rule benefits both the player and the team for which he plays. The player is eligible to earn a higher salary two years earlier than he would have under the previous rules. The team benefits because it has a better chance to lock-in its franchise player to a full-length extension. In 2006 LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade all signed shorter extensions that allowed them to become free agents after just three seasons -- which coincided with their eligibility to receive the higher maximum salary. The result was the biggest NBA story of the 2010-11 season, with James and Bosh using their free agency to join Wade on the Miami Heat.

Ironically, if the new CBA were in place earlier, the Knicks would probably be in better position.

Oh yea? Lin? You think miracles will fall from the sky again. Even if another miracle like Lin came to us, we would let him walk to sign one of melos friends

I thought they got a 2nd rd pick not exception

We should think about adding an OFFENSIVE assistant coach, maybe Brian Shaw or a Spur's assistant coach
Then follow up with a rebranding his identity cause Woody has no clue how to get create an offense and we have too many low IQ players
He mainly steals plays for offense from other coaches and with Dantoni and his DEFENSIVE *WITH SWITCHING* philosophy makes no sense/does not work...

We need STRUCTURE and CONSISTENCY with an upgrade of overall talent/IQ/DEF *ESPECIALLY @ G and athletic/big SF*
NOT HERO BALL, Offense should be initiated with either speed/penetration or POST PLAY with 3 players that compliment each other, the other 2 players PLAY OFF these 3 players and their abilities

Like football, we need our DEF to initiate our offense at times, but with the poor abilities to defend the PG position and our lack of size/athleticism/versatility/skills at the SF position is killing us

Felton cannot stay in front of PG's and cannot go through screens with his big bones, his lack of IQ is showing more as he is entering the age of 30 where physical abilities are going downhill
It was hidden more when he was in his physical prime, but age is catching up to him

We had JR Smith being guarded and defending Batumm, and there is a HUGE size disadvantage with Batumm's length/athleticsm/all round game/ and ability to shoot right over him for the 3point shot

It is simply no match in addition to whoever is defending Aldridge and this year's ROY
Mathewws and Hickson served as the complimentery players that played off those 3

BRIGGS wrote:If we had both Amare and Carmelo at there 100% last night--we still wouldve been down by 30. That team would destroy us every-time.

That is why I said trade Carmelo for two lottery picks to the Bobcats--its not just getting rid of Melo HUGE cap # but you can start picking your own players that you can put together just like Denver did. Denver kicked our arse--they waited us out and got what they wanted. Im sorry to anyone who believes but the honest reality is we wouldve been better off staying the course with picks and improvement. That way you build a contender for ten years not some starphucked one and done idiotic calculation thats happened here.

Just a couple of weeks ago, according to you we were a player away from seriously competing with the Heat to represent the East in the finals. Now, that same team is 30pts worse than a team thats not even in the playoffs in tn conference. SMH.....

Regarding our draft pick this year, I'm afraid they will trade it after we make the pick. With us being in "win now mode" (which is a joke), I can't see them keeping another young guy.
I do hope we keep it and draft a real PG with brains.

"Win now" has many meanings.

To Dolan, its "win above BKN", "Win to raise ticket prices", "Win to boost ratings", "Win to pay renovation of MSG"......
