Statistically almost all of our perimeter players shoot poorly when melo is in the line up..they actually showed these statistics last night.
We score more points with melo, but anything but efficiently.

You do realize it is impossible to score more points shooting less efficiently unless you have more opportunities? Which means the Knicks are winning the turnover battle or grabbing more rebounds when melo is on the floor. Your whole point can be turned on its head. Besides I'd like to see the shooting numbers for others with and without melo on the court, the numbers for Jr Brick alone don't cut it.

Im just telling what I saw flash across the screen during the game..

Im not anti melo, im anti melos game on most nights, clearly those #s are an indication of melo making no one better around him

Are those numbers when Melo doesn't play or when he is off the floor because I saw numbers that showed the opposite.

My bad you had the numbers posted here what about his ast/reb numbers?

That's a good way of putting it

I mean that there isn't a huge gap in talent as a scorer between he and Melo and I'm sure the Melo Sparta would disagree but numbers and eye test pass with flying colors.

Melo Sparta? Wtf is that, are you talking about those people that root for the Knicks? Being one of those I find it offensive to be lumped. To lump or not to lump, that is the question.

No otherwise you would be considered a Earl Dissenter going against your Knicks fandome since Earl is a Knick. A Melo Sparta is Melo first Knicks last.

Earl + push = Melo

UNDERSTOOD

THEN

GOOD!

I still don't get it, sorry. Anti-Melo Sparta I see a lot of examples of. Melo Sparta? Are you talking about NYKMental ?

So, yeah, you're probably right that he'd score 20 points if he started!

Wrong.

Wrong.

Has anyone considered he may have been feeling fatigue or hiding an injury?

67 points in two games is insane.

His defense and rebounding have been on point.

JR maximizes his gifts on a nightly basis, without any slipping back to relying on one aspect of his long range game(ie plays the right way) and he is... Kobe Bryant.

Bonn1997 wrote:He must have had a lot of fatigue in his 9 year career then!

Or too many coaches who were afraid to cuss at him and allow him to cuss back.

It takes a mentor/ disciplinarian/ mentalist/ ego massager/ no nonsense teacher to bring out the best in select few misunderstood people.

JR is a creative genius.

He is an artist.

Amare was never taught defense
JR was never taught shot selection
Melo was never taught how to pass
And Woodson was never taught offense

Correction

Amare is done. Thank you for staying ready Kenyon Martin.
JR is a game changer.
Melo wears rib pads to absorb vicious contact
Woodson is 62-32

BRIGGS wrote:he would be an all star an make 10mm a year. I think when people make mention to basketball IQ this is what they mean. If his shot selection and demeanor were in line with other heady players--he would be a force. Hes 6-6 225 with great athletic ability. He should use that body to drive to the basket more--create other opportunities for himself --and the other guys which in turn would help his FG%. This guy should be a 20-5-5 player IF he wanted to be. JR put down the twitter do some yoga get good sleep eat well and listen to the coach about shot selection.

I agree, its about when to apply your craft or change the tempo. JR is an incredible athlete who has elite physical ability to create and execute shots.

So did Michael Jordan, and young jordan was a phenom who could avg. 30 points. Then he learned how to win.

Sometimes less is more, and sometimes you have to know "When".

JR does not see the game, he reacts to it.

They are not insults, these are my observations. Its why he does not have a long term contract.

My guess is we keep him thru next year and when we have his bird rights give him a good offer.

He is has been a very important part of our game this season.

Superior athletic talent but limited capacity to think thru it.

He has the physical ability to make game ending shots. He is clutch that way, but limited in so many other aspects.

He is a taller version of Nate.

Why can't JR be a more versatile, gifted and defensively-rugged and raw version of jeremy lin?

"I can't speak for other coaches [who had Smith]. When I saw him last year, I liked what he brought to the table. It's my job as his coach to show him some love, put him in positions to be successful. But still coach him." - Mike Woodson

If the Beautiful Mind, Lin, dropped 67 points in two games (or displayed a crossover dribble with extra mustard) there would be a coronation.

No coronations may be scheduled until after a Knick is traded or signed by another, more youthful, properly built, properly run, better dressed, fiscally brilliant franchise. In a better conference or division, far far away...

Harden is a superstar because he shoots 2's at a 5% better clip than the shithole bum we have scoring 67 points in two games.

JR is Big Nate because he plays for this stupid, insipidly-owned and starphucqued cluster dump we are forced to post about.
When Nate continues to work out after a few years away and wins a POTM or POTW, he's the way we should have gone.

I will wait quietly with confetti for the next game Jeremy Dearest logs a triple double. Or DLee gets a double double and a deflection. Or Jamal Crawford hits the open man.

BEAT THE SCATS!

They have cap room however, they have a lot of player/team options/QO in FA's this summer which MOST are not currently counted against the 20m that they will have to spend
Like any team, I do not see them giving out long term contracts that are not worthy to limit the ability of the FA's in the 2015 FA class

Contracts of Player/Team options/Qualifying Offers for Spur's Roster
==============================================================================

Manu Ginobili
Tiago Splitter

Boris Diaw
Stephen Jackson

Patrick Mills
Gary Neal

Blaire

They do have the ability to S/T because they are under the "TAX PENALTY" and have Matt Bonner as an expiring to be able to use with most of their picks
I do not think they will keep all of these players as some are expendable, I think they will look to keep Splitter and Ginobili at the right price

I think JR has earned himself at the very least a full MLE deal, possibly more, I wouldn't say it is impossible for a team to offer him 8-10m per year but not at a 4 year deal, maybe 1-2 year's being more likely if so...

I would not mind trading Smith if we cannot match/offer a contract to keep Smith
However, we do not have this ability to participate in S&T's since we are over the tax paying salary
I am not sure if this is to just to acquire players or also unable to unload a player such as JR Smith to another team in addition to Kmart/Copeland which might have some interest/value like we used last summer to acquire Felton/Camby

If we could trade S&T Smith to Spur's I would love Manu which is unlikely, or for Mills/Stephen Jackson/Blaire to low/cap friendly contracts with a pick as well
But since I know we at least cannot receive players that are S&T, not of these are available, would it be worth it to take an expiring in Matt Bonner with a 1st and 2nd round pick?
I think Smith will get a lot of interest from team's this summer, not sure what what type of $$$, they will be willing to offer JR though
I can see teams that are contenders like Pacers, Bulls, Utah, OKC, Dallas?, Portland, Clippers, Suns *not contender though*
Some of these teams are over the tax threshold but still have the amnesty to work with

Under the new CBA, without the ability to participate in S&T's, it show's how big of a mistake we made by not keep Lin, since we cannot acquire talent through S&T's, and only have the vet min/lower MLE to work with
Forget what they make, as long as their contracts does not affect our 2015 FA class, and since we are built to win NOW mode with too many over the hill players, it just doesn't make sense
Everyone can bash what JR negatives along with Lin's "poison pill" but in the end, we need skilled players that vet min players/mini MLE players cannot provide us with

They have space Ginobli and Jackson are the bulk of it--25mm in expiring contracts. JR can simply replace Jackson salary slot of 10.4m. And if JR doesnt go there--some team IS going to pay JR 10mm per. No way JR does nOT play the way he is playing--iu.e attacking the basket--he may not put up 35 points 56% every night--but he can do 20--45% and thats 10mm$
