Knicks · Melo is now the NBA's leading scorer (page 2)

Come playoff time he needs to want do he is doing now, Win.

The insane standards don't mean a damn thing(3 more assists, 4 more Rebounds, A/T/Smile ratio Blah Blah).

He trust his team and the team trusts him. We don't need him on that wall, we WANT him on that wall.

Bonn1997 @ 4/9/2013 8:09 AM
He's having a very nice season in terms of scoring. What no one ever mentions though is that he takes far more shots a game than anyone else, including FOUR more shots a game than Durant. Most people focus solely on PPG.

Melo's having a very impressive season in terms of scoring, though. If you want to talk about a really impressive, historic achievement - Tyson is leading the league in both scoring efficiency and offensive rebounding.

Melo won't win the regular season MVP probably, but a NBA Finals MVP would be even sweeter.

He is having a nice year defending the post.
Also efficiency is beginning to look subjective to me but that's just me. Also the stats teams have are probably on another level than the simple box score stats that are available.
Bonn1997 @ 4/9/2013 10:00 AM
Efficiency is measured objectively. His offense for the first 60% of the season was a bit better. I think he's either still slightly injured or worn down. He's healthy enough to contribute though.

No it is not. Not when fouls are not called the same and roles are different. Players with kind whistle get help with there efficiency. Also, some players play to much for efficiency instead of team. Coach Brooks had to talk to his team about taking shots at the end of the quarter because some didn't want to harm their precious. That's a little different but..

You think your teams' leading scorer doesn't get enough foul calls. You have something in common with almost every fan of every team now.

Maybe but it is interesting the free throw rate of some and other high usage players.

Bonn1997 @ 4/9/2013 10:42 AM
Yeah, Melo is among the top in the league. He attacks the rim well but not as quickly and/or as forcefully as Lebron, Harden, and Durant do. It's not surprising they get fouled on 1 to 2 more possessions per game.

Just because it is not called doesn't mean it is not ad good. Also melo attacks more but still shoots less.

Bonn1997 @ 4/9/2013 11:02 AM
Shoots less than who? I don't think he shoots less than anyone.

Shoots more at the rim but has a lower ft rate than all of the above actually. I think Harden is about to set the record for most attempts for a guard. Last game was not an anomoly for Durant he flail his arms and get calls. Defenders make attempts to knock the ball out on post ups and the whistle blows. It is almost impossible for him to be inefficient. Same for Harden.

Where's that nba.com shot chart. I know he took far fewer shots at the rim this year than Lebron and somewhat fewer than Durant. I didn't look at Harden's #s.

Does the shot chart also reflect relative quickness and forcefulness? And this is not an attack, just asking.

Frankly, I'd rather be getting posterized at the rim by Durant than Melo; it would have to be much less painful.

After seeing Melo here for more than a season I really have an enhanced view of his worth to a team. Yes he's not an efficient scorer, but that isn't the whole story. What Melo is, is a CONSTANT threat in a way that not many players are. He's so aggressive offensively and such a mismatch for any defender that he literally warps the other teams defense. Teams know that Melo would probably go for 60 if they didn't pay as much attention as they do. So this extra attention does effect Melo's efficiency, but he can have a net positive effect when he's in the flow of the offense. Now with a really good supporting cast as we have now, one with players that really fit well around him, you can see how effective Melo can be.

How many times has Melo posterized someone?
Melo is stronger than Durant but he doesn't have the quickness or coordination to attack the rim like Durant does. He's still very good at it; just not at Durant's level.

Coordination? I would settle for he doesn't have the wing span which helps Durant lack of elevation. Durant is quicker though and also Melo unfortunately doesn't value dunks. There was an article not to long ago about his lower number in dunks. I think it really hurts the team and him at times. Although, the eye thinks there have been an uptick since the knee drain.

Also, you have to also account for the higher transition baskets. Most of Melo attempts at the rim are in half court settings

I think they have a Savvyiestness ratio, working on the ethical rankings too.

If you worried about that, you not talking basketball.

Exactly, it's why the dumbass Hawks players never win games (besides Wilkins, but he still ended up without a championship).

Melo has VERY quick feet which is why he gets to the rim with ease even though he is 6' 8". It's also why he get off the ground quickly for put backs. Melo just doesnt have insane hops or length like Durant or Lebron.
