He won in college. He has won in the Olympics. His team is in first in the Atlantic and second in the East. All admireable accomplishments for a team that hasn't seen even a 43 win season in over a decade.

admirable accomplishments... and utterly irrelevant. plenty of good college players busted in the nba. surround melo with talent superior to himself like in the olympics and he'll do just fine.

this team gets bounced in the first or second round he'll have broken no new ground. after 10 games i expected ECF easy.

now, not so much.

So after 10 games its fine for you to expect them to make the ECF (which your posts during those 10 games contradicts) but when people said Melo was in the MVP race after 10 games they were idiots?

dk7th - you expected the entire season to be determined by just ten games? Really?

Cool.

Whatever happened to playin' out the entire schedule, one game at a time?

you set a standard you stick to that standard. why is that so hard to understand and who are you trying to defend here? they appeared to be a defense-first team, which was putatively an extension of the coach's will. they won convincingly against really good teams. i felt a glimmer of optimism and excitement. they then regressed for 60 games and now are trying to resuscitate themselves and establish an identity in time for the playoffs. they haven't quite gotten there.

to be fair they are showing signs of life. smith is getting to the line finally-- a few weeks after i called him soft and a coward. i'm glad someone on the knicks feels the same as i do on that front. melo is playing a little more defense vaguely reminiscent of the first ten games. martin has injected some life into this creaky squad. kidd is finally being allowed to play the right number of minutes a game which was the original intention and it is working out very well.

bottom line they just might be a top 6 team which is reason for some excitement. tonight is a huge litmus test.

jrodmc wrote:To the most respected and dearly beloved HolyMoobySaviour,

Please pay no attention to the Answer Man. We all know your worth, Melo. We (and I'm speaking for most of the Homer fan contingent) all know we'd rather have you with the ball in your warm hands at the end of the game after shooting 40% or even 30% then holding our breath hoping JR catches some rim with the last second step back. While you've been getting cold watching others shoot and miss.

We all know Johnny "Crisp" Novak is not to be trusted at big spots at this point in his fledgling career. Give the boy a few more seasons. Provided he doesn't get some stupidly ridiculous contract from Charlotte or the Jazz or some such thing.

We all know you've spent two very long seasons here trying things like trusting people like Fishlips. We understand, that at times, you see RayRay and no one can fault you for having Toney Douglas flashbacks.

Thankfully, there's really no one on this squad that could even bring a shuddering thought of Landry Fields to your mind's eye. KMart is ugly, but we all know, and you as well, that he's efficient. Efficency, however, is nice in accounting. You aren't an accountant, you are a scorer. Continue to be all that you can be. You am that you am!

Keep shooting Melo. You are the only constant starhope this AARP squad has, your short stints on the IR aside. We know this. You know this. The city knows this. And most importantly, Woody knows this.

We've seen you save the bacon plenty of times these past three seasons.

Excuse me now, while I go bump the YouTube Melo thread...

Respectfully yours,
Jrod "he with the three game thread winning streak" mc

I agree. And if Melo wasn't all that why does it take 3 players to guard him. Yes we can pass the ball more but when the dust settles who do you want to take the shot? Melo of course. He is a future hall of famer on the first ballet. I can't wait to see the Knicks stop the Heat.

I didn't really mind his numbers last night considering the Knicks straight up whipped the C's

But with arguably his deepest and most seasoned supporting cast this season in New York, he's ready to sacrifice the high scoring Anthony has always been known for.

"I don't want to try to put all that burden on myself to go out there and try to do everything, so I'm willing to make any sacrifice in my game regardless of what anybody else says," he told ESPNNewYork.com on Friday. "If my scoring goes from 27 to 23, I'm cool with that. Right now, I'm willing to make any sacrifice that I have to."

&

“For me personally, I’m in my 10th year,’’ Anthony said. “Everyone pretty much knows I can score the basketball. But for me to challenge myself, instill the trust into my teammates to give them that confidence when they do shoot the ball, to have that confidence that they can make it happen as well.

“I’m done trying to score 35, 40 points to win the basketball game. I don’t want that role anymore. I can do it. That’s what I do. But in order for this team to be successful, for guys we have right now, we need a more well-rounded team. If I have to sacrifice on the offensive end, I’m willing to do it. It’s easy for me to sit here and say it. But this year it’s going to be locking in and doing it as the leader of this team.’’

If fans didn't know any better and you look at these quotes from the Fat Chipmunk's mouth, you'd think he was Trolling this team...

Papabear Says

So he Lied Presidents lie I'll give him a pass as long as we win. Or maybe a win is not good enough? Would it be better if he passed the ball a lot more a got 10 assists a game and he takes only 15 shots a game and we loose. Would that make everyone happy? It seems winning is not good enough now. It's how you win

Litmus test?

It's just one game on an exhaustive schedule. Could care less about Memphis.

The key is to maintain the spicy tempo of last night on a back to back.

can we get another healthy center back in the mix?

LITMUS TEST PASSED!!! TAKE THAT TO THE BANK IN CYPRUS AND CASH IT!!!

he could have done better - for sure - but I'm not sure how much better the New York Knicks could have performed. And when the Knicks absolutely need a big game from Melo against Boston, he's good for 42, 17, 6, and 2.

Like I said, it could be better, but I think you are getting far too worked up about nothing. Sign me up for 4 of 40 if it means the Knicks win by 20.

wait, are you saying that we passed some arbitrary test and now the season means more than it did before?!?!

or did you mean that the Knicks went from 43-26 to 44-26?

I still don't understand this stance at all. I won't get into it, but y'all pretend like game 2, 2011 never happened. At the time that was the biggest basketball game the Knicks have had in ~decade

He's not LeBron or Durant but who gives a shit. The Knicks went from never making the playoffs to a shoe-in each year for the playoffs. And that doesn't matter? All right, you win, let's go back to Curry and Crawful

Game 2 happened and deserves just as much weight as each of the other 8 playoff games he's had here does.
More than half the teams make the playoffs. So, no, making the playoffs doesn't count as any kind of meaningful accomplishment. It just means you're not way below average.
I don't understand why you're setting the bar at simply being better than Isiah's teams.

you act as if we haven't made significant progress. All I'm asking is that everyone enjoy the ride - at least once - before you to take a wrecking ball to everything/spew vitriol. There's still plenty of road to haul but give me a legitimate strategy to beat Miami this year that's better than what we got, which is seeing what happens

I guess I digress... Rome was built in a day after all

One game at a time; BEAT THE BOBSCATS!

Seems like no one saying blow it up, but rather that Melo just doesn't seem to get it in terms of putting them over the top and it's frustrating to watch even when they win. He has stretches where he tries to facilitate, which he can do well (looked good w/ Amar'e before injury), and then quickly reverts back to his old self. Last night was a perfect example, as they go from swinging the ball all over the court in the first half getting up high % and open shots to playing that hero ball bs in the 2nd half allowing Memphis right back in the game.

Of course I'm gonna enjoy the ride, but his refusal adjust his game, like he's quoted saying, makes it tough to have confidence in this squad's legitmate chances against Miami in the playoffs. So I think the better strategy would be to pick his spots better of when to start chucking.

honestly I wouldn't worry about miami if I were the knicks.. that is thinking too far ahead.. teams like indy and chicago are just as dangerous as miami to the knicks..

lol you act like he's going to do this over the course of whole series....I have never seen a player live off 2-3 performances that never equaled a championship as long as Melo. Only in New York can such mere accomplishment be pulled off.
