Knicks · Carmelo Has Stopped Smiling (page 1)

misterearl @ 4/4/2013 8:01 AM
A game day bootleg, which is also a fable (in the same manner as the west coast fable)

Melo's high efficiency, volume scoring is crazy good, not crazy bad. Like Earl Smith, he is playing with rhythm. This is not to be confused with preconceived notions of what a "good" shot is. When you carry the burden of his prodigious talent, what defines a bad shot?

A double team? Nah.

A triple team? Maybe.

The point being, Carmelo has always played with extra force. That includes "forced" shots that ignore the obvious extra pass. A few games back he shot so much (and so poorly) The Answer Man himself exclaimed "Pass The Ball!"

The difference?

His demeanor and approach. Carmelo wears the blank facial expression of a businessman before he closes a major deal. Dispassionate. Focused on the prize. Little to no emotion. A professional
His closest shot against the Heat was from 15 feet. Let that sink in a moment. That is how special this young man is.

He can see a Larry O Brien Trophy. It will be fun to watch how he goes after it.

the last two games he was not double-teamed. what strategies will the celtics or bulls use to defend him?

SupremeCommander @ 4/4/2013 8:12 AM
What - someone posted something after (1) watching the game and (2) paying attention?!?

Melo got elbowed the very beginning of two games ago and he took shit seriously.

Whenever he looks like he wants to let his inner surrounding-inner-harbor out, he is great. Like Kobe said at the begiinning of this year, the two of them are very similar in producing with that mentality

Season will ride on JR since Amare likely wont be back til ECF vs Miami. Hopefully Felton and Shumpert play out of there minds in the playoffs as well. They are capable especially Felton. Need his penetration and finishing at the rim and hitting open jumpers.
Make no mistake Melo will be double and tripled team

The Answer Man Hates Math

Nalod wrote:Q. We have a Smile-to-Shot-to-%-win ratio yet?

A. Yes we do.

Poker-faced Carmelo Anthony (Boston, Miami, Atlanta) has shot 44-72 which is a ludicrous 61 per cent.

3-0.

More important, Mr. Anthony has taken some vicious hits and not flinched. The elbow to the jaw from Ivan Johnson was harder than Phil Chenier's elbow to Clyde's neck. The response was nearly identical. Carmelo winced, massaged his jaw, shook it of and proceeded to drop shot after shot. That is how a professional responds.

(Preemptive Disclaimer: anyone daring to point an accusatory finger at the Answer Man for comparing Carmelo Anthony's incomplete career to Walt Frazier's Hall of Fame' Top 50 of All Time is immediately enrolled in Mrs. Farbers second grade reading comprehension class)

You could look it up.

Hopefully he passes the ball (more) when he is double teamed. And hopefully JR keeps his new found driving approach going. Hopefully Shump keeps giving us something.
I do think we have a chance, very good chance, of beating Miami. I've been down a lot since the Lin thing but have to admit we have a chance right now.

Come on over to the dark side EMS! We doing our thing at the right time.

FYI, Lin is actually putting up worst numbers per game even with the increased playing time compared to last year's 35 game average.

Last year he put up 20 points, 8 assists per 36 min. Not many PGs in the history of the game have done that for a prolonged period. It was pretty obvious the numbers would not be that high.

Not sure what your point was. Guess it's backing up my point that Lin was a 25 game anomaly.

BTW, Gary Payton, Stephon Marbury, and CP3 have put up those type of numbers per 36 min throughout their career. It was pretty obvious that Lin was never going to be in that category of Point Guard.

You said "Lin is actually putting up worst numbers" this year. You make it sound like that's a failure rather than something that was inevitable and foreseen by most. I don't think anyone here said he was at the Payton or CP3 level. (We'll leave Marbury out of the discussion since he's in a category of his own!)

Make no mistake Melo will be double and tripled team

if we face the celtics their strategy is to force switches that will force melo to defend and try to get him into foul trouble. if he tries to fight over picks he will get into foul trouble as well.

i promise you that is what we will see. they'll likely try the same with smith.

they won't be much help if they're on the bench.

celtics will strategize this way because they want a series of attrition.

You shouldn't write in absolutes then. You sound ignorant when you do.

Maybe write "Miami Single covered him mostly, but when they did bring a double, Melo did the fadeway baseline jumper away from Battier and the help defender"

or

"When Atlanta finally decided to bring a double, the ball was out of Melo's hand via hockey assist or skip pass"

That's my point.

He is going for that TITLE, SCORING TITLE that is, as he should be as he has this opportunity to do so with the season coming to an end

but

Hope he remembers which title is more important, as he should also look to get the confidence of his team/players in rhytme for the play offs in addition to the play off seeding that we are fighting for since day 1 of this year

A. "A Picture's Meaning Can Express Ten Thousand Words."

Carmelo is playing basketball at an elite level. The best basketball of his career. No matter how you put a veg-o-matic to it, (slice and dice it) that is a beautiful thing.

Seriously.
